The Case of Joaquin Velazquez and the Boy With Horns

The Case of Joaquin Velazquez and the Boy With Horns

In 1938, in Cuidad Mexico, the newspaper published a story about young Joaquin Velazquez. A boy who was said to move objects with his mind. His name was Joaquin Velazquez and neighbors, his own mom, feared his alleged telekinetic powers. During the Mexican radio show, La Mano Peluda, host Juan Ramon Saenz answers a strange phone, a father calling about his son, who talks about his bff Satan and has a pair of horns on his head. Cristina and MJ share these stories, have some laughs, share their spooky recommendations, but first, MJ reads a listener story.

[00:00:00] Hi everyone, this is Cristina. And this is MJ. Oh my god it's been so long, it's so nice to hear your voice. Yes, it's been a long while. I was uploading the episode that I uploaded last week, the Patreon episode and I was

[00:00:22] like oh my god I haven't heard MJ's voice in so long. Forever, yeah. It's funny because in that episode we were like oh my god we haven't recorded in so long because we've been sick. So I'm like damn how often are we getting sick?

[00:00:35] We're getting sick a lot. I'm laugh crying, that's not a real laugh, it's like a painful laugh. Also I'm warning everyone, my kids are here, you're gonna hear them because I have no childcare so yeah. Mom life. Yeah, yeah. Thank you to everyone.

[00:00:54] I guess I'm the one who reads all the messages like Instagram messages but so many people were sending us home remedies and stuff. I didn't even tell you any of them because I forgot. I was already okay by that time, it was you who were sick now.

[00:01:06] That's true I was sick because you were sick first and then yeah then I was sick and I didn't feel bad, I just didn't have a voice and I couldn't talk. Terrible. Yeah, so it was super annoying and then I just had family visiting so that's why

[00:01:19] we haven't recorded in two weeks. Now I have a cough but it's not like a sick cough, it's an allergy cough so because I forgot to take my allergy medicine this morning.

[00:01:32] That'll do it, that'll do it and yes MJ has the listener story if you have a story for us that you want to share email is pukitosa at gmail.com, you can also submit it on

[00:01:41] our Discord, we've got a few there and another option is to send it on Patreon, I had some people do that so that's super cool. Nice. Speaking of Patreon, we're like right at almost at 40, 39 people so if anyone wants to help,

[00:01:58] at the time of recording we could always lose a person which is fine, people will have things going on or they don't like us anymore, both are fine. Or you know you just you're broken, don't want to or can't support us that way so that's fine too.

[00:02:10] But yeah people come and go but at the time of recording we're almost at 40, if anyone is like I could spare $3 a month and just help us hit 40, that'd be cool. That would be awesome.

[00:02:22] Anyway yeah if you want to read the listener story I'll just react to it because they're crying over here. Alright, awesome. This says, hola mi gente de espuguitel, I was working my way through the episodes when I heard the episode of El Chamuco.

[00:02:38] It reminded me of the story mi abuelita told me just a couple years ago. Mi abuelita Julia is a devout old school Catholic. She has been widowed for several decades and has never remarried.

[00:02:50] When I would visit her in Mexico she would always wear a black veil when we went to the town church. I love that, like that would be me if I was ever a widow like wear black and a veil all the time. Yeah, yeah same.

[00:03:02] All the time no matter what like it could be like a wedding I'd be with a black fit. Yeah that's gonna be my mood. The town when she lives in is small and everyone knows my abuelita.

[00:03:13] She makes and sells hot chocolate tablets and a fruit wine that everyone swears can cure anything. One day she was walking to a very early morning mass and she said that she felt like someone was following her but every time she turned around there was no one there.

[00:03:29] She walked through the gates of the huge church yard which in the town was also the socalo and went inside to do church stuff. After mass mi abuelita was one of the last few people to leave the church.

[00:03:43] As an active penitence mi abuelita always walked out of the church with her head down after each service and as she was doing this she saw white boots step in front of her

[00:03:53] and she heard a man's voice say something like doña Julia I think you're cute and we should go to la cantina. I'm totally paraphrasing that part because I can't remember exactly what she said that man said.

[00:04:05] Cantina in Mexico especially in small towns and in mi abuelita's heyday were bars intended for men only where they would drink and play cards if there were women there it was because there were ladies of the night so to speak.

[00:04:18] So it can go without saying that my abuelita was deeply offended. Oh see like side eye I knew it side eye. Mi abuelita broke her penitence rule and she looked at to see a man in a pristine white

[00:04:33] charrosude everything was a crisp bright white from his head to his boots. She couldn't see his face it was all in darkness because the sun was behind him. Oh that's eerie.

[00:04:44] Mi abuelita Julia is a small lady but she said she made herself as big as she could by standing straight and putting all her face in diosito santo y la virgencita and she said perdĂłn pero soy viuda no ando de perra como gente indeciente baese con eso.

