Hi, Christina here before the episode starts, I do want to let everyone know we had some serious technical issues. We thought MJ was recording, She thought she was recording, but somehow both recordings failed. Her own local recording that's supposed to be the backup, and then the thing that we used to record remotely, neither one recorded her side of the conversation except for like the first three minutes, so unfortunately that is all you'll hear from MJ. She did re record her part of the story and then send it to me. It's not the same, but that way we'll at least have that, and then her reactions and conversation is. It's going to be missing from the episode, so hopefully it doesn't sound too weird. All right, on to the episode. Hi everyone, This is Christina, and this is MJ and Carmen, and this is another episode of a Spooky Tales podcast for all things spooky and true crime. That's right, we're doing both so I can make the episodes longer. Today, I oh, you have a haunted house place right, yes? And I have a true crime case out of Brazil. Some people might know it. I didn't know it. Carmen apparently knows it, so that's annoying. We'll see if I know it. I doubt it, though I told that's what I told Carmen. I was like, I don't think I'm j knows it. I'm also I'm sorry if I sound weird. My mouth is very dry, and I feel like I sound like an old lady talking like you sound normal to me. Okay, well, thank you, hopefully I keep sounding normal. Oh, before we start the episode, before we get to the listener story, I did want to announce that I finally figured out how to turn on free trials on Patreon, so I did that today. I turned on the free trial button. So you get a seven day trial if you want to try it out, and either you know, join, I guess join one of the trial ends. I was like, what am I trying to say? Yeah, so if you either you can either join when the trial ends, or you can just not whatever. Sometimes I like to start a free trial, listen to whatever I wanted to listen to, and then not do it, you know, which I'm fine with. It's fine because Carmen and I just posted it's like a short ten minute log of when we went to a hunted theater to go watch the first omen. It was a lot of fun. It was Yeah, although I hate the mics we use, I have to buy new ones, better ones. But yeah, it was fun. So that's up on Patreon available. Now what else is there? When you and I with our mom we went to go to a hunted tour at a pizza place. That video is up there with a lot of footage and pictures. Yeah, pictures and videos. I guess it's an encompass into footage. Sorry, I think my meds are wearing out anyway. Yeah, all those things are up if you want to do the trial. I finally ordered keychains, so members, if you join, you get an exclusive keychain that no one else has, hence exclusive and it's very cute. Okay, I'm done with my terrible announcements. This is why I need a script. Okay, okay, So listeners story that's what we're doing first, and Karen has that. Well, do you want to tell people how to send listeners story first? Usually you do that, Yes, thank you, Carmen, thank you welcome. Yes, if you want to send a story to us, you can email a spookyozat gmail dot com. You can dm us on any of our socials. You can submit it on Discord. There's a channel so that that's called submit a Scary Story. You can use the contact us form on our website. There's a lot of options. Best one is email, though, but I mean, whatever you want. You can call these Spooky Hotline. That number is in the show notes because I don't know it. And yeah, those are all the options, all right, Carmen, do you want to read it? Yes, let's get into it. So this is from a listener name unknown. It doesn't say on here, so okay, So this person says, hi, lady for starters. I just want to say that I love the podcast. I tune in every week. By the way, I love the pointless rants you guys go off on. Thank you. We all appreciate that. Anyways, I have a story that didn't happen to me, but happened to my aunt let's call her Sophia, and her daughter Liz and son Joe all fick names, by the way, And this happened to them in the old house that I grew up in. I also had experiences in that house as well as many of my other family members that live there, but this event was something else. So Basically, my family seems to die on important dates or birthdays. What Okay. For example, my grandmother died on Christmas Day, my grandfather died on the day his first great granddaughter was born. One of my uncles passed on New Years, another one of my uncles passed away on my aunt Sophia's birthday, and another uncle passed on her other daughter. It ain't as a birthday, damn. Oh my god. Okay, she was a kidding Yeah, Mark, your memory like Christmas is never going to be the same or you know, like someone's birthday. Yeah. Wow. Also, rest in peace to all your family, rip to all of them. So this story is about the time when my uncle passed on my aunt Sofia's birthday. A little background. My grandparents had a total of nine kids, and most of them ended up migrating to Chicago from Mexico. Anyways, when my uncle passed, he lived with his younger sister, Luce, who had found him early in the morning of Sofia's a birthday. Oh my god, I feel like I said that way too casually. I'm sorry. I didn't know what was coming. Of course, everyone including myself, ended up on my aunt Loose's apartment, just to be a family terreminius and tell stories about my uncle. Now, this was in December, so it got dark pretty quickly, but none of us wanted to leave, so we all stay together until pretty late, I want to say, until after midnight, which is when everyone started going home. Now, most of my family lived close by, like two apartment buildings down or like my mother and I who lived across the stree in Roger Parks, except for my aunt, who lived in Logan Square. These are neighborhoods in Chicago, Roger Parks. Roger's Park is closer to the lake while Logan Square is more in the middle. Good to know. I needed to know that I did because I was like, okay, I don't know where these places are, so that helps. People are like, is this irrelevant? I'm like no, every detail is necessary. Make it as long as possible. Yeah, we need to contextualize this. Give us all the background, all the history, all the changes. Okay, going on. Well, my aunt Sofia, got home pretty late and was getting ready to go to bed. Her son Joe, had been watching TV in the living