Hi, this is Christina and Carmen, and this is another episode of a booky Tales, but not a normal episode today. No, it's finally book Club Club episode book Club book Club, book Club book Club op. It's outside down, that's how can you read? And you did not read? Yes, we finally made it. We survived. This was besides the U S taine forever with the book. I have had a day. It's yeah, a mess. I don't want to talk about it, virtue. I'll just say that I do want to talk about it. No, I don't, all right anyway. Also, we took very long reading this one. Well, I don't think we took that long actually reading it, but doing the notes on it that took long. That took long. I just kept forgetting and then I basically had to like skim the entire book again and the past three or four days because I couldn't remember anything, And I was like, why the fuck didn't I just write these right away when I finished it. I honestly I think that I should recap it because I finish it sooner usually, But the thing is writing the recap No, I know, yeah, yeah, but that's what I mean, Like if I just do it right when I finish it. Yeah, that's true, when you finish it. Also, on the plus side of this horrible day that has been for me today, our curls are curling today. Oh yeah, your curls look so you'll see the picture we said, but episodes. Yes, Oh, I was going to introduce the book, but I guess you're doing it. Huh. Yeah, And we did read the Witches of Elpaso. This is our first book club book of the year. Wow. Yeah. We announced it December, no before. Oh my god. Yeah, well here we are a few months later. Yes, we are talking about the Witches of elpas by Luis Caramillo. And I will say I love the cover. It's giving beautiful gowns. Beautiful gowns, right, yes, not sheety, because you know that was what Who was it that said that about Taylor Swift? Oh, I don't know. I'm got a loop on this. You don't get the reference. No, well, I feel like I have to tell you, okay, Arita Aretha Franklin said it? What did she say? New album is about divas. I want to throw out a few names of davas instead of get your one word reactions, to get your impression of various singers. So when I say that the name of Deele, will comes to mind the singer good singer, Alicia Keys Young performer, good writer, producer Taylor Swift. Okay, great, great gownsfuls Uh Whitney Houston. Whitney was a talent. Beautiful, beautiful gowns. I see. I know about this cover, beautiful cover, beautiful cover, beautiful gown. Yes, average inside, but we'll get to that later, we will. Yeah, do you want to read the synopsis? Okay, so synopsis. If you call to the witches, they will come. Nineteen forty three, El Paso, Texas, teenager Nana spent her days caring for the small Turgan children of her older sisters and logging for a life of adventure. The premonitions and fainting spells she has endured since childhood are getting worse, and Nana worries she'll end up like the scary old Kurandera down the street. Nana prays for help, and when the mysterious sister Benedicta arrives late one night, Nana followed her across the borders of space and time. In colonial Mexico, Nna grows into her power, finding love and learning that magic always comes with the price. In the present day, Nana's grand niece Marta balances a struggling legal aid practice with motherhood and the care of the now ninety three year old Nena. When Martha agrees to help search for a daughter Nana left in the past, the two four j fierce connection Martha's own supernatural powers emerge, nan her to the new possibilities that they're in the life she has constructed. Yes, and I forgot to say at the top, but in our book Club episodes, the way they work is that first we do first we announce it's a book Club episode again book Club. Yeah, we say book Club, booklub a few times. Then Carmen reads a synopsis that's actually from the back of the book, usually so that it's spoiler free, and that's it. That's our only spoiler free section after this spoiler's galore, because it's an entire recap of the whole book. At the end of the recap, we do discussion questions. I, for one, love a recap even if I haven't read the book. I also love bother recap because I'll listen to it and I'll be like, do I want to read this exactly? I love it too when I have read the book, no matter how long ago, because I'll usually remember some parts of it, and so I love a recap to hear what other people think. In fact, you know what, I'll have some instead of stupooky recommendations, some book recommendations or something. I don't know you would call it. At the end of the episode, I just discovered a new book club podcast. What's my point of that? What book club podcast? It's called mean book Club, Mean book Club. I need to look at being mean. We know, we know, we know not And I said that raising my hand because I have been personally victimized by Carmen. I've been personally victimized by me too, So yeah, look at us. I've been personallyed by you two. Don't act like you're not mean. No, you're right, you're right, you're right. Yeah, that's right. Okay. So now from here we're doing the recap. We're going through the book. I am skipping parts. Obviously it's not like a word for word that'd be crazy. But with this is the recap part, and then after that we do discussion questions throughout the recap right, and then the discussion questions we do thoughts throughout the recap, and then what are rating at the end? Yes, and then our reading. So the recap, let's get into it. The book starts with an angry woman named Sophia spitting at Martha the worst, the worsest thing you can do is spare someone, oh, truly discussing. Yeah, Sofia tells Martha that her life is falling apart and that it's all Martha's fault. The woman tells her or Sophia tells her that she wishes she never met her or Linda, and then she she tells Martha they're all witches and they put the evil eye on her. Sofia wants to drop the case, and Martha's like, don't be stupid, and then Sophia storms out and being spit on, talks to you like this has never happened to Martha. She's like, what the fuck, bitch? What? And I'm gonna say this now, but we don't learn it yet, but we learned throughout the book what this is about. Martha is a lawyer. She's representing women, a group of women in a case like it's a very powerful man. His name is Bencamino, and he owns Soto pe Cans and it's a set, actual harassment case with multiple women, and of course these women are low income, undocumented, you know, the most at risk when it comes to this kind of stuff. And as Sophia points out to Martha, most of the people in this case, in this lawsuit, they don't have papers or rich husband like Martha. She says that to her. And we also learned that the firm Martha works for needs to win this case because they only have enough money to stay open for like two more months. And her boss, the firm owner, Jerome, doesn't understand, care or realize the gravity situation, maybe a mix of those things. He's old and so him and Martha, And this is not back to the recap. That was just a little explanation of the lawsuit. Yeah, it takes a while to get there, and I kind of wish they would have said sooner, like, yeah, the fuck is happening anyway. So, while Jerome and Martha are talking about this case, Martha gets a phone call from her great aunt, her Tia Abuela, and Nana is worried because I'm sorry, Martha is worried because Nana doesn't call at this time of day, so she's like, I better go see what she wants, better go figure out like help her or whatever, because it's weird for her to call right now. And she's walking away. Jerome is like, oh, is that your tiad the Witch? And Martha's like, don't call her that. Then we go to Nana, and to me, it was not clear right away. But we're in the past with Nana. Oh, were you listening in this part or were you reading? Yeah? I was listening and wasn't reading. If you're reading it, yes, yeah, it was so Nana. We go to Nana's point of view now. Also, I just feel like there's no transitions. It's just I don't know. I guess maybe a transition isn't necessary. Well, because each it's a different chapter. Yeah, I feel like that's oh sorry, in the audiobook, there is no transition. Oh it's hard to tell. Yeah. So when it went to Nana, I was like, well, Martha's about to go see Nana, so oh, and then it starts talking about Nana but in the past. Confusing. Yeah, that was confusing to me. Yeah, So we go to Nana and it's in the past. With Nana. She's living with her sisters Orga and Luna. Their parents have passed away. Nana is not like her sisters, and we also learned this as World War two era. Luna and Olga husbands are both gone in World War two fighting overseas. And because Nana is not like the other girls, she's not married. She's very different though not like in a tomboyish way, not like the other girls parents. This is deroatory again, she's not like them because she's not in the same stage of life as am. I guess she's not. She's seeing ya all. Yeah. She also thinks she's uglier. Yeah, and she's been told this like by the family, Like it's like not just her own thing she made up, like she has reasons to feel this way. Yeah. And her personality also is like like like an ugly personality bracelet to her sisters a break Yeah, and that and these are things that are told to her. Yeah, I don't think that about her. In fact, I think that about math fat No, in fact that you know, oh even later, we will get to it anyway. So, yeah, we learned she's not like her sisters. Her sisters both work because now the husbands are gone. They need to make money, so they're working and Nana is taking care of her nibblings a wile her sisters are working. But it's like a thankless job her sisters. Her sisters are kind of bitches, honestly. Yeah. I was team Nana the whole way, the whole time. Me too, Me too, because like she's doing them a favor. She's not their sleeve, she's not their servant. Yeah, and yet they're acting like she is. And so Nana's taking care of the kids all day. Her sisters get home and knack her about like things that are not clean, and then they go out at night. Yeah, so she's taking the care of the kids twenty four to seven. These are not her kids, right, these are nibblings. Okay, Like you get it. You love your niblings, but no, you're not there. You're not supposed to be treated like this when you're taking care of them. It should be like a special Plus, she's young and she wanted to continue her education if I'm remembering right, and she couldn't because she had to take care of them exactly. So you know, Nana's in the midst of this. She's in she's in it, she's deep in it. And she says, as they say, thank you, that's what I was looking for and I couldn't remember phrase. I'm anything worse than being in the parenting trenches to children that you did not choose to birth. And I say that, yeah, also for you know, women dad are forced to enter pregnancies. But yeah, you know, yeah, of course. So Nana in the trenches is thinking about her own childhood and what led her to live like this. She's like, man, I don't want this. And you know, we learned through her looking back now that she's always had these visions that have made life absolutely worse for everyone. So another reason why they don't like her already, right, Yeah, And when she sees these visions, she hears this buzzing sound and like ladybugs are always around her, and she's like, why are they here? Lea me lone? Ladybugs and these visions that come with this buzz they're never as straightforward as they seem. And she's contemplating all this life and it's four am. She hears the baby's crying. She's like, oh my god. And she hears the humming, that familiar buzz hum when a vision's coming or something, and she says to herself, help me, Please let me be something more than I am now, Please God, let me be brave and have adventures. In the middle of all this buzzing, she hears a woman calling her name. She goes outside to follow her voice, and then she sees a woman with a black veil and a black riboso. Super creepy, like I was picturing this, and I was like, oh my God, like yeah the imagery also like I pictured it, very gothic, you know, like yes, yeah, yeah. The woman tells Nana. The woman in black tells Nana she's come to bring her home. Nna, of course, it's like I am home. The woman tells her that someone named Madrino Senda has come to take her to the Aquilare and that if she's like them, then her visions are stronger and they can help her with this. It's called levista. They can help her control it. And then I was like, oh, yeah, I do have visions, that's true, and yeah this is getting worse. I'm having fainting spells and I'm not remembering things things like that. So she follows her. She goes through whatever like a little portal almost, and so now they're like in a convent, and then I was like, why is there a convent? But it's like there's brujas and the woman who still hasn't introduced herself, it's like, we're not brujas, we're servants of God and honestly they're brugas. Yeah, they are just what we called that. Yeah. The woman then says that she's Sister Benedicta de la Cruz and Nana needs to hurry. Oh sorry, they haven't gone to the portal yet. She's still explaining all this, but their time is running out. The portal is like getting smaller. She's like, do you know you have thirty seconds? Sister Benedicta tells her she needs to hurry make up her mind if