[00:05:02] Excuse me but I am a widow I don't go whoring around with indecent people you can leave with that stuff. At that moment she says she heard el padre say donya Julia you're all right which made

[00:05:13] her turn around and then she looked back to see the charro blanco he was gone she couldn't see him walk walking away or anything he was just gone. Oh my god what? That's weird later that same night she had an extremely vivid dream that she was drinking

[00:05:29] hot chocolate with Pedro Infante playing the role of an archangel she doesn't remember the name he gave her but she believes it was San Miguel Archangel her favorite and he said

[00:05:40] that el charro de blanco was satanas and that if she had gone with him he would have dragged her to hell to be one of his many brides. To this day mi abuelita is still baffled not by the charro blanco or the vivid dream

[00:05:52] but by the fact that someone could disappear so easily when it took at least 50-100 steps to get from any one side to the other of the church yard. Anyway that's my story I heard that you're both sick drink plenty of té de limón y híjine

[00:06:07] hĂbre con miel and it kept better soon. Maritza. Yes that was one of the remedies which I think a lot of us know already but I will welcome all those messages anyway. Yeah I don't like the flavor of lemon and honey.

[00:06:23] It's so good for when your throat is like that though. I don't like it. Oh I think it's delicious. I think it's sickly sweet. Oh I get what you're saying. Like so sweet that it's almost gives you the same reaction of something sour.

[00:06:36] Yes I get what you're saying yeah I usually do just honey though. In my descalo frĂo I get like goose bumps whenever I have to drink I'm like oh god no.

[00:06:46] Wow no why was the why was that the nuns wearing white is my question he should be wearing like red or black right? But you know what's weird I often see him in a lot of the times dressed in white which is weird. Really?

[00:07:01] Yes I feel like I've only heard or seen depictions of him wearing black or red. Which is often but I've seen the white outfit when it comes to this thing because he's like trying to disguise himself right? Okay that makes sense.

[00:07:13] He's trying to make himself like not look like the evil guy that he is so he wears white to like see more approachable because I mean if I guess if you saw him. You know what you're right.

[00:07:23] If you saw him wearing black you'd be like hmm what is this goth man doing in Mexico? Like this is off. But if you're wearing all white you're like who me? I can't be evil I'm wearing white.

[00:07:34] Look at me and pristine what does it what is it called a cleanliness is next to godliness? Some show like that right? Is that a real thing? Yeah like in order to be like a like a proper Christian you have to be clean like be tidy and stuff.

[00:07:51] Oh okay yeah I didn't know that again though I'm not a real Christian so that's why I didn't know that. Yeah. Well yeah thank you was it Maritza who sent that in? Yes Maritza. Yeah thank you so much what a creepy story.

[00:08:09] Do you have notes today MJ or no? I do have notes today actually. So this next story is another from La Mano Peluda it's called El Niño con Cuernos which translates to the boy with horns. It's a short story.

[00:08:24] Now before you start this reminds me we forgot to even say but we were looking for kid stories today. Yes. So that's our topic and yeah okay sorry go on. Because I like getting creeped out by creepy kids. Who doesn't love a creepy kid?

[00:08:42] Well me but I love the stories. We love the stories so we don't want the kids to say that. I don't like when my own kids are being creepy and scare me god I don't mind.

[00:08:51] But like my daughter not the other day but like about a month or two ago she was like you see that bush that's where the little people go and I was like okay we're not talking about

[00:09:00] Duendes or fairies right now okay you just walk faster let's get away from the thing. Yeah my gosh he's being creepy arena. Love it you gotta leave that in. I will. Okay Juan Ramon signs begins this episode with him explaining that Roberto is a two year old

[00:09:22] with two horns on his forehead. His father knocks on Roberto's door asking him to come talk on the phone and his father begins begging and pleading to talk to Juan Ramon on the phone and Roberto is like very reluctant

[00:09:35] to talk which fair he's like they say that he's two years old and he's being asked to like talk to a stranger which is you know the kid talks really well for a two year old so I was like are you sure he's two? Are you sure?

[00:09:48] I mean I've heard some kids I have heard some kids that's who like sentences and I'm like wow not mine. Yeah not mine either so I'm like um and Juan Ramon greets him by saying hola Roberto

[00:10:01] and Roberto is like begins screaming que quieres que quieres which translates to what do you want what do you want and you know Juan Ramon again greets him hi Roberto and Roberto then begins this aggressive whisper and replies hi and I don't understand why people like I

[00:10:19] mean I get it it's a little kid but it always like it's a thing for it's like a pet peeve it's a rational pet peeve like why are you whispering and being like aggressive like yelling almost.