room where my aunt had her bed, and she didn't mind sleeping with the TV on, but couldn't sleep because you know, her brother had just passed. Well, a few minutes into her laying down, my cousin Joe turned the TV down because he thought he heard a noise. They both sat there in silence for maybe a minute before they actually heard the sound that got my cousin to turn the TV down. It was a moaning sound, as if someone was crying downstairs. I forgot to mention that house was an apartment house which was owned by another aunt of mine named Maria, who was in Mexico at the time, and she lived on the first floor and my ant Sofia lived on the second floor. Okay, so no one's on the first floor, but crying was coming from the first floor, pointing that nobody was there. Yeah. Anyway, my an Sofia didn't believe in the paranormal, but she's also one brave bitch because she got up, walked out onto the small porch and looked down the spiral wooden stairs. Spiral stairs was just creepy, right, I feel like you step on it and it's just gonna break, you know. Yeah, So she looked down the spiral wooden stairs and what she saw made her run back inside. You see, when she turned on the light and looked, she said she saw a shadow figure almost like it was sitting down at the bottom of the stairs. Oh my god, I'm scared. The minute she looked down, she said, that thing got up and began ant to slowly walk up, which is when she ran inside and locked the door, praying with her hadess megago, Oh my god, I have anxiety now. Oh my god, I'm more scared. Oh my god. Okay, I read ahead. Oh my god, I think it's worse than this. Okay. So whatever had been outside sounded like it was crying, and it made it to the door because they both saw how the door knocked. Door. Oh my okay, I'm so scared right now, I'm sweating. Also, it's high in here. I haven't known the acy on yet. Okay. So the door rattled and pounding sounds could be heard as if someone was trying to come in. Now while this is happening to them, my cousin Liz had already gone to bed, but was woken up when she began hearing tapping on her bedroom door, which was down the hall from the living room where her mother and brother were currently praying away whatever was outside the front door. Liz had and closed her bedroom door completely in case her mother called out to her. The tapping sounds slowly turned into moaning sounds as well, and Liz was also scary and she began praying. Eventually, the sound stopped and Liz could hear her mother coming down the hall, which is when she ran out of her room and told her what had happened to her. And to her surprise, her mother and brother had just had their own experiences with this thing. So this was happening at the same time. Oh my god. Wow, Like it feels like it's multiple if it's happening at the same time, right, it was safe to say that they didn't sleep that night at all. Now, from what I can tell, my family believes in the paranormal because once they were told about the event, they began making their own speculations about what the shadow thing could be. They even went on to say that it might have been my grandma who was crying because her son had passed. Oh, oh my god, I just got chills. That makes it less scary and just sad, it does. Yeah, I guess I would think that she would be like not happy, but like her son is joining her now in the afterlife, you know, but maybe sad because he had more to do. I guess that's true too. Yeah, yeah, that's sad. I don't think it was my grandma, but I do believe that they saw something for sure, because the reason I don't think is the grandmas Like why would she be trying to force her way inside and like scaring them. That's why I don't think it was the grandma. Yeah, that's true. And then they said the household was already haunted, which is the next sentence, Like I said, before, this household haunted and everyone had lived there had their own experience. And then she says, sorry for the bad grammar and punctuations. I don't usually write, and not also I'm very high while writing this. Oh my god. And lastly she says, let me know if you guys want to know more, and you know we do always always. God, that was terrifying. That was so scary. Oh I could picture it all and I was like, oh my god. Yeah, oh m okay, well MJ, do you want to tell us your story now? I better not be as scary as this one. I can't handle it. This story is from twenty seventeen and takes place in southern Chile in Porto Monte. A family had called the police because of a haunted house problem that Gattabiintos the chile or the Chilean police reported that there were broken windows, flying furniture, a mattress on fire all when the house was empty, that Gottabinetro's rent out of the home. The captain leader made a statement on the incident and called it a diabolic presence. Locals called upon a priest to bless the house to get rid of the dark presence that inhabited the home. One of the children that lived inside the home went in with the priest and started recording. In the recording, right as the priest moved out of the way, furniture fell down where he was standing. Thankfully, the priest had dodged the objects. The priest is seen absolutely terrified. Unfortunately, the video links in the article are broken, so I looked for the video again and thankfully there are reposts and I linked them in the notes. Once the Karabinetos were outside, they declared that the home was haunted. They had also testified about the furniture falling knives, flying, furniture that would randomly combust on its own, windows would break on their own as well. Maria Urra, one of the owners, said that the furniture would randomly catch on fire at night for weeks. Both her and her husband were terrified of the home burning down when they were sleeping. This quote is from Auditi Central dot com and it says Second Corporal Boris Olivara Gonzalez of the sixth police station in Porto mont told reporters that he and his colleagues were questioning the owners inside the house when a trowel fell from the attic, like somebody had thrown it down. After checking the attic and confirming that it was empty, Gonzalez claims that he called out the quote unquote demon asking for it to leave. After receiving no response, he decided to go back, but on his way to the front door, he was struck from behind by a knife. It was super strange, Gonzales told reporters. Thankfully, I was wearing my bulletproof vest, so I