she's gonna go with her or not, because they're running out of time, and Nana decides to do it, thinking it's not gonna be long before she's back anyway. She's like fucky, yeah, and so she follows her and they're walking across the yard, but now everything looks different. Buildings that were there are gone, including Fort Bliss, and so Nana's like, where are we And she's like Ela, what do you mean? And she's like, no, where in time are we? Wait? Year is it? And Sister Bena acts like it's crazy that she's asking this, But I'm like, ever, didn't Sister Benedicta that notice that things look different? When she got to the way she answers her, She's like, yeah, what do you mean it's seventeen ninety two? Are you asking such silly questions? And it's like, well, didn't things look different to you, sister Sister. So Nana realizes she's in the past somehow, and it's not Texas or Mexico, it's New Spain. Yeah. So as a pairent walking to the convent, they run into Sister Benedicta's a brother, Emiliano, And I mean, I think we only this seems like it doesn't matter, but it matters because we meet him later. I forgot that she meets him this soon or early. Yeah, I don't even remember. I didn't write down like any specifics. I think this's just like a high and by type of encounter, like, and they continue into the convent. Meanwhile they're walking and I was like, am I going to be able to go back? Like She's like what have I done? Yes, And so she follows the sister into a room where she's told to wait, and sudden they we're back with Martha again. Very abrupt to me. I don't know, I think though, because I had the audio book, I think so, yeah, because I want to say, each point of view is a different chapter. If I remember it is it is right? Yeah, oh yeah, when you're reading it, it's not like abrupt. Yeah yeah, I think you're right. So suddenly we're back with Martha. She's arrived at Nana's house. But we're in the present now, and you know, mat or sorry, Nana is ninety three. Yeah, yes, ninety three, which I just realized when you read the synopsis because I put ninety something because I didn't catch how old she was anyway, Yeah, I was. She lives alone. Both her sisters have now passed away, and she's always been the cuckoo bananas tia loca right like yeah, yeah, which is cool too. I think that's honestly the best kind of thea. And yeah, I don't have a dea like that. I don't think. I think our mom isn't that dea a little bit. I feel like, out of all of them, yeah, yeah, because she's out there, you know, breaking the social norms of the culture. Yeah, just like Nana. Just like Nana. Yeah. But also Nana's very into and we learned later it's because of La Vistaine when she went through. But she does, like in her free time, do like terror reading, so further giving her the label of La Loca. And so apparently Martha has been trying to convince her to move into a home called losign Los Pines, Pignons. I don't remember where the ena is. I think it's Bignon maybe, Yeah, into a home called Los Bignon where her older sisters were in their last years of life. Old people home. There's another name, but I can't remember it. Like a retirement home, yeah, something like that. Nursing home maybe, but I thought nursing home was for like people that uh does matter? Yeah yeah, yeah, I'm kidding all that senior home. I don't know. Senior home. Yes, it's like a senior home. It's the same scenior home that her older sisters were put in once they reached a certain age. But she doesn't want to go. But the reason Nana called marthe is because her product Rice almost caught fire or did catch fire? I wasn't quite clear. I think I think it was a fire fire. Yeah, there was a fire because as Martha's walking in her kitchen, she sees like, well she thinks is soot on the wall. We later learned it's not soot. Yeah, I'm not sure. Whatever. Anyway, Martha tells her to pack a bag so she can come with them for a little bit. And when she tells her that, Nana was like, oh, you saw it, didn't you, Lavista? I know you saw it. And she's like whatever Martha, and thena whatever. So I've been crazy and Martha or Nana not even caring that she seems crazy. She's like, oh, yeah, you're gonna need me where things are changing. I know it. I know you saw it. You'll have questions. I'm here. And the whole time I was like, what is she talking about? I meant to do this sooner. I forgot we always cast our characters. Oh we do. And now that you're recapping, I'm like, you know, picturing things in my mind. And so I because of the you know, mom and old woman dynamic like grandma almost dynamic, but she's a great aunt. Whatever. Yeah, because of that I was picturing one day at a time. Okay, I don't know their names, but you know the mom from one day at a time, and then the grandma. Okay, Grandma, I know her name sometimes, so I can't remember it right now, you know what I'm talking about. The yeah I do gard name, but yeah, that's why I was picturing, like say, the like a not as mean looking, but like someone like Mamma Melda from Goco. Okay, yeah, I could see that, and then I don't. I don't have really anyone for Martha. The reason I did be no, you go, I was gonna say. The reason I didn't picture someone like as old and mobile as Mama Coco was because Nanna is active. No, not Mama Coco. Mami Mela oh my bad. Yeah yeah, is like bossing everyone around in the unrill right I forgotten? Then, yes, but she's not cuckoo enough. She gave more the vibes of one of the madres Marinosenta, no, no, who's thee like you're right, Sister Benedicta, that Maimelda? Yes yeah yeah, and honestly the twenty tas one of them is Nana yeah yeah yeah, but I still don't have anyone from Martha that I'm like picturing there, you can go with mine, yes, And that's the only people I picture. I didn't picture anybody else me neither, except Mammy Melda now for sister, and then Mama Coco for Madrino Centa because she's older. Yeah, so that's why I picture it actually now, and I did not picture anyone for a milliono me neither. He's just like this blank face, generic cog guy. Get generic Spanish guy. Yeah, yeah, education, you know what I want to No, Montoya is Emiliano, yes, yes, yeah, that's Kenon now, yes, yeah, what about you? I didn't picture that in my mind. Actually, Young Nana actually was her name. I don't remember her name. I only remember Mono. I actually don't have any one for young Na. Let us know who you pictured if you read the book, because that's where my imagination ends me too. All right, So back to this, We're now in the past. We've left Marta Nena at her apartment, and we're in the past. Uh. Nana is at the convent. She meets Madre, who asks, how do you know you're in the past? And then I was like, okay, first of all, I mean like she came from another timeline. How would she not know? But she says like it smells different here, and then smells her and she's like, you smell different too, Nana smells of deodorant. Yeah, actually, did they have the orderant in the nineteen forties. I'm pretty sure they had deodoran in the nineteen forties. Okay, I don't know. I don't know who she's because, yeah, I'm not entirely sure because out of like powder, you know, the talcum powder. You're right, answer later, Yeah, yeah, Maddarino. Senttha tells Nana she's a gift from God. It's a gift from God that Nana is here. Sister Benedicta is like, I don't know about this, Sister. I think she's I think this is the work of the devil. She's actually a demon. But whatever, Nana's there now. They can't do anything. They have to take care of her. They brought her there. They had to teach her about Labista eventually, right, and so then they have like the meeting of the Akila, which is like the witch seance meeting, right or like you know, the witchy group in the convent. Not everyone is a part of this only the witches, only the witches. Yes, So this is the first meeting of the Aquilare. And then I meet everyone else who's in this, Sister Francisca, Sister Paloma, and Sister Carmela, and they're all going to call Laveista together. So they sing their little song. They hump together. Madrieno Santa toos him. Leavesta's with us now and we'll be able to see what in Cantos you live. And that's what confused me the most, Like, okay, so there's Livesta, there's in Cantos, and there's the Aquilare and the song. So the Akila sings the song that the Akilata is the meeting. The gather is the gathering of the wa gathering. Yes, yes, and they hum together. They hum together, and they bring Leveista. Yeah, and la Wista gives them in Cantos ye is like the actual magic, whatever magical power it is. And then then cantos are their magical like enchantments. I guess, okay, okay, thanks, because that was confusing for me. So Maderno Santa tells her, now we'll be able to see what and Ganto's live within you. Nana and During this, Nana coughs up a coyotes thing, so she right, no one knows what it means, and they end the meeting. They'll reconvene next Saturday for another aquilare. But then I was like, when do I go home? And of this is what she's thinking, yes, and Maderno Santa is like, you'll go home, and Lavista says, you'll go home like when it's done with you, because it does what it wants. Yeah, So until then the convent will be her home. And now we're back in the present timeline with Martha and Nna. Martha tells her she's been seeing lady bugs everywhere and then I was like, oh, that's La Bista and Sister Benedicta and Rosa are trying to come through. And Martha's like, oh my god, what are you talking about. It's all nonsense. Stop being crazy. And then I was like, Okay, I went to the past. And when I went to the past, I told my sisters about the past and about the baby I had in the past, and they put me in a home for the insane, and I mean it sounds insane. Yeah. Martha's like, oh my god, I had no idea I'm so sorry. She's like, no, no, no, I'm not sharing this because I need your pity. I need your help. I need your help bringing Drosa over because she's trying to cross. And Martha's still like, I'll help you find her because I'm sure there's documents, and she's still insisting that Drosa is not in the past, that she's like lost just meeting, like maybe she was adopted out and she's somewhere out there. Yeah, and so she does agree to help Nana find Rosa, but find me something else to each one of them. Nana tells her that they need to catch an encanto. And this is what confuses me because it's like, well, I thought you sang the song. It is weird. I think that the nuns had a stronger control of because there were so many of them. What is it called levista. Yeah, I don't know if it's because there were so many of them or because they had more experience with it and I'm working with it for longer, so I think they were able to bring and yeah, maybe I think the amount of people that were there singing, because it seems like that's what brings it on. Yea and for Nana and Martha. It's like random, like coming randomly, I guess, but more for Martha. So I think that's what they mean by catching Kanto, Like, oh, like if you feel it strongly at this point, then we need to like I don't know whatever they okay, no, no, this makes sense. That makes sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, more than what I was thinking before, because I was thinking nothing. I'm like, what does this mean? All right? So Martha's like, oh my god, I don't know any magic spells. It's being a bitch. She's such a hanger is I'd be diving into this like magic. What do we do next time traveling? Yes? Please get me out of here. So Nana tells her again about La Vista, how it'll make her hungry. It probably has already made her hungry, but not for food. For the d I don't remember Nana telling her this. Yeah, she's like, you'll notice changes, You'll you'll notice you're more hungry, but not for food. Have you and Alexandro I have anything different? And then she's like, oh my gosh, you heard me fucking my husband this morning. Oh that probably's kind of funny. That was funny, But Nana doesn't care about this. She's like, no, please save your embarrassment. I don't care, Like, I'm just trying to tell you that this is La Vista. It's not you, it's not your relationship. Isn't suddenly better, it's on the side effects. Yeah, which brings the question, how do the nuns deal with that? You know, I don't know. Maybe that's why they were so hung We'll get there, but that's why they were Maybe they were so hungry for the bah. Yeah, there's a lot of little elements to the magic which were really and like a little I much or what I'm trying to make sense of it. Yeah, it was a little it's hard to understand. So mart Da in the end does promise to help Nana, but she's still thinking something else is happening in Rosa is like just missing and magic's not real, and she's not saying a Vista. She doesn't believe any of it. And then we're back in the past and like we were saying, it's basically one chapter with Martha in the present, and then went in the past with Nina. So now we're you know, back in the past and in the comment, Nana is getting to know the other girls, there. She's also learning that she can't just use le Vista when she wants because she tried. She wanted to go back home, but she passed out when hit her head in the process. Like the Vista just appears when it wants to. You can't control it, especially now by yourself. She also learns that it makes you super hungry and hot. That's