[00:10:32] When Ramon asks him how are you and he replies I'm good apparently Roberto was asleep and he was woken up so he could talk to Ramon I'd be mad too though like that's fair.

[00:10:44] Yeah to be woken up to talk to someone that I don't know because it's show brand pretty late it was like well it used to be midnight and they stopped doing that and then it got switched to like nine or something like that.

[00:10:56] Yeah but it's still late for like a two year old. Yeah. Juan Ramon asks him if he liked the radio and Roberto says no and then Juan Ramon goes on to ask him what games he likes to play and in creepy child form Roberto says killing.

[00:11:12] Oh my god. Just remember that. What? And Juan Ramon asked him to clarify and he's like what do you mean kill and Roberto is like answering there is like some static in the reply but then you know there's like interference and static in his reply zone.

[00:11:28] Juan Ramon asks him again and Roberto says he pretends to kill his toys. Wow. Wow. No. Yeah so red flag number one. Well actually number two because he has horns. This is red flag number two.

[00:11:45] Juan Ramon asked anything else you like playing with and Roberto says with Satan us. No what the fuck. I'd be like I don't know how the dad just stands there and just like hey talk to it I would oh my god no.

[00:12:00] Oh my god my child is now repeating what I just said. Fudge the goals. Fudge pops. Oh no. He goes on to say that he plays with Satan often and Juan Ramon asked him if Satan

[00:12:16] asked is there with him now and he says no not right now and he goes on to explain that every night Satan asked plays with him. This is all horrifying. Yeah and Juan Ramon asks is there anything else he likes to play and Roberto says he

[00:12:31] likes to play with guns. He's then asked how he met Satan us and Roberto says in his dreams. It's revealed that Satan us told him what his name was in his dreams and sometimes Roberto

[00:12:44] likes playing with him but other times he does not and that they play killing people. Oh my god what the fuck. Like a two year old saying this. Oh my god I couldn't wow.

[00:12:55] Roberto is asked when he leaves the boy is unable to answer he doesn't know as there is no quote unquote time. Juan Ramon asked him if there is anything else he likes to play with and he replies

[00:13:07] that yes there's another man whose name he doesn't know because he's never told him and he goes on to say that he's a more no which means dark skinned man and that's all that he knows about this other guy that likes playing with him. Hmm not as well.

[00:13:25] I would put a nanny cam in his room for sure. Roberto is asked if he's angry to which he replies yes because he was asleep playing with Satan us and they were in the middle of killing someone.

[00:13:38] What they were I was like OK now first of all that dad needs to like I don't know drop this kid off somewhere but yeah it's time to I don't know maybe give him away I'm just kidding I would never but if this was my kid maybe I

[00:13:56] would I don't know. I would not be like I'm not like the person to actually take care of a child like that I'd be too scared of him like I'm not a good parental figure with this.

[00:14:08] He goes on to say he doesn't like TV and Juan Ramon asked him if he knows about God Roberto then says no he doesn't want to know about him and that God scares him. The call is cut because Roberto is done talking and he wants to leave

[00:14:23] and go play with Satan us. Oh my God God I don't know him. I don't know him he scares me. Pulled a Mario carry. I don't know her. That is a creepy kid. Wow yeah. And they were saying that like I was like when I was reading

[00:14:46] I went on looking on TikTok for like this audio and YouTube and then like on Spotify because they have that the reuploads of it. And right in the comments on YouTube and TikTok I saw that there's a video

[00:15:00] of this kid and now I went to look for this video I could not find it. So if any of our listeners know where to find the video of the kid with the horns like send it to us because I tried and when you look up

[00:15:17] this case in particular it's a lot of like artwork to represent like a demon child you know what I mean but no real pictures. No real pictures though they say like Juan Ramon Signs later meets the kid

[00:15:29] or gets like pictures of the kid there's basically like video circulating but I couldn't find it. I want to I'm going to look but yeah if anyone just has it I mean that'd be and even exist like people could be lying if it exists. That's true.

[00:15:45] The worst is people on TikTok like oh they know what something is or like oh just go watch the thing but like don't show you where it's at. And it's like OK well I can't find it like what do you mean? Link me people.

[00:15:56] Yeah seriously tag me like come on make this easier for me please. Yeah but I was like oh that's creepy. I don't know that kid has issues. Yeah honestly creepy at any age worst that it's two though. Mm-hmm.

[00:16:14] All right so yes it is my turn I have a story. I am sharing the story of Joaquin Velazquez. I had never heard this but I came across a Twitter thread. I don't know if anyone listens to Guest Pookie podcast

[00:16:30] but they retweeted this and that's how I saw this thread. But it was a thread about a kid with a Mexican kid with telekinetic powers. So immediately when I saw it I was like we have to cover this. Mm-hmm.