suffered no serious injuries. This was the kind of thing you only see in horror movies, unexplainable in real life. At first, we couldn't believe it either. There were also reports of mood changes, electromagnetic disturbances, as well as physical symptoms such as limbs going numb. Priests tried to bless the home and remove whatever was there, but failed to do so. The family relocated for the time being that day. However, no update on if they ever moved back or solved the issue with their haunted home. They left forever. Wow, that's so creepy. And the fact that police are like, yeah, we saw it. It reminds me of that other case, the Vajekas case in Spain where police recalled because of the activity and they go in and they're like yeah, like, yes, it is haunted, Yes, domonic. We're not going back. No, no, no, I'm like, I didn't sign up for this. I'm sorry. Exorcist is not my job. Oh that's creepy. Okay, Well, I guess we'll do an ad break here. The best supporter that you can give us is just listening to our episodes here, So thank you for doing that. Okay, now we're back. Well, my case is from Brazil, so first let me just give you my tiny little summary before we get into the actual case. So, Flora de Lis dos Santos de Susa was known as the Mother of Brazil, known as a Pentecostal pastor, gospel singer, congresswoman. But then in November twenty twenty two, she was convicted of her husband's murder and she was sentenced found guilty. But let's go back to the beginning, Like, how did this religious supermom go from saintly to murderer? Ah, you thought you're gonna say, from saintly to deadly. You know what, from saintly to sinner. It would have been better. Oh yeah, the alliteration would have been fantastic. Let me redo this the patreon. The patreon members will get this redo, but not the the not the rest of the people. Okay, So, but let's go back to the beginning. How does a religious supermom go from to center. So dumb. No, that was a great idea, I think now it was. Okay, so let's yeah, let's start with her early life. Florida Lis dos Santos a Susa and I'm just gonna call her Florida the lest from after this. I just sometimes I like saying long names, Okay. She was born February fifth, nineteen sixty one. Her parents were Francisco dos Santos and Carmosina Mota dos Santos. She grew up in a pretty dangerous area of Brazil. It was a favela. And what if you want to explain what favelas are from what I know, it's like impoverished areas, almost like what projects would be here, but like worse. Yeah, good enough, okay. The hood tends to be where it's sectioned off. What's it called. There's a very specific word for it here, like red light into this area. Then this area doesn't get funds that other areas do, and so then the violence grows. It's poorer and poorer. They're very very dangerous areas. And so she grew up in a favela in Riodica, Nero, and this is a predominantly Afro Brazilian neighborhood. Her father was a pastor in the Pentecostal church. They were, and her family was pretty involved in the church too. It was the Assembly of God was the name of the church, and it's apparently one of the biggest Pentecostal churches worldwide. And so yeah, at the same time that the church is growing, there's also just like crimes and drug uses rising. This is like the nineteen sixties when she's a child. Well, yeah, she's born in sixty one, so and they were involved in the church. Her dad was like a very well known singer in the church. I think at one point he also becomes a pastor. Her mom runs a daycare from the house where they watched like a hundred kids in that neighborhood. But that also, I think shows just how densely populated these favelas are, where like, what do you mean one hundred kids, It's like they're available there to be watched. Like that's how crowdy these areas are. And tragically, at the age of fourteen, her father and brother die in a car accident, and this throws her and her mother even like deeper into the church. They find refuge in it. Pretty soon they open their own ministry. It's at a storefront that they rented out, and they quickly grow this loyal following. And it's mostly because of Flora de Lis. She was this very inspirational preacher and she would preach around the entire neighborhood. She was known for her singing voice. It was so good. That's mostly why they had this loyal following. And she preached everywhere, including very dangerous favelas, very late at night. She took pride in converting gang members to churchgoers, and this is how her life goes for a while, even into adulthood, she loves to talk about how she came from this very dangerous favela and she overcame it thanks to God. Can find clips of her talking about this on her Instagram and it's still up, yes, her Instagram. And I don't understand that much Portuguese, but I'm like, oh, I heard favela and I heard dangerous, so yeah, you can hear those words, and so now you know. Later in her adulthood, now we're like in the early nineteen nineties. She's the mother of three children, she's a teachers. Well, her and her mom still have her ministry. It's still going strong, stronger than ever. Also, no one knows what happened to the three the father of the three children. They just said he went up north. I don't know what that means. Usually means the US, doesn't it well, then in Brazil, so everything's north, that's true. Yeah, but yeah, he just left and never came back. And that was her first husband. But you know, this whole time that her ministry is still going, the neighborhood is getting worse. There's more drugs, more gangs, more murder. Florida de Lise and her congregation start preaching in the neighborhood on Friday now, even as late as midnight, just spreading the word of the Lord. There's a story that she likes to tell from this time where she went up to this dangerous favela a leader who wasn't going to let her into the neighborhood to preach, and she yelled at him that if if her God wanted to, he would turn this favela leader into a leper. And the leader was like, already fine, like you can come preach. I thought, I thought you were going to say that God would smite him. But I mean basically, yeah, and for people that don't know, like the way that these gang leaders are, like they're very organized. There was like a president of like the favela that's the gang leader. I don't know if you guys remember that Michael Jackson video where he's in