how she knows this. And by hot, and like she wants Ornie. Yeah, yeah, she wants some d Yeah. And so I was honestly a little tired by and forth already here and this is the middle of the book, like the back and forth of the chapters. Yes, I just wanted, yes, wanted Morena. Honestly, that's my problem. Yeah, I didn't really care about Madda, like which I didn't. I didn't, so uh. And I'm also not going to like deep deep dive into the convent and what happens there. But Nana learns that there's a lot of gossiping and secrets at the convent, which I love. I loved all this convent stuff. The convent gave me novella vibes, you know how it was, Yes, we do. Yeah. She also you know, learns only some girls are part of the akila Not everyone knows that this is happening, but there's like cheese may about like them diving into and so then it's time heard to meet again with the Bluegrass, which they don't call themselves brus, but that's what it is. They're having another akilatin. It's Saturday now, so like a week hass gone by, and Madrenosenta gives Nana this liquid bache and so or no, sorry it's not yet scratched that. Oh, she gives her this liquid or that tooth that that Nana had coughed up the coyotes tooth. Myleno sent that grounded up and put it in some herbs, and she gives it to Nana to drink. And then I was like, you want me to drink this ship and she's like, yeah, you have to do what I said. And then like she's get she gets weird. She drinks this drink and then animals come out of nowhere, gross animals like mice and cockerroaches and raccoons, but also a deer, rabbits, a salamander, a dozen fucking rats. They're all trampling over Nana to get to the pot. They're putting themselves in the pot. They're fucking killing themselves. The animals are killing themselves. It's crazy. Yeah. I was like, I was like, what the fuck is happening? Like, oh my god, more animals? When do they stop? It was weird. I loved it, and and so then the song goes away. Then canto stops. The animals are gone, but they were there because it smells like they were there, and there's little droppings, animal droppings, so it wasn't like they were imagining, yes, and they all saw it. They all saw it too. Yeah, And then I was like, oh my god, how we're going to clean this? And ma Lino Senta's like, then Cato's not done yet, and there's still a low hum that they can all hear, apparently, and then Maleno Senta's like, we're all going to drink this now, the thing that all the animals went into and fucking died inside of. She's just weighing it. She's just making this shut up like she doesn't know what's going on either. And then I was like, ill, no, I'm not drinking that animals died in there. Sister Benita's like, I don't want to agree with this new girl because I don't know her, but she's right, we should not eat this, Like weird shit just happened, and it's never happened before. We don't know what's going to happen, but Mano Centa literally ignored everyone and just went straight for it, and they're like, what is she doing? But like we don't know this at this point, but Madrino Centa is like obsessed with La Vista. Yeah, and maybe something's telling her, if you drink this, you will get Labista, because she's like insisting that they had to drink it, and she literally just fucking goes for it like anyway, and so she does it, and then the rest of them do it, and it makes them go into La Vista or something like they're kind of high off the ship, right, that's how I cunctured it, yeah, but also high and powerful and it's like intoxicating, like even Nana. Everyone's drinking it and she still hasn't, but now her mouth is watering like she wants to do and she's like, what that's surprising. I didn't want this, but she she tries it and it's spicy, but then she finds herself like after she drinks it. She's flying out of the sun and in the sky she can see the desert. She has wings whatever she is animal, Yeah, she she's apparently an eagle. And then she soars down, eats a mouse. She becomes the mouse, and then a flee and then a flee flee and then a germ and then she's herself again. What a journey. Yeah, I be I be debews and dead and she's herself again. And she's like, has now this new way of seeing, hearing, smelling, her senses or heightened. It's like we were saying, a very magical, powerful feeling intoxicating. And she looks around and all the sisters look a little drunk, a little intoxicated, and at some point she is able to make everyone float like fly. This is like her and Ganto and sister Ben was like, buy me down. She's also then as big as hater. She her sisters and then Madda. But I think this is there to really show us how intoxicating, Yeah, Labista and the Encanto is and then we just like end that and I'm like I want more of this. Fine whatever, We're back in the fucking present with Martha, who cares so here's about Marta and the president and the law firm. I hope she wins a law suit for the sake of these women, but other than that, I don't care. Yes, so Martha is there a home. When she gets home later or something, her husband's there. He's like, you forgot it, didn't you You always do this and she's like, what are you accusing me of? But I hate her every scene. I don't know that wad. Yeah, it's like they just fight and have sex. Yeah, marriage, I guess, and that's what you want. Fine, but I don't care about it. It's like I don't want to read about it. I just want to read about Nanna and it's not the sex, Like I will read about young Nanda having text with them Nano again. Yeah that's hot, Yes, I like, okay, like it'll be fine. It was being described in a manner we were like that was good scene, but it wasn't even good. It was bad. Yeah, they're just so I didn't care. I didn't care anyway. He was like, I could tell man rode the sex scenes, So yeah, maybe that's it. I don't know if that doesn't tell you enough. Yeah, So, yeah, they're horny for each other. Then there's a fundraiser. That's basically what happens. So they finally go to the fundraiser, and at the fundraiser, she runs into the man she's trying to sue, Yes, Benjamino, it turns out, who's a potential donor to the hospital. She's right. She tries telling one of the workers at the hospital, one of the people that works with the fundraising. I don't know her role. It's not explained to me, but yeah, I think she's like a fundraiser for the hospital. I must have not been. Yeah, okay, so that's her role. And she tells her like, this is a terrible man. You shouldn't take his money, and she's like, who the fuck are you to tell me how to do my job? Get the fuck out of here if I can hate you, basically, but like much calmer. She's very annoyed by Martha for this who the fuck are you? Yeah, when they get home, Martha tells her husband Alexandro, how she annoyed this worker, this coworker of his by telling her this, and he's like trying to just brush it off, like he doesn't care, he doesn't care who either he was is up for a promotion or just got a promotion, and he has to work with this woman for a promotion, Okay, and that promotion involves him like not only being a doctor but being like more like not Adamin but public facing something for the hospital, so like part of these fundraisers and all that. Yeah, so like he doesn't really want to like shake things up. Yeah, from that, I did think this was interesting. I think that if we needed to read about Martha, then I wish, like a little bit of the lawsuit and this drama would have been a little bit more fleshed out. Like if I'm forced to read about her, then I wish this would have been a little bit more fleshed out, you know what I mean. I could see that, Yeah, he's he's annoyed by her bringing this up too, because he again, like you said, does I want to shake things up? He just wants to get his promotion and be good, you know. And so he reluctantly says he'll talk to the fund raising people at the hospital about this man. But mat that doesn't have high hopes for him doing this because he's always put her his career before hers. So after all this, she's like, I can't sleep, so she goes to the kitchen. Apparently then I made chile or something, yeah, and so she's like just eating it, even though it was supposed to be for Alejandro. And she's like, yeah, this feels good to see that would I don't blame her for it. I think that's funny actually, And she's eating his chilea his chile. She's a coyote in the backyard or fox, I don't remember what animal, one of those, yeah, for like the animals. And she's like, what the fuck because that and there's no bad words, it's just me. The coyote is staring at her or the animal again, I'm not sure what animal it is. It's staring at her, and then it just like drops something in the yard and leaves, and she's like, that is the weirdest shit I've ever seen an animal do. So she walks out and goes to pick up the thing and it's a tooth, yeah, much like the tooth that came out of Nina in the past, right, and I wore back in the past. And at the convent, Madrino, Senta's trying to get Nana to sing the singing song again that made them all float and then I was like, but that was kind of weird though, like should I really do that? Yeah? Like it this appropriate? It feels wrong kind of in it God's house. Yeah, I don't know about this. Luckily, Sister Benicta BENETI, oh my god, Sister Benedicta interrupts him, and then I quickly changes the subject like, oh, I think father blah blah blah, I don't remember his last name. Father. Weird there. I think you're actually some shit like that. The father knows what we're doing here, And Sister Benica's like, how could you possibly know this? And then she's forced to snitch. And again, there's a lot of drama at the convent that's a lot more fun that I'm not like diving into. I was living for the convent drama, honestly, this was the funnest part, honestly, the more fun part whatever. And so then because she said this, she's now forced to snitch on Euenya, who's kind of a bitch honestly, like the spoiled little rich girl who like is like, I'm gonna get out of here, I'm gonna marry Emilianoe. She is a gauge. She thinks she's hot. Shit, yeah she does. She doesn't want to like clean the dishes and do all the little serv and shit the rest of them are doing. And so she snitches on her because she's like, Wellena has become close with the father and she's the one who told me this, and they're like close. They shouldn't be friends. How do you mean say? And then she's like, well, I mean I think they they're like close close, and obviously this is inappropriate. This isn't being a little slut. This is being abused by the father father being exploited by the father who was a grown by. And yet they're all very young, like I mean she's u Nana's nineteen here, right, yeah, but I think everyone else is like sixteen, seventeen. Yeah, they're all in the leges. Even though she was like, I don't know, twenty would be inpropriate because the father is a leader in the convent and she is a lowly whatever their titles were. She's in a position of power, he's in a position of power, and so they're like judging for this, but obviously to me, it's the father's fault, right obviously, and this isn't allowed but then we leave this very fun drama and go back to the present with Martha there another okay, yeah, so Martha shows another tooth that came out of the animal or coyote, and I don't know what it was. I'm sorry. I think it was a coyote, coyote fox for sure. Anyway, she shows her the tooth that was in her yard, and Nana was like, oh, this is like what happened to me in the comment, and again Martha's like, oh my fucking god, not the comment again. There was no convent, the convent basically, and Nana continues about the convent. She's like, this is what we used to make the better bake, and that's what gave us the power that made you know, Santa was addicted to And like, Martha's dismissing all this again, telling her it's impossible. She just could not have been at a convent in seventeen ninety two. Yeah, it sounds a little crazy, that's a little outlandish. I don't blame her for not believing it right away. We're not all willing to believe the unbelievable, like me. Anyway, So Nana was like, all right, we need to go to the market right now, scond right now really, because that was what was built over the convent and she can still feel the vibrations of the there. And so if they go, maybe La Vista is going to show them what they need to do next, how they can talk to Rosa or find Rosa again. And on their way, Martha continues just missing or her dance, telling her she's just crazy, and Nana is going on and on about how La Bista you can't use it to get what you want, and that it's not good, it's not evil, it's not any of those things. It doesn't care about you, which is it's a force of nature, nothing more, nothing less. It does what it wants. A cool concept, Yes it is. It is. When they finally get to this market, Martha feels all dizzy. Then it's like it's Levisa, you need to eat now, And Nana doesn't want to eat a burrito, and I'm like, I'm not sorry, Martha doesn't want to eat a burrito? About it, I'm just fucking eat, Like what's wrong with you if you feel like shit? And Nana's telling you you need to eat and there's a delicious fucking burrito in front of you. You fucking eat it. It's wrong with you, fucking Martha anyway. I'm tired of her shit, honestly. So Nana's like, what you felt were the vibrations of La