[00:16:44] Yeah I think it's safe to say that we all love movies and shows where kids or people in general have powers like you know X-Men or the original X-Men Matilda. Matilda. Who didn't love Matilda? I was obsessed with that book. I watched the new Matilda musical.

[00:17:02] How is it? It's good. I liked it. My ass didn't know it was a Matilda musical and someone put Missy Elliott's music behind the video of them dancing and I was like damn this new Missy Elliott video like this is this is Tye. This is really good.

[00:17:19] These kids they're getting it. They're getting down and then I was like oh shit this is a musical. What why are they going so hard on a musical? And then I was like a Matilda musical. This is wild. The movie is pretty good. I really enjoyed it.

[00:17:33] It was it was but I have seen the edits or it's like they put different music. I will be sending you the Missy Elliott one just so you could see how good it is. Like you would like if you saw it without knowing you'd be like damn

[00:17:46] Missy Elliott's making music videos with dancing kids again. Love it. She needs to again. Yeah, those videos are classic. Yeah, because the last music video from her I seen was her and Lizzo. I can't remember the song. Yes, I also can't remember the song.

[00:18:01] But I know what you're talking about. But I mean Missy Elliott videos were like the best link. Yeah, that was art. She's her music start to like. Welcome to our little haunted break. We want to give a special shout out to the Espukis who support us on Patreon

[00:18:22] and especially our newest members. Unfortunately this week I did run out of time to redo our Patron shout outs because we've had people come and go, which is completely OK. But I need to redo it because it's just changed in the last since the last time

[00:18:37] I gave shout outs. So we'll do that next episode and every episode we just know that we very much appreciate everyone that has at one point joined the patron. Even if you've left everyone who's still there, it means the world to us that you support us on there.

[00:18:51] So thank you from the bottom of our Spooky Hearts. If you want to join the Patreon, go ahead and head on over to patreon.com slash Espukitels. You'll gain access to bonus episodes. We try to do two a month, but always at least one.

[00:19:19] But don't worry if you cannot support us monetarily, then you are not missing out on anything. The best support that you can give us is just listening to our episodes here. So thank you for doing that. OK, anyway, back to the topic that I have not even started.

[00:19:36] So yeah, but what if you saw this in real life? Like I don't know if I would want to be friends with him or if I would be scared. Honestly, though, I would be friend to anyone with powers because then I'd be

[00:19:49] like, hey, grab me that thing that I don't want to get up and grab. And I still feel like it would be easier. Like something gets stuck and you feel like, dude, just come on, just yank it. You're not going to hurt yourself because you're so far away.

[00:20:02] Right. It would be useful. I would want to be little Joaquin Velazquez's friend, to be honest. But in 1938 in Ciudad Mexico, newspapers published a story about young Joaquin Velazquez, a boy who was said to move objects with his mind. So his parents were Constantina and Valdomero Velazquez.

[00:20:22] And they obviously they loved their son. But when they began to notice things happening around him, they were fearful, especially Constantina, because she was like, this is the work of the devil. Every time like nobody should be able to do this. Yeah.

[00:20:40] This is funny because like the last kid was the friend of the devil. So yeah. So sorry, this is like off topic. But have you seen a Tik Tok? It was like, I think it was going around last summer maybe, but it was a target.

[00:20:52] There was this guy who was holding like one of the pride shirt, pride shirts and he kept asking people passing by like, oh, do you support this? Do you support? Oh, yeah. I know what she's going to say.

[00:21:03] There's an employee passing by and he's like, do you support Satan? She was like, yeah. And he thought she was going to say no. He like paused and he's like, what? Oh, yeah. I said, do you support this? And she was like, yeah. Oh, these support states.

[00:21:14] She's like, yeah, Satan pride, all of it. I support all of it. Yeah, I remember that. That shows hilarious. So yeah, that just made me think of this. Anyway, back to this. So weird things happened around Joaquin.

[00:21:29] Flight bulbs turned off by themselves or not turned off like exploded. You know, like light bulbs exploding. There's is there like a better term for that? Shattered? Yeah, I have no idea. But I know what you're what you mean. English is hard. Words are hard. Yeah.

[00:21:45] So yeah, light bulbs went and sofas would move on their own. Brocks would levitate around Joaquin. I tried my best to find his age. I will be posting pictures of him. So I'm guessing like this began when he was a tween, maybe. And now he's like maybe 13, 14.

[00:22:05] He doesn't look super old, but he doesn't look tiny. So I'm like, any anywhere between 12 and 14 is my guess. Yeah, he looks like he's around like 14, 13. OK, OK. So I don't think I'm very that off. No. That's good to know then. So at the point that the newspapers

[00:22:23] like released the story about him, his powers, if you that's what you want to call them or these like abilities incidents, they were occurring for about a year. And the family had seeked help, the help of an attorney and the Archbishop because they don't know what's going on.