Brazil. Yeah, yeah, okay, he had to get permission from the favela leader. The government was even going to help him to film this video, but he went and talked to the favela leader and he's like, oh, I love Michael Jackson, and they filmed the whole video there. Yeah. But yeah, that just goes to show how the favelas and the organizational like how it's all organized. So yeah, this favela leader led her into the neighborhood and yeah, I mean she was revered by the youth and she left like this lasting impression, especially when she did this like standing up to favella leaders. Mm hmm. I mean that's impressive. So she was seen as this hero and soon she started adopting favela these favella kids, and they were more like teens, not kids. And these were not formal adoptions at all. It was like just they started hanging out of her house and then they never left and then she's like, yeah, you guys are like my children now. But her house wasn't really like the safe haven that was said to be. It was just like a no rules like place anything goes kind of yeah, so of course, like they're gonna want to move with her, right, And I don't know if you'll go into it later, but she kind of made it out to seem that these were like street children with no parents, but they did have parents, and it's like you said, they just wanted to live with her because there was no rules there. Yes, And so in the beginning, it's her first, her own kids, her three biological children, and a group of five adopter teens. That's like the beginning group, right, but then it just like it grows. So among these five adopter teens is the man that would become her husband, so inappropriate, yeah, right, and their son do Camo. He was fifteen when he started coming around. How old was she at this point? She was in her thirties, so she swears that they didn't They weren't romantically involved until he was eighteen. So at whatever time he turned like let's say he was born at one pm to fifty nine. Nothing, no feelings, nothing now twelve pm. Love, Yes, dumb. I hate when people say that. Yeah, because it's not true, of course not. So there's no exact date. Oh sorry, I was almost gonna skip over this. He actually dated her daughter first, simone. Oh yeah, oh yeah, disgusting. So there's no exact day for when Florida Lisa and their son began dating or even just got married. We know just because from what they report later on, this marriage was either in nineteen ninety four or nineteen ninety eight. But yeah, there's no exact date, just he was over eighteen for sure. So around this time, somehow, for some reason, Florida Lease runs into this lady who says she can't take care of her newborn anymore. Like she just abandoned this newborn. It's behind a dumpster right now, she just abandoned it. And like Florida the les could take this baby in, she could save it, and she agrees. But then the lady like goes on and she says, how there's like fourteen babies that are survivors of a massacre and they're in the streets and if she could take them and saintly Flora de Lise agrees. So, now there's the eight kids that were already you know, in her home, and then fourteen, well fifteen, the baby that was in behind the dumpster, and then these fourteen from the massacre. Nobody even questions where these babies are from or anything like, and yeah, I mean they really could have been from a massacre because these things did happen in Brazil all that time. But yeah, now there's God, what is that? I'm but at math So fifteen, fifteen plus eight, twenty, yes, thank you, thank you. I'm Jay. So, yeah, we're in the In ninety four, there's twenty three kids in her home. They're all in her two bedroom apartment. That's where they live. And she gets so much attention for taking these street kids in. She's revered like, oh, this saintly woman, she's she's so I don't no kind and caring, and it gets the attention of the media, and you know, she starts talking to them, and there's a journalist that actually goes to the home and tours it, and then they were like, what the fuck cuz the house smelled like rotten fruit. She was giving them rotten food from food stands that they were going to throw away that's what she was feeding them. Oh yeah, And there was just the kids everywhere. They had nowhere to stay. I mean there's no order, there's no structure, there's no privacy, no space. Those babies that she got all in one crib to sleep, Oh my god, how did they survive that? How do they even fit? And so he's rightfully concerned. He goes to the police and he's like, this is child abuse and datament at the very least, I think they're the same thing. Right now, they're different kinds of abuse. Yes, thank you, Resident expert Kerman. Now she's getting like the wrong kind of attention for this, right, and police and authorities become aware of this, and so there's a judge that accuses her of harboring underage kids in her apartment. I mean that it's not wrong. He's kind of right, Okay. So yeah, Florida Lis. Instead of doing like the reasonable thing and like turning herself in or explaining the situation like oh no I took them in or whatever, No, she doesn't do that. She grabs all the children and they move to another favela like twenty five minutes away. Surely she had to rent a bus or something. I don't know. But when she moved them twenty five minutes away, they didn't have anywhere to go, and they were like all under this bus stop. And then ganging leaders went not to them and they're like, what are you doing here? Why are you in our hood? Right? She explains it herself away, and they're inspired by her story. They call up the favela president and he gives her an apartment to stay at. It's nice of them, I guess, right, But this whole time she's accused of stealing these kids. I mean, I believe it. Yeah, Like, and you didn't steal them, like you you you know their orphans? Yes, yeah, you would think so. Yeah. This whole time, there's like a warrant out for her rest basically, And so finally, once she set up in this new apartment, she's tired of hiding. She's gonna go and explain herself. So she goes to the Court of Justice. And this is like a few months after being on the run. And when she goes to the Court of Justice, somehow word got to the press. They all show up there too. It's this big like media circus and So she meets with the judge and someone from the un I don't know how why. I feel like she concocted all this on purpose to make