It was on a Wednesday, February first, a day like any other when passengers on a commercial airplane were making their trip. No details were given as to where they were going in the article that I read, but that wouldn't matter. The important thing here is that they spotted something out the window. The sphere was a white balloon. On that same day, the former editor of the Billings Gazette in Montana also saw the object. The airspace around buildings was closed, so of course he was curious as to why. When he saw it, he thought it was one of two things, either a star or a UFO. He called up his friend Larry Mayer, who was a photographer for the same publication. He sent the images to government agencies, and then national media companies went in and the whole thing spread. You probably know where this story's going. It turned out to be a balloon that belonged to China, and it had been released for surveillance purposes of some kind. Although it was not aimed at the United States, it had apparently been an accident anyway. It was eventually shot down over the Atlantic Ocean by the United States Air Force. Now this didn't happen that long ago, right, but all of the country's tensions and political blame aside. However, it's an important issue that was coming up, and that was trust, as in do you trust the government to tell you the truth about objects in the sky. In this episode, we will take a step back in time to look at the existence of aliens in UFOs and how we've dealt with them as humans. Not just a series of events, but a real look at what's been going on in our skies. My name is Edwin, and here it's a dark memory. The most famous case of an unidentified flying object was the one in Roswell. The story goes that in nineteen forty seven there was a mysterious crash one that happened out in a field in the middle of nowhere. The wreckage was approached by the Air Force right away and they just took it without explaining anything to anyone. People that witnessed the whole thing were saying that it was an alien spacecraft that had crashed down and the government was trying to hide it. Only part of that was true, though. I don't know about you, but I recently found out about Project Mogul, which was one of the programs during the Cold War this UFO thing was actually just a balloon, one that was part of the early projects that were using the space in her atmosphere known as near space, the same space that China is now exploring. The concept of near space is really interesting to me. It's that area above where regular aircraft fly, but not quite in space. That specific area has a lower pressure and lower density, lower temperature, something that allows missiles and other weapons or tools from overheating, to travel faster and to do their thing in an environment that's better suited. Anyway, the United States government did not want the information about this secret project going public, so they just let the theory about aliens spread, and as we all know, it was a tough one to stop. But even before the Roswell incidents, like way before, people had already seen object in the sky, back when there were no weather balloons and no airplanes. So that brings up the question what were they seeing up there back when our ancestors found shelter in caves, even back to twelve thousand years ago, there have been subtle hints that UFOs have been with us. Drawings of the saucer or flying looking objects would appear on the walls of caves. Why were they there? In searching for some of these, I found a lot of photographs of drawings made in Spain and in other places of Europe. I was shocked to see these bizarre looking figures drawn into tall canyon walls. When I looked more into it, I found that they were here in the United States, in the southwest region of this country, the area surrounding the Colorado Plateau. Andrew Gulliford, from Humanities magazine of the National Endowment for the Humanities has taken trips to the Colorado Plateau and gone off road. He's hiked to photograph these images of eerie, elongated figures with short arms and legs. I guess the word for these hu human figures as anthropomorphs. And there were in the corners of these tall canyon walls, and they had no ears or noses, and only about a quarter of them had eyes. Around these figures they found beautifully painted birds and other animals, but some of these other things were eyeballs with wings flying around. The most famous of these drawings is called the Holy Ghost group, and if you look it up, you'll see a series of figures human like silhouettes surrounding a tall version of them with a little more detail. What were they trying to communicate or commemorate. In the publication Times of India, they brought up a similar mystery. Rushmidrolia wrote about ten thousand year old rock paintings that are said to be of aliens and UFOs in the Tribal Bastar region within Kinker District. The drawings show elongated figures with thin limbs, but in this case they tied to a ancient beliefs among the locals. Some of these stories from their ancestors talk about the Rohella people, which means something like the small sized ones. The Roella people used to land from the sky in circular flying objects and they would actually take one or two members of the village. Unfortunately, those people would never be seen again. These drawings have figures holding objects, although nobody can say exactly what they are, and again, their nose and mouths are missing, and some of the drawings they are even wearing space suits. There are also some spacecraft looking objects the sphere with three antenna like legs that are also drawn right on those walls. According to archaeologist J. R. Bogget, traces of these stories are still being passed down, but mentions that we should also be aware that US has huge Humans have always liked using our imaginations. Therefore we come up with stories and creatures that we have not seen. Were they witnesses or were they using drawings to keep their stories alive? Following along with the skepticism brought on by this archaeologist, I need to mention something that you've probably heard of, the ancient astronaut. If you kept up with UFOs and theories about aliens, you have likely come across this thing. You see in Spain. There is a cathedral in Salamanca. This is known as Catedral Neuva, and it has this figure on it. It's an astronaut wearing a helmet. It has the boots and even the oxygen and pressure equipment, and it's carved. It looks like one of those ancient things that you see carved on the exterior side of a wall, and this is exactly what it is. However, this cathedral was worked on between fifteen thirteen and seventeen thirty three. So did they predict the future? No? I was as disappointed as you are, But it turns out that the cathedral underwent restoration projects over the years. The Astronaut was added around nineteen ninety two and was there as a symbol of modern accomplishments. And there is another one of