[00:22:38] They're like, we're asking whoever we can like to help us. And the Archbishop then introduced them to father Carlos Maria de Heredia. Heredia, which one? Heredia has to be. I have no idea. I don't know. I don't know. I've never heard this last time.

[00:22:54] I still get confused by Spanish accents. There's no accent in here, so I think it's Heredia. Anyway, a respected priest who was apparently friends with Harry Houdini. OK, like who would have thought? Random. Passive. Yeah, super random. He was also very well respected among the scientific community

[00:23:15] because he did a lot of work in debunking mediums and charlatans. If you want to, I love that word charlatans. Yeah, whenever I get to use it, like I'm like, yes, an excuse to use charlatan. Yeah, because I don't use it that much.

[00:23:31] So he was well known and that's why they contacted him. Like maybe he could figure out what was going on. So the idea went to the Velazquez home where he himself witnessed Joaquin Velazquez moving objects with his mind and the idea was floored when he saw this.

[00:23:49] And when he saw this happen, he had like a shocked look on his face. And when Joaquin's mom, Constantine, saw this shocked look on this like father's face, she was sobbing. Oh, my God. Because she was like, oh, this is the work of the devil.

[00:24:05] This fatherly figure, not fatherly figure, this religious person is here now and they're shocked. But then the idea calmed her down. He was like, no, that's not scared. We just need to figure out what's going on. So he had Joaquin's parents Joaquin and his parents meet with Dr.

[00:24:22] Ankel Kevedo Mendi Sabah, a well known and reputable doctor. And when Joaquin entered the exam room, any chairs that were there and like tools, they were all flying around. Oh, it almost seems like you couldn't control it. Right.

[00:24:38] And the doctor was like, yeah, something's wrong, but I'm not going to find out. And he dismissed Joaquin as a patient. What the hell? I thought the Hippocratic oath counted with everybody. Oh, you know what? I skipped. Oh, my God.

[00:24:56] I in true like ADHD fashion, I skipped an entire section of my notes. OK, reread it again. Let me go back up a little bit. We're going to back up a little bit here. I'm not reading all this. We're just going to know I'm not doing that.

[00:25:11] I'm just reading the part. I was going to say, I'll just act shocked. Oh, the whole the rest of it. Yeah. No, we're going to we're just going to go back a little bit and then return to where I was. So when I was saying little things,

[00:25:22] my bulbs turned a shatter, so this would move and like rocks would levitate around him. Apparently maybe like little things happened when he was younger, but it wasn't really until he was in really in his tweens

[00:25:34] when like the brain is wild and hormones and like emotions are crazy. That's when it became more, more noticeable. So Constantina was like at the store and she would come back and find shattered glass everywhere. And she was like, oh, it's just someone trying to break in

[00:25:54] or like a kid passed by and threw a rock. But it was happening so often, but she didn't think that Joaquin was accidentally doing it with his mind. Like that didn't come to anyone's mind. Until a neighbor was arguing with Joaquin's mom,

[00:26:08] Constantina in front of Joaquin and during the argument, like a rain of rocks just hit her roof and things inside her house started flying everywhere and falling. And it was only her house. And the neighbor blamed Joaquin. She was like, he's attacking me.

[00:26:26] And then she went to the police and tried to report them. But there was no crime because by the time the police arrived, like there was just rocks everywhere, but there was no way to prove like that Joaquin was throwing them or anything.

[00:26:39] Or let alone moving them with his mind. Like so that that's what made them seek the help of an attorney and the Archbishop, as I said earlier. So now we're going to fast forward a little bit in my notes. Back to where I was.

[00:26:56] So, yes, that doctor dismissed Joaquin as a patient. And so after this happened, this physical at the doctors worried about Joaquin and his alleged telekinetic powers spread. And a journalist named Miguel Hill heard about him and he wanted to meet with the Velazquez family

[00:27:17] and they were reluctant to meet with him. They didn't want news of Joaquin to go national because like they didn't know what would happen. Would he be persecuted? Would they be attacked? Like, you know, they had no way of knowing.

[00:27:32] But eventually they did agree to meet with Miguel Hill. And so he arrived to interview Joaquin and he wanted to, you know, witness his abilities and attempt to photograph the evidence of his powers. And so he was asking Joaquin questions and Joaquin was very reserved with his answers.

[00:27:53] He just wrote about their exchange of him asking questions. So Miguel Hill would ask Joaquin, oh, Âżsientes algo cuando las piedras se mueven? Cuando se caen? Like, do you feel anything when the rocks fall? And Joaquin was just like, no. Like, no. And like typical between teen answers

[00:28:15] which is like everything's one word. Then Miguel Hill asks, OK, but like, do you think about the rocks moving and then they fall? And Joaquin was just like, ah, this is sometimes that's his only answer. The angst is real.