Bista. And then she's like, I regret it, and you're involved because like I would literally do winny thing to Zirrosa again, including selling you to the devil. And Matta was like, what the fuck Nana? Nana A little bit here, I was like, Nana, ne Da, don't tell this to the person that you need to help you. Yeah, Like, Nana, please down, be a little be a little more, a little quaint about it. Yeah, okay, Like don't let it all hang out out there like that, put it all in your sleeve, whatever the saying. Yeah, like, and go whatever I needed to fucking murder you. I would kill you to see I forgot the kid's name already, but Rosa kill you Tozirosa. And it's like I would have stopped right then and there, honestly, Nana, like, Nana, you're fucking done. I'm putting you in the home. You're gonna go to the home now it's the crazy people home again. So it's too late. Leista has was already coming from Martha anyway, and so she's like, I'm going to help you anyway. And Martha does get a vision of what they where they need to go next. It's like in the as her she sees like la loc and I'm like, okay, where does lalc literally fall into all this? That's where she goes like, okay, come on, You're just like this is I don't remember that? Yeah, remember that they're at that place. And then there's like drawings of him, right because yeah, yeah, and then I saw him, yes, because she's like this is what I saw. And then then I was like that was and He's letting you know where we need to go next, and I'm like all right right, I feel like it felt very random to me. Yeah yeah, and like I love like a random deity mentioned, you know, like a but this was like it just didn't feel like it fit in, Like you could have yeah, like he could have. It could have just been the vision. Yep, I said, is there a lord that we don't know about that like times in I mean it's not mentioned in the book, but is the rain of God or the God of rain and water? Okay? So it still has nothing to do with or La nothing. So no, it's not like connecting it at all to me. That'sine weird. All right. So now we're in the past and things are not going well in the convent. There's a disease that causes postules. Yeah, this part is also super interesting for me to read. I wanted more of this on The father has it, Elkenya has it, Sister Manuela has it, everybody except the people that drink the Brea bake. Also, at the same time, Madno Senta is literally fucking obsessed with Yeah, she wants to live in it. She's not even like she doesn't want to be there. She just wants to be in La Vista and all this mess. Sister Benita approaches Nana and tells her they need to make the bara bake again to save her brother Emiliano because he has the illness too, and she's the one who notices that no one that drink the Bara bake has the disease. So she's like, you need to go, well, make the bara bake. You need to go take it to Emiliano and help him heal him. But when you're healed, you need to stay there. And he will find you a husband, because she's like, you can't stay here anymore because there's something weird going on with you, like like something with you in La Vista, like we don't know, like you're there's something more that has like she's more powerful and it's scary. And also she's from the future. Yeah, scared of Gnestly's they hear anymore. You can't say with us exactly now we're back in the present. They go to that place in the desert. I had a name, but I didn't write it down. Okay, see this is still the same place. It's where they went like that for whatever the hell it is? What is it again that they go where they go where the Locke drawing is And I was looking at them market. They're not in the market anymore. They're in the desert. But it's not like a random desert. It's like some kind of like like historical site and there's like a museum. There's a museum something like that, and there's like things there and that's why that's why. Okay, hold on, sorry, let's go back a little bit. When she had the vision, she says, Lavista time team again and strong Nanasay is in an excited voice. What did you see the desert and rain? Yes, it looked funny, cartoony flat nanasays, that was the rain god. One of the pictographs at the Weko tanks. Okay, that's the connection. That's the connection tanks and there is connection. Then there's a pictograph of at the Weko tanks. That's how they know where they need to go. And there it was a connection. Sorry, I was very wrong all that. So if you're like hearing us and you're like, no, you're so wrong, let it be clear that we got there. I look, you forgot about that. But that's why I'm like, you're wrong about this because what you're saying it makes it seem like they go to this random, like desolute place. But it's like a like a I don't know, toruistic kind of place. I think, yeah, yeah, something like that. And I was like, why are her cutes there? But I just realized because I flipped the page right now, But it was a half day science camp and whatever. Her shitty husband can't go get them. It has to be her because I see network and his important fucking job because he's a doctor. Yeah, so she has to take time off her witchery shit to go pick up her kids. That's why they're there, You're witchy shit. Yeah, seriously. So yeah, because I'm like, for some reason, the kids are at the ego tanks and I'm like, why are they there? But now I know why. Yeah, so they get there and yeah, they can sense this is where they were supposed to be. Martha's like, oh sorry. Nana tells Martha to sing a song, and Martha's like, what song? But it comes to her because she has this vista gift, so she sings the song of the Kilare without even knowing that that's the song. And then at some point one of her stupid kids falls off a cliff. Ruin's the witchy shit. I know, normally I don't mind kids and anything, because like, really, a kid will literally do this for no reason. Yeah, yeah, I will fall off a cliff when you're trying to bring back the doctor of your Tia Aula from the past, when you're trying to do which ships, they will fall off a cliff break army. Yeah, it was. It really brings you out a woman, you know. Yeah, it's money in that sense, and she's like overly worried about him and like girls, sister, just take them to the hospital. They'll put a cast on them. He'll be it's not that serious. Yeah, there's a well okay, I don't know how we might come off when I say it, and I'll say it. I'm not a mom, jusitia, but it really annoys me when something happens and it's not that serious, and not just moms, but parents will make a big old deal about it, and I'm like, dude, it's a little cat, it's a little dis if anything, I should really want freaking out because I'm the one that's not around kids all the time, you know what I mean? I honestly and I honestly completely agree with you, but I think I think we're just bitches. So we're not We're not the normal ones. They're the normal ones for I don't know some people, Okay, Like he falls off this cliff right, and she's like, oh, oh my god, my poor baby is see e We're gonna breathe again. And I don't think she says that, but it feels like that, and I think part of me is because I just don't like her. You're right, maybe that was it, but it reminded me just now we were talking about it of the book I talked about last week, the thirst so thirsty whatever it's going to not so thirsty thirsty, and that she went on too long about her budgets son. There's what I'm saying, Yeah, where she takes the kid to the dentist and he's freaking out because that's what kids do with the dentist. And she was on and on and on about like questioning whether she's a good mother or not. And I'm like, lady, you're a good mom. You took him to the dentist. And that's the vines it gave me, you know, Like Okay, So he falls, right, he loses his grip, he falls, and he falls. Kids fall. Marta runs to him, dropping down to her knees. He's clutching his belly, the white of his eyes showing panic. She wishes that I handled were here. Even the older brother's like, nice fall, dude, Like it's it doesn't seem that crazy to me. And after two the Kiah She's like, if we were alone, he'd be crying. She's like, are you her adrenaline raising through her veins. I mean, it wasn't like a super high fall. It didn't seem that high to me. It could be just like it over here. Yeah, And what was the point of that? I guess just because she's the mom first before anything. Yeah, and she reads letting this journey with Nana and Laista, that's the point of it. Yeah, but yeah, it didn't do it for me, and I didn't know. Why did you give a shit? Then she does continue to obsess over Laviista. So then I'm like, what was the point of this little fucking lesson? Yeah? Yeah, because look look at this line. Right after that, Martha feels foolish. All thoughts of helping Nana find Rosa or sweat from her mind as she looks at the child right in front of her. She went to what is because she had a fear that something bad was going to happen. Then she left the boys so she could go off with Nana to practice magic to make herself feel powerful, even though she knew of what could happen. But it's like, Okay, nothing serious happened. He just fell. You could have been there sitting on the table and guess what. You still would have made it in time, and he would have felt either way. No, okay, And so then they're on the way back, they're sleeping, they're asleep, they're taking a nap, and she's like, please be okay. I promise I won't put him in danger again. It's like, girl, he's okay, he's not being He's okay. I promise you. He's gonna fucking live. I feel better with how I felt about it because you, as the resident mama of this podcast, I defer to you. I will say, though feeling I think, I think my point of view on this is a little like it's cute because I was. I was a medic and they are, and then I have years of being, you know, in medicine and when we were another and for me, even if they were to break their bones and there's like a little bone sticking now, I would be calm. Yeah. But also he's of therapy, you know, because in this kind of situation elation, you have to be the calm one, and you have to and it's not that you have to. Martha was I think outwardly calm, but inwardly yeah not. But even you're her inner talk. I want to hear anthots either. But like, okay, my, when my oldest child was two and I was very pregnant with Sammy, and I could fucking walk. He I went, I took him to a new park by myself, but I had not yet realized how much I could not walk. Right, You learned along the way. I learned it along the way. Yes, I learned it. After he broke his COVI goal, which is rare, but and he slid. He so he he was wearing he just track suit, which is not shoot out fait. It's so fast there's no traction, still a rant. He flew down and you know, normally I will have him go down the slide and I walk around to catch him when he's down there, right, But this playground was a little bigger. I was very very pregnant, and he didn't take it to account the slowness of your movement. No, I didn't. And so he fucking flew down the slide and he landed, and the thud was so loud, you know, and he just screamed. And then at this time, he wasn't really like a child that screamed along when he fell, like he would just kind of get up. I'm like, ooh, I hears something's wrong. Oh, And he was crying and crying and like, you know, I could have gotten down to my knees and cried with him and like freakd the fuck out. No. I picked him up and I was like should I take him to urgent care? And then I saw that he was like holding onto his little arm, and I'm like, okay, we should go to urgent care. But even even there, I see this happens to some kids and the parents are almost like if it happened to them, crying, yeah, and that's just never going to be me. I want to be a rock during this as he should. And also it just doesn't. Some people were like, oh my god, it just hurts my heart. It breaks my heart when this happens, and it's like, yeah, it's sad, but like I guess you have no empathy. Not just kidding. Honestly, sometimes I wonder because I also sorry, this is like a little side tangent now. The same thing when when people will be like, oh my babys in kindercardia now and like crying because they dropped it off the carcardien. I honestly didn't. I didn't, and I was like, I'm so excited for him. He's gonna make friends, he's gonna learn things. And I I mean I heard some parents yeah that experience too. I know, I guess some people, it's just a different, different variety. I will say this also reminded me of Kindred of you know, she goes back in time every time her ancestor gets injured his mom. Oh my god. It's like the worst and nothing in compares toon to how Martha reacts. The way that mom reacts. It's like overboard. Even the kid is like, leave me alone, please, I'm fine, Please stop. Yeah. So honestly, Martha, I'm like, Martha, breathe. Yeah, it's true because he's snapping back there. He'll survive. He will survive, and he did. And you're not the worst one in the world. No, just yeah, you're just annoying. But I don't know. Those are my thoughts on Martha. I do think she's aver reacting, but also like I understand if those are your feelings, It's just not what I go through when they get hurt. I'm just like, oh no, like, let me help you, but let me not also be as sad as you are right now, because that's not going to help, you know, And I