herself seem like like credible, like she's saving the children to garner like positivity for herself, so that in case something went wrong then like it would cause outrage. Oh yeah, I don't doubt that for a second. So she meets with them, she makes her case, and the judge who was out to arrest her, the one who was like, you're harboring underage children, he was convinced. He sets up an organization to help her illegally adopt the children. No one person can adopt that much children, Like stop possible. It's not safe. It's not normal either. And if that was like an actual I don't know, like let's say in orphinished or something like that, the ratio of staff to children would be outrageous, Like come on, yeah it is. And then two men that were watching this all on the news unfold were so inspired. I thought you were gonna say, those are my children? You would, right. No, they give her house in the suburb in a suburb in and they put a they put furniture in it, they stalk it. They even put groceries in it. That's what she wants, attention, money, free stuff. She's a grifter. Yeah, and at this point, there's thirty seven kids in the home, not both of us gassing. What the fuck? Like stop? Twenty three was more than enough. Now it's almost forty. Oh my god, she stole them. Yeah. So yeah, at this point, and their son, who like is obviously now on adults younger than her obviously and her they set up a church in the garage of that house, and it's successful. She gets a bunch of people to join her church. She's an amazing pastor, and so is he. He starts preaching too. They're both just as grifting away. Yeah, and actually, I'm gonna send you guys a picture of them so you can see that they look like a power couple. You see them and you're like, oh wow. She also looks amazing for her age, because the picture that I'm sending you guys, she is like in late fifties. But you know what, it's the bangs that covering her wrinkles. Maybe she might not be true. That's why I wish I had straight hair and I could just do that. You know. Yeah, seriously, he actually does not look that much younger than No, I mean she does look good. No, she Wow, she looks good. No, wonder she's able to grift as much as she was. Yeah, i mean she's beautiful. It's that a pretty privilege. But yeah, they set up this chairch they're successful. She is again, I'm an amazing singer. So this time she releases a gospel album, but this one doesn't do well. Then in two thousand and two, Flora Lis was invited to a very famous Brazilian talk show. It's like the Oprah Show basically, like it's this huge talk show. Like most of her adopted kids now they're in their twenties, they're adults, and so they're all sitting with her in this show. She's being interviewed. The host of the show calls her the mother of Brazil because they're sharing her story about how she's adopted all these kids and they quote unquote save them. Right on top of that, the director of the network that this talk shows on is watching and he's so inspired he makes a movie on this. So he gives Florida Lese her own movie. She stars in it. But then there's actors for her all her children. Oh wow, but she is the star of this movie. And yeah, like the movie releases in two thousand and nine, there's the huge premiere Florida the Leise Walks the Red Carpet. But the movie's a flop for the director at least, But for Florida Lese, it brought her success because her church is flooded with new followers. Damn, just what she wants. And as you guys know, like the follow more followers for your church means more tidings, more money. So yeah, her church grew in insane a mount She's like a celebrity pastor. Now she gets a record deal. She releases five gospel albums that are all successful. She's on top of the world and they're still and her husband's son, son, husband, whatever you want to call him, he's now her manager too. So yeah, on top of running the church, he's also her manager. He's the man of the house. He controls everything. The kids need his permission just to set foot outside of the home. The money, he controls it. What she wears, he picks right all this, But I mean whatever, their partnership is working for them. They have seven churches now, she's making bank in this time. She's making like thirty K a month, which is like more than twenty times the average salary monthly salary Indrio the Canidro. And you know, you think like she'd finally be happy with it, but no, it's never Yeah, it's never enough. She starts having visions from God and we, oh, my God, not more visions, please please stop with the visions. And in these visions, she sees that she's a politician, She's meant to be a politician. And she goes from a one grift to the next grift to the next grift. Just a natural grifter. That's like what we were missing from this trifecta pastor supermom politician. So she does run for a local office twice and loses. I think at some point she holds one minor office before twenty eighteen. In twenty eighteen, a congressman named Alde de oli Veda. He's ready to move on from Congress. And this is their version of Congress. It has a different name. I'm just using Congress so that we all understand. So he is ready to not be a congressman. He's gonna run for Senate now, and so he gets Flora Lis to start campaigning because he wants her to take his current seat. They belong to the same party. He's also part owner of her gospel label. Seems a little unethical to me, but whatever. So yeah, her and Anderson they get to work and they campaign, and they campaign hard, and it works. At fifty seven, she wins with the landslide. Oh my god, and this new power and fame, it's it's still not enough for her. She starts feeling like Anderson is pointless now, like she's in the Senate. He's controlling me for what. I don't need him anymore, right, They start having marriage problems to try him and this is her version of all this. So to try and save their marriage, they go on this beach trip and they're seen by the paparazzi. They're having a great time, so great that they have sex on top of their car and public. I guess, I don't know my gone, I mean, like, how was she seen doing? Yeah, I guess she called the paps herself. Yeah something, Oh my god. And I don't know if she later told police this or if other people heard this, but that he covers her no no, no, and their song is heard yelling I love you while they're doing it on top of her car, and that just