[00:28:32] Then Joaquin did tell Miguel, like he has no idea how any of this happens. He doesn't know how his powers work. And the only thing he did, like, no, for sure, for certain is that when that neighbor was arguing with his mom,

[00:28:49] he thought about the rocks hitting her or hitting her house. He just thought about that. And that's when everything happened, when the rocks fell on her roof and all that. She was flying around her house. Reporters wanted to photograph Joaquin doing this,

[00:29:05] like they wanted evidence and a photographer set up things in the kitchen, like things that could fall or whatever, that he could move with his mind. And while he was setting all that up, there was like the sound of rocks falling on the roof.

[00:29:19] And then everyone turned around and like Joaquin is standing there. There's a giant rock next to the reporter, Miguel Hill. There was no way that Joaquin could have moved this rock by himself. It was too heavy. And so everyone just came to the conclusion

[00:29:35] that he made rocks fall again from somewhere. Like imagine like the power of like he's like these rocks are coming from somewhere. They're like around the ground. They're not inside the house, obviously. They're like manifesting? Not manifesting. Like maybe he's like pulling them from other places.

[00:29:50] Like from far away, he's like making them move. Oh, OK. Then fall on the house, you know? So he I think he would be like, I don't know, a lot of X men in a fight, you know? Yeah, he was like at the very telekinetic

[00:30:06] but also transportable abilities. Right. Yeah. Or I don't know, because maybe there's I mean this Mexico and there's probably rocks all over, you know? But if they're like like in my Alita's like house in front of the road, if you're walking,

[00:30:20] there's just like rocks embedded into the ground. It's not pavement. It's all like dirt and like pebbles almost. Like is he making those move? Like what's going on? That's that has to be super strong because those are like stuck. Yeah. Yeah. So everyone came to the conclusion.

[00:30:38] Everyone that was there that yeah, Joaquin made all these rocks move. And before everyone left, Joaquin was sure to like give them some more proof of his powers. And he made the hat off of one of the reporters fly away. And everyone saw this happen.

[00:30:55] And in the final article that Miguel, he wrote about this. He wrote that like none of this is false. We all witness this with our own eyes. And he ended his story on Joaquin by saying that if Joaquin was alive during the times of the Spanish Inquisition,

[00:31:13] he would have been detained, like never seen again. Because this would be seen as like something scary. Something I don't know. Witchcraft. Something not. Yeah, witchcraft, not holy, you know, of of the devil himself. All those words. And after the article was published,

[00:31:33] strangers began arriving at the Velazquez home asking for help. People wanted Joaquin to help them win the lottery. Like he's not psychic. He can just move objects. What the hell? This the next one's funnier. People would ask him for help to make their unfaithful husbands return home.

[00:31:56] That's like so random. Let me just ask this kid to bring back my. Because he's going to he's going to use his telekinetic powers to drag this man home. I just imagine like so much like flying across like the state of Mexico,

[00:32:11] like this man is somewhere like there in Ciudad Mexico. This man is like, I don't know, in Jalisco and he's just like dragging him all the way. Flying in the air like. And goes everybody's going to know. Everybody's going to know what you're in the air. Unfaithful. Chater.

[00:32:29] Right. Joaquin, of course, could not do any of those things. But due to all the attention that he was receiving, the Academy of National Medicine of Mexico learned about Joaquin and his alleged powers. And like among them, they were all arguing like this can't be possible.

[00:32:46] This is absurd. Like this kid is obviously a hoax, but they never went to like examine him or check on him. When they're just like, they were just like scammer. This is all a lie, but then boozled. Yeah. Miguel Heel and then his photographer.

[00:33:06] Wow, they're both named Miguel. Miguel Casas, what? Casa Soya. Casa Soya, I guess. Miguel Casasoya, they returned to the house with more people. Oh my God. The poor family. Right. So that they could see for themselves what was happening when they got there.

[00:33:26] Miguel Heel was like, how's it going, Joaquin? And Hakklin's like, not much. Like, what's up with you? As if they just didn't have like everyone trying to visit them and like the Academy of Medicine calling them liars and shit. He's just like, nah, nothing's the same.

[00:33:43] It's cool. Cool. Yeah. We're good. He's like, all right, well, how do you feel? And like Joaquin just struggling, you know, it's fine. Same old. Same old. This kid's energy. Love it. You know, F. Yeah. So Miguel Heel, his photographer and all the people that went with them,

[00:34:04] they wanted to see Joaquin do his, you know, his thing, I guess. So they to make sure that he wasn't like using his hands. Obviously you would see someone like reaching for something and then throwing

[00:34:14] that thing, right? But to make sure he wasn't using his hands, they like tied it, tied his hands together. He was sitting down just so everyone could have a good look. And then they were this. So they tied his hands and like put him

[00:34:29] on a table, like he was sitting in a chair. There's a table in front of him and they had him try and move the couch without touching it, right? So the photographer stood next to the table and everyone's like facing the couch.