wish that more people were like that, and I was like that, yeah, yeah, so Martha here is annoying to me. In short, she's annoying information Mata annoyed. Yeah, because again he just fell and he's not now, he's not being on his way, like I get it. Did it even need to go? And he had a concussion Okay, yeah, yeah, you should check those things, but whatever, you know. Yeah, anyway, so yeah, whatever that partly, I'm like, why were her kids eving with her? Wow? Wow? Wow, we really doctor about this. Sorry, it's because it got on my nerves, it really did. Yeah, yeah, okay, moving on. We're sorry. If that offended anyone, I'm sorry. It's just I don't like Martha and got on my nerves. Anyway, Right after this part in the past and then I finally goes to Emiliano, Emiliano sings a little song, gives him brabaha, saves him, you know. And that part is longer in the book, but I'm just not going to get into it. In the present, Marta learns that sued the women that are suing him back, which is a total shit dick move. Yeah, something straight out of the Johnny Depp playbook exactly. Yeah, and the woman from the beginning. Sofia has changed her testimony, and so Martha goes to visit her. She sees a new car in the driveway. It's clear that she's being bribed. Yeah, but there's no proof. And then she threatens Sofia and not to ruin the which is probably not the right thing on that. Yeah, not the right thing to do here, but she's mad. It can she can feel la bista, but don't. I don't think she realizes what she did here. I don't think she did it on purpose. It comes back later, didn't do it on purpose, Yeah, no, but she's mad when she confronts her, and really she shouldn't have gone there in the first place. Yeah. So then we go to the past. We see Nana now living in the Gallaves home and she's starts to get to know Emiliano, who's a very annoying motherfucker. He's very arrogant, yea, literally so annoying, not likable in the very least. I don't think he was meant to be likable at all. But at some point they fall in love. Yeah, we're back in the present. I'm e skipping a lot of things for them falling in love, but it was longer. It was just that, you know. Anyway, in the present, there's another part with Martha or her husband whatever, who cares. They're horny for each other. That's literally it. Yeah, but it's not even fleshed out. It's just like, oh my god, I'm so hot for you. They have sex and whatever. That's it. Sometimes they don't, I don't know. After this, she goes to her and Sophia is at her office. She's a priceless see her, and Sofia is like, you cursed me? And Martha was like, no, I didn't, but she did it on purpose, but I think she did. Leaveista did it. When Lewista stands how angry she was, and she's like, well let me help you out, girl, Yeah, because Letista. You know, when it wants it acts on something, you know. Yeah, it's not every what you want, No, not at all. And she's like, my what does she say? Has been happening to her? I didn't write it down? And it's creepy shit like I don't remember. Isn't it something with her tongue or my misremembering? Yeah? It is, yeah, two five? Oh oh. She puts a tiny curl of metal on her tongue and she's like, I scraped this off my tongue last night and then I was like, what is it? And she says that she thought her she thought she heard her mom calling for her, but when she went and she was sleeping, and so then her tongue felt funny. She went to the mirror and then when she took it out, there was a so over thing on her tongue and it was warm when she touched it, and she thought she was having a dream, but she was able to scrape it off. And then when she went to the bathroom, the shavings were there on the sync, so it's like real they were there, and she's like, you put my little on me, very gross anything with the mouth. I'm like, what discussing body of witchy stuff? I wish more happened, you know, same yeah, same, And yeah it was her, but I don't she didn't do it on purpose, but she was angry. She felt powerful because La Vista's like and heightening her emotions, and she went over there when she shouldn't have, and then this happened. She really was cursed. Yeah, yeah, And she's like, you're you're a brucha you're a witch. And then Martha fucking Martha. So Martha tells her like because also Sophia is being bribed, but she Ifia has recordings of her being abused, I think or something like that, it's improved that would be creating hand it over because of the bride Brian. Yes, And so then Martha tells her, if you give me the recordings, I'll lift the curse. Yeah, my sister, I think you need to like go and leave or something, because yeah, this is unprofessional and it's not a good look. Yeah. First ports, Sofia has been through it also so has Martha, because Sofia did spit on her, that's what she threatened her before that at all. But this woman has been exploited and victimized by her boss. So yeah, yeah she's angry, she is. Yeah yeah, and now she's going through it with the curse. So yeah, that was I'm like Martha, stop, like, yeah, don't continue this. And then one of the past, Nana and Emiliano's relationship has progressed. There's a lot that happened to lead them here. It was kind of cute for Nana. I liked this for her, but I still don't like Emiliano. Yeah, that's how I felt too. Yeah, and they're in love. She finds out she's pregnant and they make a plan to get married. She's very happy with her life. She's like, I'm not even in the right timeline, but I'm so happy here. And she does later tell Martha like, that was everything for me. I never had that. Again, I was in the wrong. I was in the past, but I had everything. I wasn't rich. But when she's in here with him, she's she found out she's pregnant, they're making plans to get married. She felt like she had it all and I was happy for her. I was now in the present. Rafa, one of Martha's sons, tells her that he saw the old Lady in Black aka Sister Benavita, which pusses Martha off. She's like, she's coming from my son Black blas Black, and Martha, you're probably not looking at this right. I'm like, Martha, you don't even know what Sister Bantha wanted. Maybe she wasn't even threatening her him, you know, Yeah, and she wasn't learn I understand. But again she's exad or reacting, being fucking She's just like Mama Bear is going off on the wrong places. Yeah, Mama Bear needs to take a xanax. Mamay does any Wow? Okay, So now we're in the past. Nana and Emilian have their plan to run off together forever, but his ass fucking doesn't show up. I was so mad. I was so mad. I was rooting. I was not rooting for him. I wanted him to do the right thing. Also, he didn't mention with that. Milleno's dad Oh yeah, basically tells Nana, Hey, instead of looking for a husband for you, I'm actually gonna be your husband because I love the way that you eat your appetite. It's so hot for me, and I want to marry you because of that. Mind you, she's starving Horney because of the Laista vista, and she's pregnant on top of that already, you know. So that's why they make the plan to run away together, because yes, of the dad. Yeah, And ultimately, Emiliano is a piece of shit for not standing up to his dad and doing the right thing. That's right. And did you make note of the stupid I don't know if he sends a no or just a message with the one of the guys that works for him, No I didn't. Okay, So they're supposed to run off like on a horse character or something, and all he says that it's not a good it's not good weather for writing bullshit. What kind of fucking shit excuses them? Yeah, so yeah, his asks to show up, and then he sends some shitty ass fucking note that literally explains nothing, apologies or nothing. Because he's a little bitch, that's why. And all this to not send up to his dad. In the end, his reputation mattered more than Nanna and his baby. Yeah. And so now Nana and Maria, who has been helping her with his plan. She she's a servant, I think at the house and they're forced to return to the convent and they were back in the past. Martha and her super husband and kids go somewhere camping. They're gone for the weekend, leaving her and leaving her with Nana to do which ship which we love Yeah, yeah, we love it. They're gonna make the brabake and so yeah, they make it and then they eat it, cutting things so sure they make it, they eat it. And then the soot that Martha thought she had seen when the fire first happened, it's Levesta, and now she sees that it's like this black thing folding into itself aka Levesta making a little portal, And so they go through that little portal there and now they're in La Siena, the restaurant that one of the sisters they're not sisters owned, I think it was Luna. I don't remember which one, because there's Luna and Organ. I don't know one of them on the restaurant is Marta? Is her mom Grant, it's Grandmama. Yeah, I don't remember who that's right, me neither. I think it's Orga though maybe. So they walk into Lasna and it's all empty, and we leave them. Then nowhere in the past, Nana's back in the convent. Sister Benedicta is in charge now because Madno Centa has gone out the deep end. She is she is in Labista. She ate all of thebeke, all of it until it was gone in the sitting like yeah, like the fucking Telltobe is like yeah, that was her, And now her mind is lost. She is lost in the sauce of the Yeah, yes, yes, that's right, And Sister Benita's like, yeah, she's no help here. I'm in charge now. She tells Nana that once the baby's here, they're going to find a new family for it, and she can stay there forever whatever out. Oh no, no, she could stay there after Nana didn't want this, but you could say there as a servant. She couldn't be a sister at all. Right, right, yeah, and Nana doesn't want this, she wants her baby. And so Carmela, one of her best tides from the convent, was like, we can't let her do this, and like, let's go. Yes, she was cool, maybe because her name was very close to Carmen, I don't know. And so Carmela was like, let's go to Kenya. Let's see what Kenya thinks. And then I was like why would we go? Say fun up? Yeah, because yeah, when she was at the convent was a hot mess. She was a bitch, She a hut mess. It turns out, when everyone was sick, including Okenya, they did give her a little bit of backhead to try and save her, because Carmela begged them to write and they did it. But and it did save her life, but it also made her blind and scarred her face. Yeah, so she was humbled. Yeah, she was too humbled. Honestly, I honestly me too. Let me second of chilled down a little bit. So yeah, natures and yeah, just bitches, and it was it was too much. I feel that I felt bad for her. I did, I did. I didn't like it. But it also gave her visions, so now she was just all seeing powerful Brukham. Yeah, and so they make a plan. They sneak Nana into see Maderino Senta, but she's completely out of it. Nana. I was like trying to talk to her, like, I know you can hear me through that ship. I know you can hear me through. I need your help. You only you're in this situation now because I made the bach that brought you all this, that made you so happy that you ate all of it, you gretty bitch, and you owe me this. You owe me this. I need to go back to my timeline with my baby. Basically is what happens there. So Maderino Senta says nothing. He's like out of it. She's just like I don't know what she looks like. I'm picturing like yes, just freaking like, oh my god. Okay, So yeah, she says nothing. Ten months go by, her belly is getting bigger, and as Nana's belly gets bigger, mathe No Santa is weaker, weird, and Nana is afraid that made No Sana is gonna die and that door is never gonna open for her to be able to go back. And then the day comes for her to give birth and she has a little baby girl who she immediately loves, which again doesn't always happen, and that's okay. And so she has this little baby girl and she's like, you're my world. Your name is a Rosa, beautiful name, pretty name. And that's a lot for me to say it because I hated it. It was in the past, okay, but you know what, we all grow, we can let in general it's a good name. Yeah, not that Rosa though anyway. No, I'm just kidding. It was a lot hard feeling. There's a long time ago. We were like freshmen. It was all of high school. But it doesn't matter anyway, She named Dosa. Nana had been preparing to just escape the convent with Rosa anywhere, it didn't matter even if she was stuck in this time period. She was not going to stay at the convent because she didn't want to give her baby up. Of course she had to right to keep her baby if she wants her baby. We person, we thought right, because it doesn't apply her. So madegno Centa opens the door and she's like, come with me. She's like, oh my God, thank you God, because she's like, this is my way out. And so madegno Centa opened some sort of portal and she's like, oh, right, you need to go through it like now. And in the chaos of all this, sister Benedicta ends up with Rosa, with baby Rosa. And then I was like, yeah, we're back to me. That's my baby. And then the portal closest she's back in her own time without her baby. Heartbreaks, very sad. I felt for her, and because I only want good things for Nana, she's my favorite. I want the best for Nana me too. And so now we're back in the present sort of like is this they're in the restaurant. Yeah, so I don't know if it's the president. It's like another yeah there, Honestly, she said later it's a void. Yeah, it's nowhere. So now they're in the void. Martha watches the doors of the restaurant open. Two women walk in. When is dressed like a nun. The other one is in a long dress. They're both old, older when it's very old. That's sister of Benedicta. Anyway, the one in the dress runs to Nana and it's like Mama, and they're crying. They're hugging each other. It's beautiful. Then fucking Martha ruins a moment by going up to sister Benedicta and she's like, don't ever go near my son again. I just think of that. Media told me about that one time, the meme with the two identical, like one's big, one small, and it's like, don't ever go near me or my son again. So it's so dumb, and you could do that meme with anything. That was Martha, don't ever go near me or my son again, and what about you, goddamn it, not that son's like, fuck, they should have fallen off the cliff harder. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. So hum, it's not their fault that it's annoying. It's Martha's fault. It's Martha's fault. Yeah, it's not the kid's fault. No, I will never blame a kid for this. It's Martha and Alexandro probably because yeah, yeah, I'm just just like default, Yeah, sister. That tells her like, I wasn't trying to get to your son. I only did this because I couldn't get to you through to you, because you're using La Vista for your own purposes, which I know that you're worn about. She was multiple times Rosa. And then she tells her like, the reason we're here is because Rosa insisted that we do something, because you guys were taking too long to figure this out, that we're trying to reach out, and she's a willful child. And then you know, Martha looks and she's like child, wasn't a grown ass woman? But apparently she's only twelve. They just look different in the void the void, which is it interesting? The void makes them look like how much time has passed? I think so, Yeah, apparently she's only twelve. And Carmela has been telling Rosa all about Nana, all the stories, all Nana, yes, all the Nana Ti she did not forget her homegirl, and she's like, I'm telling your kid everything about you, and you know what, more power to Carmela. I love her. I love her, and so you know, she makes sure to tell her like you were loved, she loved you, she didn't want to leave you. And so then they don't know if Rosa's going to have this curse. They call it a curse, and I think it is a curse. I don't think it's a gift. It sounds there most of the time. So Rosa, They're like, we weren't sure if she was gonna have this curse yet. But then one day she found an encanto. And that's what confused me, because I'm like, Okay, then, what the hell isn't it Oh maybe, okay, hold on, plain your thought. First, she found her gift, I think something like that, Like I, yeah, how I was thinking of it as like you found in canto because you have no power over Laviista really, so then like the magic comes across you. So I'm not sure if it's like her exact power or as like a magical like enchant mint and when something magical happens, that's in canto. Yeah, that's how I came. Yeah, because she's in the kitchen and Lewista, she doesn't know what's happening, but Levista comes to her, and then the bunnies that we're gonna get cooked. All starts dancing or walking I remember, and it freaks everyone out and that's when they realize, okay, she has this too, and she joins Zakalare then and once she joined the Akalada, she's like, where's Nina. We need to find her, and so that's when they start looking for her. Martha asks sister Benedicta why Nana couldn't stay, and uh, the sister tells her, like, they can't exist in the timeline because if she doesn't exist, you wouldn't exist. Yeah, Drosa wouldn't exist. Like, yeah, Rosa is her grandmother's mother's mother's mother. I don't fucking know that's what the book said. Oh well, because yes, I'm like trying to think of it, but yeah, it's because Nana was in the past. So yeah, she's like a ancestor. Yes, yes. And so meanwhile Rosa and then are catching up, Rosa telling her about all about life and the convent, and then I was like, okay, but they're taking care of you, and Rosa's like, yes, this they are. She's so like, you know, she's so worried about her daughter. It's beautiful. Nana tells her that when she returned, I think only like half a day had passed for her, because her sisters find her and they're like, where were you this morning? Yeah? I hadn't been that long. Yeah, So honestly, like it seems like she went missing in the morning or at night, because she's woken about four am, right, and then she's gone like the rest of the day and told what it seems like she's back maybe late afternoon, like I had to call off for name. Yeah, yeah, and like she looks like shit when they find they find they find her she literally just gave birth. Her body looks like it. She's a wreck. Yeah, And she tells them I was in the past and they're like, you're crazy, and they put her in a home for the insane. Yeah, it's messed up, But again, it probably sounds crazy when you're hearing it right the first time, like what do you mean? But as Nana is telling Drossa what happened to her after, Martha is seeing all this as if she were there. I think it's because of La Bista, because at some point she's like, I don't want to see this. I don't want to be here, Like, yeah, I don't, because she's like experiencing almost from like Nana's point of view, it seems Nana large, of course experience. Oh of course I felt for Martha, even though I hate her. Nana has stretch marks. She literally looks like she's given birth, and when she tries to say this, like like her boobs are sore from the milk that she's supposed to be fading her baby, and she's written off as crazy. She goes to the home and she's like in and out of this insane home. Yeah, she starts seeing spirits like dead people, but then she yeah, and like I just wish that it dove into this. Yeah, like less Martha, more of this, I would have loved that. Yeah. Yes, So she doesn't want to be seeing these things, dealing with this, but she also doesn't want to go back to the home, so she tries to cope in her own way. She starts going to bars and huades, hooking up with men, drinking a ton. She never married, even though she has offers multiple offers because she's hot as fuck. Probably she can't sleep because when she does, she dreams of a baby that she forgot to feed or a kid that's cursing her horrible things. Yeah, and she spent years like this and I didn't like get into why. She finally is like I need to stop something. Something happens where she's like, I need to stop and like actually start living again, because this isn't living. Yeah. And so then finally Martha is herself again in the restaurant. She's not seen this through Nana's like point of view anymore. And sister Benitte that's says like, okay, it's time, like time for us to sing the song that will get you guys back home and us back home. But before that, she tells Martha that she needs to learn that La Vista will never do what she wants them to, that it's dangerous and if she's not careful, she can end up like Madre Inosenta and we know what happened to her. Yeah, And Nana is like, I've decided I want to go back to the convent, but she can't because of all the rules like of how time traveling now, yeah, like Nana and Martha won't exist. Yeah, she goes back and Nana said, she's like, why are these rules only apply to me? Yeah? And I almost cried for her there me too, because I'm like, girl, I feel you. Yeah, And sister Beneitta tells her like, I have only like I know, I seem like the bad guy gal lady, but I only ever wanted to protect my girls, the Aquilare members. And then I was like, well what about me, and says their sister b Is like I didn't know you were one of my girls, and I was like, oh my god, that's so sad. I really I really do wish like it would have been a little bit more fleshed out, like her life there their dynamics. But yeah, this was a beautiful scene I think because yeah, sister b she didn't do this on purpose either, like yeah, yeah, go ahead, yeah, Madnosenta is the one that brought in the not to them. Yeah. But also I think even if Madeono Centa like it would have happened anyway, because they were the ones that have the same gift their curse that she has, right and the only ones like working with it, really, it seems, and that's what ultimately they made. Reno Cente could sensed this in her yeah, and so you know, in the end, it wasn't anyone's fault. Really except Malonosenta, but honestly La Vista. Yeah, so you know this is it was very sad to see them like her like, okay, what about me? And then sister bes like I didn't know until it was too late, and yeah, that's it. Martha then tells Rosa, I'm gonna take care of your mom and that's the only good thing that Martha has ever said. Oh my god, and then their son back to their own time. Once they're back, the kitchen is a mess and the allegre has closed either talking about La Vista, Nana is like or yeah. Nana tells Marta she realizes now that Madre know Santa's greed for La Vista brought her to the past and that Sister b was just trying her best with what happened, trying to get everything back to normal. Yeah, and she knows it's not her fault either, because Martha's like, she didn't seem that bad, like you made her sound like the devil, and She's like, no, I know, I know now, like I see it now, and then she Nana tells mart that she she sorry for making her go through all this, and Martha is like pissed off, because Levista's gone. She wanted to use Leviista for her own powers, even though she knows that's wrong. Yeah. And then the kids and the husband walk in, They're like, wow, where's your tooth because apparently Martha lost a tooth and all this that was the tooth from earlier. Yes. Yes, and Martha, you know, none of this matters to her. She's just worried about the Vista being gone, how her relationship is going to change to the way it was before. They're too busy for each other, and like, immediately this happens. I don't know if they had plans or something, but I was like, well, I'm gonna be at work late by like yeah, And I think he even tells her, like, you look different a llure of Leviista's gone. Yeah, yeah, And so I mean, honestly, it kind of it's kind of messed up. Yeah. Then Martha goes back to work and Jackie that's her name, the hospital person, the hospital fundraising person. I thought Jackie was one of the workers there at the firm. Oh. Martha goes back to work and the hospital person there, hospital fundraising person from the fundraising event is there at her office and she thanks her for changing her mind because just made a huge donation to the hospital, and he said like, oh, this is because of Martha that I'm making this donation. And Martha has like no idea. She's like what say say what? Excuse me? Then the woman leaves. Martha runs over to her assistant and she's like, what the fuck just happened? Where are the recordings that Sophia was supposed to bring us? Where's the proof? And Linda's like, well, we got one recording, and she's like, because yeah, the recording they received was Sophia recording Martha, seeing that she was going to lift the curse if she provided the recordings. Martha fucked around and found out honestly, she really did and Linda's like, why did you do that? Oh? What are you doing? Yeah? And Martha's like, I'm sorry, it wasn't myself. It wass She really wasn't herself. And also because Linda's like why did you do that? Like you're so lucky that she didn't go complaint to the bar, like what are you doing? Yeah? But Sophia walks in after that and then she's like, I don't know, I don't remember what happens with the curse talk, but she does say she'll rejoin the case, so in the end is kind of what Martha wanted. Yeah, but she's like embarrassed because it's so embarrassing to be like, why did you do that? Wouldn't tell her? What did you make her think that you cursed her? And then you're like, I'll lift the curse. It's right her. Uh. Then Martha goes to Sea, who's like worried about her. She's like, I don't know what's going on with you, Like I'm worried. Martha tells her like, you know, I'm kind of glad that Lista's gone because I did something dumb at work because of it. Martha's like, it's not gone, or Nana tells her it's not gone, and then she's like sorry, and she's sorry because she's on her way, and I was like what who? And then Nana tells Martha like I did want to see Drossade again, but I wanted to meet her too. Martha's like meet who? And then it was like your daughter and then Martha is like, I'm too old. And Martha now realizes that the dark haired girl she has been seeing it's her, and I'm like, when did she see a girl? I don't remember this at all. I don't remember when it happens, and I don't know if it's like a dream or what. I don't remember. Well, I don't, like, I don't remember this at Allso I take and I even message you as I was finishing the book, and I was like, I'm so confused about the end. Yeah, yeah, I remember when she sees that girl, though, but I don't think it was clear you honestly don't care. Yeah, that's how it ends, right, Like that is the end, her telling her this and basically Nana saying you're not Lavisa's not done with you, like it brought you a baby basically, And I don't know how I feel about that. There's nothing more than and fucking