sounds so uncomfortable. Yeah. Man, Yeah, they're so happy during this trip, like the marriage fixed. You know, all they needed was to have sex on top of their car. Wow. Yeah, so I don't know if you're having manageables, maybe try that. Try it. Florida list approved. So yeah, they're happy, they're in love again. They head back to Rio the Carnado from the beach trip. They get back to their house around three three am. Florida Lis goes inside first. She's like, oh, I'm gonna check out all the children, So she rushes inside. He stays in the car, just like gathering some things. And then when she's inside the house, she hears you know, like multiple gang bane Oh my god. So she runs outside. The kids try to and I say kids, but again a lot of them are adults. Now actually by this point most of them are adults. So they're holding her back, like, no, you don't need to see how horrible this is. But yeah, Anderson was shot multiple times. I think thirty times. Oh my god, it's terrible. It's terrible. That is yeah, overkill much? Yeah, right, it almost isn't kind of like personal? Yeah, I would think like they were like really making sure he was dead. Yeah, this wasn't random, right, So he's rushed to the hospital, but he dies, he passes away there. He's forty two at this point. So the next morning it's all over the news because again they were this power duo, like this was gonna be wide white news, and it was. You know, people are like, who could have done this? And that's not the only question because then police are like, wait, this is kind of weird. We have more questions. Actually, please start asking more questions other than who could have done this? Because things started getting suspicious. All the gunshots, the majority of them were in his manhood area, so personal again, like you know, someone who knows him did it. The amount of gunshots or bullet wounds, and the area that it's in, Like yeah from criminal minds, I know, not criminal minds told me that this was a crime of passion and rage. Yes, yeah. Yeah. On top of that, they live on a dead end street and no one was seen entering the street after them, So what does that tell us the killer was already there? The call is coming from inside the home, yes, So nothing is adding up. Detectives start interviewing all the kids and I keep calling them kids because they are her as at the kids, but again they're adults, the adult children. Yeah, so they started writing gathering all the adult children. None of their stories add up. They're searching the home through the least is in the corner, sobbing the whole time. They were like, she's putting on a show. Yes, exactly, and that I learned from mind Hunter right now, Yeah, all these show is teaching us stuff. They're searching the home. They see that none of the cameras that are recording point to the house, and this is supposed to be like surveillance, and it's all pointed away from the home. Like, that's suspicious too, So the detective start running background checks on all the adult children and they get hits, including one of the youngest adult children. So eighteen year old Lucas. He there's a hit from the background show because he has a worn out for selling drugs. But on top of that, when they were reviewing footage of the night, he is seen on that night arriving in an uber, getting out and going inside the house and then coming back out. This is within fifteen minutes of the shooting. Of the shooting, so yeah, they're like, okay, we need to bring Lucas in. They bring him in. He starts saying that, oh, the reason he was there is because he sells drugs. He went there to just stash his drugs and then he left again to go to the club. But then investigators like they push him until he folds. So then police show up to the funeral, and the funeral is this huge spectacle. There's thousands and thousands of people there, and at the funeral they arrest Flavio. And Flavio is Flora Lisa's biological son. He's thirty eight and their son is only like four years older than him. Oh my god. And their son was only four years older than Flavio because he was forty two when he got killed. But police, yeah, they arrested Flavio at the funeral, and this is because Lucas when he folded, he incriminated Flabyo. He was like, it was Flabyo. Flabeo is the one who killed Anderson, not me. And then Flabo immediately folds. He's like, well I never liked that bitch. Anderson like, damn those I'm paraphrasing. Yeah, he says he never liked him. He never liked that he was a few years older than him. He was mad about that. So then police go, they search the house again and they find the gun above Flavio's bed, and the gun was matched to him. They knows his because they found something on it. And Carmen, you might already know what they found on the gun. Mjny guesses on what was found on the gun, like how they matched it to Flavio. I don't, I don't remember, you don't remember, Okay, Well they found his pubes on the gun. Is that what you were gonna get? Some je Well, it was it was, oh my god. Yeah, and you know, I imagine that they got there because you know how some people push. I mean, and I think the normal thing is to put the gun between your pants and your boxers, but always it he put it inside, but maybe keep Oh my god, but maybe you put it inside his boxer, like why, oh my god. Yeah, it's the way a way to lose the member. I was dying when I heard that. That's I can't forgot that. Yeah. So I mean, now there's there's no doubt. There's no doubt the gun is his, but that's not it. There's more to the story. Wagner, one of the oldest adopted kids, goes to the police. So he moved into Florida Lisa's house when he was twelve, and he I mean like rose up in the rings as one of her favorites. He was a pastor in the church. He was also in politics too, he was he held like a position in local government. So he told police that, uh, Anderson was actually in the hospital a lot leading up to the murder. He was sick all the time. He has stomach issues. Uh carmn. Yes, they're poisoning him too. Yes, yeah, he was sick all the time. And then he overheard Simonette, Florida LIS's daughter, the one that Anderson dated first. So he heard Simonette telling Florida Lise like, well, hey, you're a you're in the congress now, like we don't need Anderson anymore, right, Oh my god. He also overheard Florida li saying that that Anderson he wouldn't make it through the year. And on top of that, one of