[00:34:44] And instead of moving the couch, he lifted, I guess levitated is like the better word, but he levitated the whole table. But then. And he was not moving his hands. There's nothing under the table. And I guess the pictures are out there somewhere.

[00:35:04] They're not, they weren't not on the article that I use. And that's like all the information I could find of him. Like there was nothing else. What happened to him after? And I'm curious. That's what I want to know.

[00:35:14] I was trying to find more information like what became of him. Nothing. And I will be posting a picture here. Let me send this link to you so you can see. So there's a picture of him lifting this table and all the people standing next to him.

[00:35:31] And you can see that there's nothing near him. It's nice that it's like digitized, like I love that. Yeah, I love that they're slowly digitizing all old articles because they had some wild ones back in the day. Yeah, they were more. They believed things easier.

[00:35:51] Yeah, I believe things easily now. So if you go, it starts like at the page of him holding a rock or something. If you go to like forty, forty two slash forty three, you can see the picture of the table and everyone standing next to him. Oh, yeah.

[00:36:10] If they have, you know, those like wires, people use that are nearly invisible to like lifting stuff for like effects and shit. If they have that, I mean, they're really good. And everyone has to be in on the same like the joke. Correct. Yeah, yes, exactly.

[00:36:24] Wonder what happened to him? Yeah, I don't know. I could not find all I could find is this that I just sent you this. And then the other website, I've used them before for other sources, but Mexico, this conocido punto, something,

[00:36:39] they had this whole article or blog, whatever paper. Yeah, yeah. Anyway, written on him and their source is this paper that I just sent you. Oh, and then after that, it's just all repeated stuff. So there's like no information. That's crazy. Yeah.

[00:36:59] And this is all taking place kind of like May 1938. So after that, there's like nothing, nothing about him. Yeah, that's so weird. As long as it like goes like covered up or something. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what became of him. I tried looking it up.

[00:37:15] All I found was other people with the same name, a doctor. Not him. I could not find anything on him. So yeah, I don't know. Maybe he lost his powers. I don't know. Who knows? I remember back a few years ago, like well, almost like a decade ago,

[00:37:34] I would say there was like a conspiracy theory going on about like almost exact same thing as this kid, except it happened in China. And then like, yes, they were like taken away by the government. Yes, there's also a story about a kid in Russia with telekinetic powers

[00:37:52] who was also disappeared or some shit like. I heard the one in China escaped, but I don't know. But yeah, I remember that was like going around. That was like the big conspiracy back in like 2013 that they had a whole program of these

[00:38:10] specially gifted people and one of them got away. Maybe he was there then. Or the United States, who's an area 51? Yeah, which more probably. More probable. What time was this? Either one. What year? This was 1938. I was before like all that stuff.

[00:38:29] I don't know. It was weird though. I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. I wish I knew what became of him. I used to be a journal journalist to go back and check up on the family. Yes, somebody else.

[00:38:41] Please check on this for us because we don't have time. I did my best googling and that's all I have. We only are our limits are not like his. Horses are limited to Google. Yes, exactly. No. We can't drag unfaithful husbands back to their homes.

[00:39:04] You seen our telekinetic powers because we don't have any. But yeah, yeah, those are our stories. Do you have any spooky recommendations in all this time that we have not chatted? We've been messaging. Yeah, no, I like I hardly like been doing anything. What movie did I watch?

[00:39:24] I did watch The Crafts, though. Oh, nice. I love that movie. Classic. Yeah, it's good. It's good. I should rewatch it. I haven't seen it. I think we talked about this either messaging or last time we were recorded, but like I for some reason

[00:39:38] will rewatch the same shows again and again. But the time commitment of a movie, I'm just like, no, I don't have time for that. And yeah, yeah, the same. I haven't had like anything. I've rewatched a lot of stuff like I'm I rewatch the X files.

[00:39:53] But you guys know, I'm always going to recommend the X files no matter what because I'm always rewatching it. Like once I finish it, I'll rewatch it again. It's a classic for sure. Yeah, as I must watch and I just actually say I'm saying that

[00:40:06] and I just watched it for the first time after you told me about it. Like like two years ago or some shit. I still haven't watched like the whole thing because it's like eight seasons and then like two movies. So I haven't watched like the whole thing.

[00:40:20] I'm like, I haven't watched the two newer seasons or the one newer season. But yeah. Yeah, I'm on like season three. So yeah, I'm like I'm almost there, but it's a lot. And then there's sometimes I'm like, I want to rewatch like season one,

[00:40:34] not like season eight. Yeah. Well, I do have a spooky recommendation. It's like two in one really. So while my mom and Carmen, they while they were visiting me, one of the things we love doing is looking for either true crime shows or horror movies to watch together.