surprise pregnancy. And you know what, like at the end of a romance, whatever it is expected is it's still annoying. Yes here, I'm like, what is the point? I guess like that the magic continues. It's like maybe because she only had boys again, right, and someone needed to continue in this line of to pass it on in the family. I think maybe that's why Lavista came back. Probably to make sure she got pregnant. Really, Martha has cousins, surely one of them has a daughter. Well, Nana didn't have kids. What Nana didn't have kids? That's on this power, is what you're saying. But Rosa in her own timeline goes on to have kids. Right. But my I'm confused. Yeah, you I don't know what you're saying, because like I feel like the what you're saying makes it seem like it can only be through Nana. Sorry, Nana. H Nana's like actual, Like I guess you would call it. Well, that's what I thought. By the end of this book. That is her great niece, Okay, her grand daughter. So I'm like, surely there's other women in the family that also had this magic is yeah thinking, so what was the point of this? I don't understand, right, But then how is Rosa hold On related to her? Because the sister Menda tells her Rosa is Nana's daughter. Yeah, but like, I don't know, she tells her she cannot say in the past because Rosa is her speaking to Martha, Rosa is her grandmother's mother's mother's mother. How does that make sense? I don't know. I don't know. I don't want to think about it. I'm over it. I'm over it. I do want to get into you have anything to say before you exist discussion questions, because again I don't care. I'm over it. I'm over it. I don't understand how they'ref iking related, and I'm tired of thinking about it because I hate Martha. I just want to find it out. I don't know what she sees this baby. I don't know. I don't remember that either. Okay, you're right, it doesn't matter, Okay, all right, First, a couple listener, Oh, I'm joining. A few messages we got. That was just like, I loved it, the timelines, the witches, I loved all of it. That was one sentiment. Another sentiment was no one answered the questions. They just gave their final thoughts. I like that. I'll take that. Yeah, me too, I'll take anything. Yeah. I think the structure was a bit jarring, so it's hard to get a rhythm like physically reading it was the other sentiment that was, like, the switches between the timelines were not smooth enough. Yeah. And that was like the feedback on this book, people who loved it or didn't really care for it because of the way it was written. Yeah. Do we share our thoughts now or do you want to answer the questions first? Let's took the questions first. I think that makes sense. Yeah, yeah, okay, So question number one. This book is set in at Paso, but in different time periods. It touches on al Paso's proximity to Huades, discussing a time when there was no border and a time after. Do you think this story could be set in another location and still maintain maintain the same meaning or was the central to the story. Maybe if it happened in another border town that's similar, I think you could have the same meaning. But just something about Apasso and the Pozo's rich history. I just don't see it happening in San Diego, Tijuana. You're right, No, you're right. I take back mands. I think the only places could happen is El Paso. Yeah. Yeah. And something I was reading about the author, he says, like el Paso itself has a lot of meaning, like it's a passing and they're passing. This is the name from one because of the name. Yeah, yeah, so like even the name El Paso is like central to the story. I hadn't thought of that part part of it, but that's true. Yeah, I don't think. Yeah, I don't think it would have been the same anywhere else. No, No, I don't think. So. I loved reading about El Paso in the Colonial Times and al Paso and what was it the fifteen world or two forty forty, Yeah, and even after because you know, we didn't really get into it. But it also talks about Nana becoming an adult or her sister's becoming adults, more grown up adults. I mean the restaurant that she owned. One of them became like that wasn't a politician, but something like that, the first Mexican woman to do something I don't remember what it was, Democrats something, it was like something political, right, So that was like super interesting to read about, and again really shows the contrast between the three sisters and really displays how different Nana is too. And I became of the neighborhood, yes, yeah, and they think she's crazy for it, but it serves its purpose, you know, she still serves her community. Yeah yeah, kept the rich traditions going, just like they did in different ways. Yeah yeah. And so in the end, they all were similar but they didn't see it again, Yeah, they really thought they were better than and then I don't know. Yeah, yeah, all right, what did you think of Martha? I'm sorry, okay, sorry, let me just already shared our thoughts. What did you think of Martha? Did she make any decisions that you didn't agree with? Would you have something done something different? Fuck Martha, she's just agnorted, she's annoying of done everything differently. I didn't agree with anything that she did. Because of who we are, I think we would have immediately jumped in with whatever Nana was saying. Like you said, you had a daughter in the past, let's go get her a bah, you say, let's make it right now, let's streak it. I don't care what it's made of, animals, animals in the Okay, yeah yeah, but I could see how someone logic rational and annoying. I understand the point of Martha's character. I don't think it was necessary. I think I would have preferred instead of just switching back and forth, maybe like following Nana's journey, or maybe it could have been gone in forces yout me, since you're doing this right now, I think it would have been better to go through all of Nana's life in the convent, everything, and then her getting back to her sisters them throwing her like dismissing her as being crazy, all the trouble she went through, basically all of Nena until she goes to Martha, and then we like learn very little about Martha, the least amount impossible. I was going to say, like, I don't. I think for me, the time jumping was fine. The point of view switched with Martha, Like I think we could have jumped back and forth in time, but kept Nana's point of view or perspective, you know what I mean. And then Martha chrisover purpose in helping her write like she did. But I didn't need to know Marta. Yeah, And at the end of it all, I do understand, like you're saying, Martha's purpose. Her purpose is to serve as the opposite of Nana in their belief systems, in their way of being in there, what drives them what, you know, they're completely different people and that's her role here, right, how because how would it be if Nana had so many exactly life I remember something, yeah, English class, right, that is her purpose? And also I need to show us like how would this affects someone who's this driven into their work this, you know, so I understand look at that. I understand it, but I don't like her. Oh I understand it. I don't respect that. Yeah. Yeah, and yeah, like we were saying, I would have completely been like, let's do this, Nana. I believe you. Yeah because I because we're also crazy. So m h. It's like that a meme where she's like, what is she doing at the grocery store. She's like, oh my god, I'm so crazy, and it's like them double sis, that's the grocery store. Yeah. I just realized that question number four is kind of similar to this one. Now the next one, number three, but oh you want to read this one. Yeah. The story is multi generational through Martha, a lawyer in her forties and then now her ninety three year old aunt, but we get multiple timelines. Oh wait, this kind of is similar. Anyway, How did you feel about this? Did you want more from certain characters? Did it add to the complexity or confusion of the plot? Like I said, we actually did kind of go into it. I wanted literally all of Nema and yeah, and like I said, I didn't mind the past and the present timeline, but I could have used less of Martha. Martha's inner monologues and thoughts like I didn't really like that. I think we could didn't care about our kids. I didn't care about her husband. Yeah, yeah, I didn't care. It would have been better if she meant some random guy and started doing him because of how rabbinish she was because our labistan than her husband, Like that would have been like fuck whole that. I would have actually kind of liked her more. But then she was been pregnant with someone else's guy. That's kind of life. I mean, you're right, else's kid, not guy on Yeah, yeah, okay, so yeah. We follow the book through Nana and Martha in different times, and both of them encountered Leavista. So did other people. Do you think the time periods they were in changed the way they interacted with Levista? I do, because I hadn't really thinen this. So Martha's in the future, She's in the now right now. It's a little more accessible for women to be the way she is more because you know, even like her husband's mom talks about her like you look to athletic. I'm like, damn, girls, that's true, and you know what, fuck her. Yes, yeah, I was aside from ones for once, just that moment. Let me be clear, just that moment. But you know Martha. Yeah, and the way society, even though it's nothing that is perfect right now, but the world that Martha is in now allows her to be who she is. I mean, she's a lawyer. Yeah, she's a work which is working mama. Yeah, she is a leader. Yeah, she likes insulting her clients. She's a bitch, and that's more acceptable even though it's still not there. But it's different than in Nana's own time, and even the women in the past imagine the colonial times. Yeah, who encountered Laviista. They were like limited with what they could do. But also La Bista itself is limiting, but nobody knows it until they have someone telling them, like, you really can't be doing this with Labista. Yeah right, But like the woman in the past, look at what happened to Marino Centa, the rest of them, what they're just like healing people with it. Really, Nana kind of also becomes that kind of person healing other people with it. And Marta is almost very made no senta, like if she hadn't stopped or if she didn't have Nana, I think she would have ended up like Maderino Senta. I think you're right. Yeah, so interesting. Yeah, sorry, this next one, there are all the questions like were so similar because I couldn't think of any and there was none out there, so my bad. Anyway, Lawista just did what it wanted. What did you think of the different characters interactions with it? Because Madarino, Senta, Sister, Benedicta, Emiliano, they all come in touch with it. Yeah, and what did what do you think you would have done with Labista? I have like a little like side question with this, Yeah, what did you think of like Laviista as a magical system overall? Oh, honestly, it kind of makes no sense, Like no, you know what, No, it does, like I mean like questioning myself in real time, like sometimes it happens like when we have like these episodes and where like as we retired, we're like wait wait no, That's why I love these because now that I think about it, Yeah, like what do you mean you can control this? You can't, Like it's nature. It's like nature and you can't control nature. It's this all magical, powerful thing, and why would you as a person, as a human be able to control it? Like, why would you have this gift and power? Like it just comes in towards as it wants. It does what it wants. You can use it a little bit, but not too much. So yeah, honestly, like that's why Mademulcente fucking got fucked up, like funck to shit up. Yeah, that's too much for her sister Benedicta and the others of Kenya, they're all respectful with it. They all like it's scary. It's a scary thing to be this strong, and so they know, like we can't fully be an it, like unlike my Lino sent them. Yeah, and and Mediano knows of it too, and it's like this magical thing. And I don't know if that plays into him wanting to be with Nan not in the first place. And then maybe it's wheary now that doesn't no longer, he doesn't have the strength anymore to like go off with her. I hadn't thought that. Yeah, it could be true. It could be. Eya changed her ways because of Leista, even though it fucking bucks her shit up her. She became a better person yeah, yeah, I agree with your everything. Yeah, I love the depiction of Labista. I thought it was a powerful way to depict magic, like as a force of nature, even with the animals that are involved in everything. Yeah, dude, that's that. Imagine seeing that shit, just animals are throwing themselves so their death in this fucking pot so that you can drink it later. Powerful. So yeah, I don't. I honestly, I don't know. I'm not like a driven ass fucking person like Martham, so I don't think I would be like her with Lewista. I don't think so either. Honestly, I think because I have a respectful fear of these things. Honestly, I don't think I would even touch it. I had someone like why, like Nana helped. Unless Nana was with me, I could do anything. Same same, Yeah, but definitely I don't think I would try to use it for my own gain or like whatever. Like there's a reason, no, you know, yeah, yeah, there's a