his adopted brothers told Wagner not to eat anything at the house because Florida les was poisoning Anderson. Oh my god. They didn't even like try to hide it or anything. No, no, So Wagner he did confront Florida Lis about hearing this, but then she was like, no, no, I'm just mixing his meds into his juice because he won't take them. And he believed her. But when he Wagner saw Flora de Lis at the funeral just pouring her eyes out crying, he was like, wait a minute, this is a performance. She doesn't she's not actually sad, she's acting. And that's what made him even more suspicious and why he went to the police. And so then he kind of revealed more about the home situation, and then we learned how truly horrible it was. So he told officers that the house one it was overcrowded, like obviously with that many kids, but there was kids sleeping on the floor, under the table, under beds just because there was no room. Like I said earlier, all the babies were in one cot scabies was running rampant through the house. My god, it's horrible and they're so hard to get rid of. It's disgusting. I'm gonna start scratching myself. It's disgusting. Every time there's a patient was like scabies bites. It's very rare that they're on the person. They're usually in the home. They don't like spread that easily unless you stay in that house. So people come in with like bites and then I get all traumatized and I start scratching myself. Then I have to look up, like the cleaning situation of the room after the person leaves, and I look it up and then I see a giant image and I'm like ugh, just because I have to see yeah there. I will not be putting a picture up because I hate looking at anybody. No scabies images. Okay, so yeah, scaby's bad. Kids were eating you know, bread for basically only carbs, bread, pasta, whatever was cheap when they weren't eating rotten fruit right, oh my god, or leftovers and even in the house. So younger kids had older kids assigned to them to take care of them because there was so many how fundy yeah right, very fundy coated. And they're religious even more fundy. Yeah, they're Evangelicals. So within the family and like all the children, there was like they were split into groups. So there was some that were loyal to and their sown and then others that were loyal to Flora Lise, and they knew who was in which group. Simonet, she spied on all the kids and reported to Flora Lise about what they did wrong because they were being like controlled, controlling, abusive environment, a high control group. Hmmm, like a cult, Oh my god, yeah, like a Yeah, she was brand like a cult. She even told them like at one point she was an angel who was being incarnated. She made herself like the leader of this cult right where they had to follow her, worship her. The dynamics were just like wrong in the group, you know, splitting siblings like that, pinning one against the other. This is like bad, bad things to do when raising children, but also just having fitty something children it's also bad. Yes. So once police were told all this history, they were like, all right, we need to question like each one. So all the siblings were interrogated separately, and the story had even more holes and they learn more at this point when they are searching the phone of these adult children, some of their searches say assassin, where to find assassin? How to poison someone without being caught? So the kids adopted you know, adult kids. They tried a poison and their son he doesn't die. Flora List tells them, well, you're gonna need to use a gun because you've tried everything else. Simonette, she is on record on the record saying that and their soe was bad at dying. Oh my god. She also tries to get an ex boyfriend of hers who was a police officer, to kill him, and he refused and they broke up. This is outrageous. Yeah. Then finally, when like other plans are failing, they get the youngest adopted kids, Lucas, the eighteen year old, to do the job. That's so sad. He's the most like the youngest, the most probably the easiest to manipulate, like vulnerable. Yeah, so he wasn't actually living with them at the time because he got tired of Anderson's lecture because he used drugs and Anderson didn't prove, so he wasn't even living there. They offered him one hundred and fifty dollars and Anderson's collection of wristwatches to kill him. Wow, And at first he said no, but then he agrees. So he is the one who ends up getting the gun. And what he was really dropping off was apparently the gun on that day. Wasn't stashing his drugs and leaving, he was giving them the gun. And Flavio he's the one who ends up using the gun in the end. Lucas is not the one who, oh okay, actually pulls the trigger. He just got the gun for them. Yeah, Flavio is the one who kills him. So Flabeo is the one who shot him thirty times, and yeah, I mean it checks out. He didn't like him. He shot him in the genitals, like, oh, that's for all the times you did my mom, like you know, oh, my god. Probably, and then after the shooting, all the siblings work together to make it seem like a random robbery. So they were all in on it. And so you know, investigators, they need more evidence because Florida Lise is a congress woman, and it's very hard to arrest them. And it makes sense, like if you know the history of Brazil, you know there was a lot of dictatorships. Dictatorships come with repressive things like arresting your political opponents. Yeah, no evidence, right, just you know, arresting people left and right. And so now they it's difficult to arrest someone that's in Congress. So they need like a solid, solid, solid case, So they need more evidence. They're trying to locate Florida Lise and Anderson's phone to find evidence, and they can't. But eventually they guess the password of Anderson's cloud logging info like they guess it right, and then this is where they found they find more information. Six of the adopted adult children are arrested or for all colluding in this, and so eventually they find out that two weeks before Flora Lis was elected, she told one of the sons that she needed to find a way out because she could not separate. It would be too scandalous for her to divorce and their son not if she got away with it, which was her plan. They didn't even plan well at all. So it's not well executed. Yeah, not in this in this case, how they you know how they say there's too many cooks in the