[00:40:53] And when we can't find one, we just watched Nailed it Mexico. Oh, my God, I didn't even know they had one. Yeah, it's so funny. And we just love seeing the attempts at these cakes. A mess. But when we do find a horror movie, that's that's fun too.

[00:41:09] So we watched Mas Negro que la noche and it came out in 1975. We watched it because my mom told me about it like a while back that she was like, I watched this as a kid and it really scared me, especially because my theo, one of her brothers

[00:41:25] then put like a flashlight under his face and like a blanket and scared them all right after watching this. And they were by themselves. My those were not with them. And I mean, it came out in 1975. So my mom was like probably eight, eight, nine at most.

[00:41:42] And for its time, it and it's still I think it still holds up really well. But basically these group of roommates, they they're modern modern women living together. They're single, except for one of them.

[00:41:55] One of them is engaged, but one of them inherits a house from their aunt. And there's like one stipulation that she takes care of the cat named Bekker. And now I want a cat just to name it Bekker. And and then just like she goes crazy after that

[00:42:12] because they do not respect this one stipulation like one of the girls is like, oh, I hate cats. And it's like, please, you're living in this house for free. And one of the rules like I love cats who has the cat allergy, not me.

[00:42:26] Yeah, seriously, like I was traumatized and everything. I love this cat. A cat a cat scratched me when I was like eight. And then I like hated cats forever until like a couple years ago, maybe even with that,

[00:42:39] I would have been like, oh, cat me and this cat, we are best friends because you're living there for free. These girls know like fuck that cat, Bekker, fuck him. That's a we hate Bekker. Like really, it's like unwarranted for Bekker.

[00:42:56] And yeah, and then there's there's payback to be had. So yeah, it's a good movie. It's fun. And it's on shutter. If anyone has shutter, I believe it's also on YouTube, if you want to rent it on YouTube worth the watch. It's it's a classic Mexican horror movie.

[00:43:13] And don't remember if I've talked about this podcast, but they say we go road. I when I read it, I thought it was we go road like we go road. But they say we go road anyway. So we go road.

[00:43:26] There's there a horror movie review podcast, but they only do Latina Latinx Latino movies and they just did an episode. Well, by the time this comes out, it's a couple of weeks old now. So I love watching things and then watch

[00:43:41] and then hearing episodes about whatever I watched. So I listened to their episode after I watched it and super funny great episode on the movie. So I recommend both of those things. Those are my spooky recommendations. OK, I will give that a check. Check it out, whatever.

[00:43:55] I can't talk. Neither one of us can. It's time to call it a day. I'm so happy that we are back to recording. I missed you. So I'm not going to be on the next recording, but that's you will not. No. Yes, birthdays, graduation. Yes, lots of stuff.

[00:44:13] Yeah. Mm hmm. But after that, you'll be back after that. Don't worry. Someone left a comment. They're like, where's MJ been? Because there was like that month that you were like not on any episode. I was sick that month. And I was like, oh, don't even worry.

[00:44:27] She's back now and then then you weren't. And they're like, listen, I'm not a true there. We're just surviving over here. Barely for hanging on by a thread. Yes, yeah. But yeah, thanks for listening. Check out Wicked Roar and that movie.

[00:44:45] And I don't know, watch out for rocks falling on the roof of your house because maybe fuck, what's his name? I already forgot it. Fuckin maybe Joaquin is around. My brain also went poof. Yeah, my autocorrect kept changing Joaquin to fucking

[00:45:02] and I had to go back and change it on all my notes because I was talking into it. I wasn't typing. No, I do that sometimes. I do that sometimes like what the fuck was I saying? I'm not. And then I tell my husband, I was like,

[00:45:16] is this what I fucking sound like when you listen to me talk? Yes. And then like his brain is like, do I tell her the truth or do I lie? Yeah, he's like that that meme of the kid

[00:45:29] that's like by the water cooler and then he looks away like, do I say something? No. No, you sound this is not what you sound like. Yeah, no, you speak fine. No, yeah. You are so coherent when you speak like amazed. Ten out of ten.

[00:45:48] Yes, ten out of ten. Oh, you know what? Before we go just a reminder, we are still reading the hunting of Alejandra because I have not finished it. I don't think have you have you not I have not had time to read it. Yeah, crazy as two weeks.

[00:46:04] Carmen, I'm amazed because Carmen went through it like in two days. She just benched through that book and it's good. It's good. I'm excited to finish it, but I have to remember I forgot about it that I was listening to it.

[00:46:18] So but now I remember and I'm going to finish it. It's good though, I swear. It is. It is really good. All right. Stay a spooky. We'll catch everyone next time. Bye. Bye. As bookie tells is hosted by Christina and MJ, produced and edited by Christina.