reason. I'm not in corporate America and I'm actually kind of poor. Okay, Yeah, yeah, I'm not. I'm not built for corporate America either. No. Yeah, were you satisfied with the books outcome or did you have questions things that were left unanswered. I don't know how was satisfied, because again, and like the whole miracle pregnancy at forty fucking five, however fucking old, she is bullshit. I don't know if I like that. I think once you're talking about like, oh, because this is like that, I don't like the magic's gonna keep happening because she doesn't have any daughters or whatever, like I understand it in that sense. I don't know if it was beast. I just want to keep itself going. Yeah, it doesn't care about them. It's just like who is gonna see me now if no one else is here? Yeah, so I think that's why it happened, But I don't care for I didn't care for it either, because no, I didn't care for it. Also the law soup, Oh yeah, I forgot how it what happened with the law soup. I think there should have. I don't know if there should be an ending to it or not, like A yeah, because I didn't care because again I didn't care about Martha. Yeah, I'm sure she won and I understand why Rosa. Yeah, she probably did. She's driven. She probably did. Yeah, but I just I wish Rosa and I maybe had more time together. I don't know, I understand why they didn't. Actually, I feel like emotionally I did want them to spend more time together, but logically I understand why they couldn't. You know, they had to go back because it's the whole dimension whatever time thing. Yeah, and I felt like that piece was kind of like answered like I wasn't confused about that, no, it was yeah, yeah, I just wanted them to have each other longer because it was so sad. Yeah, yeah, all right, last question before the reading. The main characters of the book were all women. What did you think of the men in the story on how they were depicted? They all kind of sucked tall, like in different ways. Like we have father Duda whatever his name was, who's out here abusing the girls of the convent yep. I liked how he died. Yeah, I even mentioned that. Yeah, no, I thought you did. Said he got sick. I said, he gets sick, but yeah, here's a horrible death from the aness. Yeah yeah, that gets except the people that got saved with the backet. Yeah, yeah, Emiliano sucked. His dad sucked. Sucked. Alexandro sucks. He sucks the less out of them, but he's still, like we see it through Martha that he cares more about his own career. She even as himself and his career more than Martha, and yeah career, yeah, yeah, she even like mentions like before meeting him, she was on track to like me a prestigious lawyer and maybe one they even be at the Supreme Court. Right, And when she brings that up again, like wanting to do that, he's he like he's like thought, let go. Yeah, you know what My issue with the pregnancy is like they already have this dynamic right where, yeah, he's the one, his work is valued more than hers. He already is like that typical depiction of fathers that we see where they're kind of leave everything up to the mom. Not the worst kind of dad that we've seen, because again he still does things in the home, yeah, with the kid. But they're already kind of had the dynamic and this is just gonna get worse with the new baby, you know, right, yeah and another old yeah yeah, but yeah, I think the men were purposely written to be like trash. Yeah yeah, me too, I think yeah, yeah, not a single good man. Well, Nana's dad. I don't remember anything about him. Yeah, I don't think. I don't remember anything too bad about him. Just I remember that he got sick or injured or something. He couldn't worry. That's right, that's right, And then play and the mom dies, right or something. I don't remember the mom dying. I only remember that he was sick, and well they're both dead when we meet Nana. Yeah, sisters, I don't remember what happened on there. Yeah, but I want to say he was probably the best man in the book. Okay, Wow, I don't remember him at all, So he didn't make my recap, he did it? Okay, Okay, what do you rate the book? Well, I don't remember. Let me check my StoryGraph. Oh I don't remember either. Okay. I rate it three point seventy five interesting, which now it feels more like three and a half for me. But what's gone down? Because I because I'm at them, I'll leave it. I'll leave alone because that's how I saw at the time. Whatever, because I just love Nana. It was not it's not a bad book. I don't think it's bad. I think I would recommend it were there things that I wish were fleshed out more. Were there things that I wish were less focused on? Yeah, But I think overall it was an interesting read. Was bored reading it kept me hooked again. I love Nana. I wish Nana was my dea. So yeah, three point seventy five. Did I not rate it? I can't even find it well? Rate it on the spot? Well, I want to say I wrote anything about it. Oh wait, let me see if I wrote something. I don't really write reviews, but when i'm you know, when you enter the pages that you read, it has a little section where you can write notes. Yeah, I think I wrote some stuff there, but I think it's everything I kind of said. Okay, I wrote. I gave it four stars, okay, and I wrote beautifully written. Though I found myself more invested in nana story in the past than Martha's. And I love a multi generational story and this one has brucast time traveling. It was fun, but I think I couldn't do five because there were some things that I had a lot of issues with. Yeah, and that's why I couldn't do it four. That's why at three point twenty five. Yeah, I wouldn't read it again, and I would only recommend it specifically to anyone that literally is like, I'm here for Brucas and for time travel. Yeah, if you want both of those things in one book, that is the only reason I would recommend this book, because I wouldn't recommend it based on it being witchy alone, because like, honestly, I wish there was more WITCHI things, and I agree, I agree, I wish there was more. I loved how again, how La Vista is depicted. I wish there was more of it. I wish there was more witchy stuff. Like you said, I wish there was less of Marta like we both said. Yeah, but it was interesting. I love a historical fiction too, so yeah, peace was part of it. Was good. I wish there was more of it. I just wish we were in the past only I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah, I think I would recommend it just to see people, like, to see what they would think of it themselves. You don't have to tell me what you think of it, but I think, like, it's an interesting story. Like I didn't, I didn't hate it. I liked it. No, I liked it. Yeah, I liked it. It was I don't at all regret putting it on our book club list. It's an interesting read. It was fun, Yeah, but I was annoyed at Martha. I'm sorry. It was like she killed this book for me, and then so did her kids for and her husband anything about her that has to do with his writing. I just wanted to read about it, and then, like I if it was going to be Martha, I kind of wish that maybe she didn't have kids, and maybe this baby would have been her first pregnancy accidentally because of Labista, and that then we wouldn't have to deal with the kid falling off the cliff and me just not caring them, but also because then like what would explain the dynamic between her and her husband? I think it would have been more interesting. Yeah, and then suddenly there's this pregnancy and she's own damn. Like so I don't know, I'm just making up a new book. No you are, but no, honestly, four out of five rats going into the bit about but have the time, I can't even say that bit of a bit of a kaya. All right, Well, that was fun, actually had a lot of fun. I didn't know because I finished in January early January too, like very eighth, I saw a date. That's the only reason I remember, because I mean, I remember, I just thought, but it was early January that I finished it, so I hardly feel like I remember anything about it. So I really appreciate your recap. And I thought, because I didn't remember that much, I wouldn't have that much to say. But no, it was fun to talk about, I thought, because I didn't love every single And I understand you can't love. You're not going to love every single book that you read, but I so far have for the book club, every book has been more than five out of five for me. Yeah, but this was not. And so I was like, I don't even know do I even want to like? And it's so funny because you're talking about that makes it seem like you gave it like a two and gave it four on a five. Well I felt wrong to give it three points on buy for me, I don't know because the rest I already mean to you. I love to me. Yeah, me, it's me, even though it doesn't mean that really because two is more like I hated it. I feel like each person rating is different to them, you know. That's why I don't really even love ratings half the time. Yeah, I like to see people ones. I have words. I want to write more words, but I like also at the same time don't want to but I also like that, Oh my god. Yeah, So I honestly, I think if you're looking for something that's a little a little Mexican, a little Ruka, a little time travel, multi generational story, then yeah, but if you're looking for witch is only no, maybe you were. Maybe we're just Martha haters. Maybe you won't even hate we completely are like maybe other people like her. Why we need to stop. Yeah, it's soundurd the book for me though, Yeah, and it's funny because I think I find Nana written so well and Martha not. Yeah, and it was like, you can tell Martha's written by a man. Nina feels more fleshed out. And honestly, I read stuff about the book and the author says, Martha or Nana was a character from the beginning, and he had her all fleshed out, and he added Martha to give that opposite like type of view to Nanda. Wherever else you read about it, Oh yeah, there's a newspaper called the Matters, or if it's a library I can't tell, but they have an interview with him, and that's where I read that. Okay, I think what he talked about. Yeah, and I think you can tell she was as an afterthought and it's after. That is wrong to say, but she was at it after But I don't know. I just yeah, but yeah, that's the book. Now we've talked about this, Okay, two hours later, I agree. This always takes a lot. I know, picking our next book? Should we? Do you have any book in mind? I feel like I've picked them all? No, I picked this one. What are you talking about? You picked us one? Yeah, I kind of remember. I was like, we haven't done a witchy one. That's right. Okay, do you have a list anywhere? Like saved? I had a document o word donc But okay, what do we want to pick? A new book or an old book? Doesn't matter? What are your options? Well, because it's almost March, oh and March the Vanishing Daughters. By saying that playo or Bochica, which is I thought that was May? How was it? I thought it was March? Oh my god? It is May? All right? May will be our June should be Puchka for sure? Yes, I absolutely want to read that because yeah, we talked about this place in the podcast. Yeah, okay, so that's not the one coming out in May. Maybe we should do an the other one. We can do one new book. Let's do that. The Unworthy by Agustina basta Rica is one on my lists. It's dystopian. I feel like maybe we should do that one, just because I remember the cover looks so creepy. Let's do it. Okay, Okay, So yes, we have chosen the next book. It is The Unworthy by Agustina basta Rica and it is translated by Sarah Moses. I will not be reading in Spanish, and I will be reading the translated version because I can't read in Spanish. But here's the description. In the House of the Sacred Sisterhood, the unworthy live in fear of the superior sister whip seeding with resentment. They plot against each other on a way who will ascend to the level of the enlightened and who will suffer the next exemplary punishment, risking her life. One of the Unworthy keeps a diary in secret, solely memory surface from a time before the world collapsed, before the Sacrets Sishood became the only refuge. Then Lucia arrives. She too is unworthy, but she's different, and her arrival brings a single spark of hope to a world of darkness. Wow, it sounds cool. It does. The cover is also cool. Also, it's the same person who wrote Tender as a Flesh, Yes, which I loved. And again I don't know if love does the right word, but I enjoy. It's not also really the right word either. It was a book that means a lot. Yeah, yeah, so yeah, that's the next book. I'll add it to the book club list on STORYG I'll send out our newsletter when this comes out. Said it's kind of short too. Oh okay, maybe we can like about these books then, and me write these notes and maybe we'll have like one once a month and may chase any of the bye, finish it earlier. I'll start the notes. Okay, we'll see yes, And you know, we always say recommendations, like what book do you want to read? Yeah, because we'll do it. Mem that's to be a LATINX horror. That's it. That's the only requirement. Yeah, it could be a man too, it can it's yeah, I mean we write our first love this was Oh but yeah that that was our first man book. Yeah, this is our second man book. We also read men. Yeah look at us first okay, and yeah, this has been a book club episode. I hope everyone enjoyed it.