kitchen. Yeah, yeah, that's what was happening here. So this was what they needed. They needed her saying this. They needed to know the motive, and now she was on record saying this, so they take her into custody. Once she's arrested, more family members of the adopted adult children. They come forward and they said, we've been searching for our kids, like we've been trying to contact them. I I was waiting for this. Wow. Yeah. So apparently like once they stayed there, they were convinced by her that they didn't need their old families. She was, you know, an angel reincarnated, just like a high control group. Yeah, like isolating them, keeping them away from their family. Yeah. On top of that, they were put through these purification rituals or they were locked in rooms for twenty one days. So yeah, like a coulp Yeah, straight up. Uh huh. And at least one of the adult adopted children told police that had a sexual relationship with Florida Lese. So it's like now too known. Yeah, and their son and now this other one, but you know Florida Lese. She insisted that she was innocent. She had written this letter that in fall of twenty twenty, claiming that Wagner was the one who told Luca to get the gun and Lucas did it right, Lucas was the one who shot, who fired, That's what her letter said. Then she had one of the other adopted children take this letter to Lucas and telling him he needs to take the fall for this, that she would love him forever if he took the fall for this. Lucas didn't do it. Instead, he told police officers about the letter and how she wanted him to rewrite this letter to make it seem like it was coming from him, and then they added forgery to her charges. She doesn't racking them up. Yeah, So now Flabeo's arrested, Lucas gets more time added on because he's in jail during this, and then there's an impeachment vote because if she can get impeached, then she can be tried actually go through the court system. So first she needs to be impeached. At her impeachment trial, she begs them not to impeach her, that she's innocent, but she does get impeached. There were only seven votes against it, and I'm like seven, that's like, that's went too many. Yeah, what do you mean? Were le seven her adopted children that made it into Congress that are part of Congress? No right? So she posts a videos for her Instagram later that day after the impeachment saying that she's going to get arrested for something that she didn't do. That to pray for her. She's been forsaken, but she's arrested a little bit after this video honestly, yeah, actually, and her much shrug goes viral. She really thought she was going to get away with this. She still claims innocence. She has eight hundred and ten thousand followers on Instagram. Oh my god, her handle is floor de lis Cantra. If anyone wants to look up her Instagram, someone's running the account. I don't know if it's her, someone for her, but Florida. Yeah. Oh during the trial and all that, she was still active. Yeah. Her thing says my mother cut sinko echos, right, that's what it says. That's what that means. Let me see see translation to Cibo's right. Okay, what's right? Mother of fifty five kids? Mm hmm yeah, ridiculous, Like, no, you're not you stole these kids. But yeah, eight hundred ten already said that number. Yeah. Five of her adopted kids testified against her. In the trial. She was found guilty. She received a fifty year sentence. Somehow, during her trial she already had a new boyfriend and he was sobbing. I don't know how. Wow, No, Like, when does she find times that day. Well, she delegated the killing to other people, so she had time. You're right, you're right. But yeah, he was sobbing when he heard her sentence. Simone, her daughter, was found guilty and sentenced for thirty one years for you know, helping in the murder planning. By the end of all this, she had a total of fifty five adopted and biological children, so fifty five children, and at her trial she said the following, if I leave here today, I'll leave with my head held high because I know I'm indicent, and I know everyone will know I'm or and everyone will know I'm innocent. My innocence will be proven. I keep fighting to guarantee my freedom, the freedom of my children, and mind family, which is also being wronged with everything that is happening, My family is suffered. My family is being judged. Yeah at court. Yeah, at court as you and they should, for plotting and executing the murder of a man. Oh my god. Yeah. So yeah, in the end, five kids were in jail. I know Flavio, Luca Si them, but I don't know about the other. I don't know who the other two are. I can find their names, but yeah, that is the case of Flora de Lis, the Mother of Brazil terrible fucking crazy. I got worse and worse. Yeah, yeah, I really did. I was like, oh, this story is a little lighter when I was like first like reading about it. Then I was like, oh, god, no, this is just as bad. I'm glad I didn't actually say that in the episode. I have a little lighter true crime story for everyone. It's definitely not no, it's it's dark, and it gets worse. Child abuse, child neglect, child fealing, endangerment, murder, poisoning, cold yeah really yeah, grins terres everything. Yeah. So, anyway, I guess we have reached the end of the episode. Does anyone have spooky recommendations? I have one? Oh do tell Yeah? Well, I forgot to mention it last time we recorded, but I wanted to recommend the movie that me and you watched. What is it Life After Bed or something like that. Oh yeah, so is her name? Is it Aubrey or Audrey? It's Aubrey, right, Aubrey Plasta yeah, Tomrey Yeah, Okay, anyway, she's in it. Spencer from Krinel Mines is in it, and it's like a zombie movie. But it's it's funny. Yeah, it's different. It does have some like two thousand, two thousand humor a little outdated. Yeah, but it's really like kind of concentrated in that one scene for the most part, so it's not too bad. But honestly, like, I liked it, Like my favorite thing is horror comedies, which it is, and like the sillier the dumber, the better for me. And it was hilarious. Yeah, it was pretty silly, yeah, but I loved it. I loved it. It was like a good silly yeah. Yeah. Okay, Well my speaky recommendation will be again. Murders the new scary effem show. Go check it out. I am also doing some writing research and writing for it. Edwin is the host. We love Edwin here. Listen to him and Michelle a few episodes ago.