these classics, like the Nasca mummies, mummified human remains that did not seem human at all. It just turned out to be the result of looters damaging old tombs, taking body parts of one mummy and putting them on another. Laws have been put in place to try to prevent this type of practice from continuing, but it's still an ongoing thing. It seems that no matter where we turn, the proof that we have from ancient records has an explanation that counters the idea of aliens visiting Earth and that it did not actually happen. I'm sure that if you spend an evening watching Ancient Aliens on the History Channel, you might start to get convinced that much of the technology that we have today and why the human race was able to advance so much in such a short amount of time, was because of the help from outside of this world. But if this information is the truth, it would revolutionize everything we know. Governments would be on top of it, and archaeological research as we know it would take another turn, and yet it hasn't. Still, it's important to note that just recently, the United States Pentagon released an unclassified document called the twenty twenty two Annual Report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, and it came through the Office of the Director of National Intelligence where they go over some of these bizarre UFO encounters and it's real from the government website. I'll linked to it in the description of this episode. But when I read it, I was like, Okay, this is just a bunch of cases, but they all end with something like they remain uncharacterized and unattributed. They also don't mention anything about aliens, only a vague we don't know what this was. Obviously, this triggered a whole other sense of curiosity, and it made me think of that video of an object flying over what looks like right over the sea. You've probably seen it. It's a video that was officially declassified recently, and it show's aircraft without wings and it's flying at hypersonic speeds. And get this, the US Navy officially recognizes that its pilots encountered unidentified aerial phenomena. There were three sightings in total taking place in November two thousand and four, and in January of twenty fifteen, Navy pilot Lieutenant Danny Acoyn said that FA eighteen Hornet fighter pilots encountered them during the training exercises and restricted airspace. According to History Channels unidentified inside America's UFO investigation. To this day, there is no official explanation as to what this was, or maybe there is. We've covered other topics in this podcast about encounters that were witnessed and studied by more than one person that really makes you question if it's only civilians that believe aliens are out there. Some of the following events have never been talked about in this show, but I guarantee you they will make you question what we've been told. I'll share that with you up next. Stay with me. There is a book called Extra Terrestrial, The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth, written by Harvard's top astronomer and astrophysicist. I still haven't finished the book, but the backstory is real and very intriguing. Here's what happened. It was October nineteenth, twenty seventeen, and a Canadian astronomer happened to catch something in the images he was reviewing some from this very powerful telescope in Hawaii. This was a very regular thing, and they would get to see objects zooming past the Earth at around forty thousand miles per hour. But this thing, a tiny dot of light, was moving at almost two hundred thousand miles per hour. Now this was unusual. So he called up his colleagues and asked them to track it from other observatories, and they did, only to become even more puzzled by what they were seeing. This object supposedly was as big as a city block, so relatively small or even nanosized when you're talking about space objects. They called it one Eye twenty seventeen U one. It was later known as oh Mua mua, which is like saying scout in Hawaiian. By the way, this information is from an article published in The New Yorker by Elizabeth Colbert. First, let's get some sciencey stuff out of the way. Objects in space move as they're being pulled by gravity or propelled into their speed by an initial force. There are other ways that objects move out in space, like with comments that have their own gas. And you can tell because comments leave a trail of it, like a tail. When small objects out in space passed by a large mass, they kind of curve a little bit as they continue on their journey through space. Well, this particular object did not have a tail. It was traveling much faster, and it was not moving in some elliptical path around the Sun like other objects. Instead, it was going in an almost straight line. NASA stepped in and was like, well, this is definitely an unusual object. But they couldn't see it anymore. The thing was too small and far away, so we can't find it. And that's where the author of this book I mentioned on extraterrestrials comes in. Avi loeb Avi was the one who said what I'm assuming others were thinking, Oh, Muamua did not behave as an interstellar object would be expected to because it came from an alien civilization. He really opened up to controversy. Articles from the Smithsonian, from Scientific American and other well respected publications obviously wanted to push the story. I mean, this was a pretty bold statement from a very knowledgeable person, so they would title it like and he's not kidding, or pose his statement as a question instead of, you know, an actual article, therefore opening up a debate. This guy knows what he's talking about. He's done research on black holes, gamma ray bursts, and stuff on the early universe. This is the same guy that's involved in Breakthrough Starshot, a project that is literally a voyage through the universe to get to Proximusenturi and reach over one hundred and thirty million miles per hour. Say what you want about AVI, but even through all the ridicule in the scientific community, he has doubled down on it, providing theories as to what this nano object was and who would have made it. Essentially, it was like a large blanket or a sale, one that would guide the interstellar object through the universe and propel itself with solar radiation. It's strange to think that an object propelled by a sale is exactly what they're making over at Breakthrough Starshot. It's like some sort of interdimensional trip through space and time, perhaps quite literally. I mean, maybe they already launched that project in another dimension and that's what they happened to see. Now I don't know, just an idea, you know. It was interesting to find out how that project came to being that was funded by a multi billionaire and also includes a board member you might be familiar with, Mark Zuckerberg. I mean, it's pretty well known that the ultra rich people are fascinated with space and what is out there, with Elon Musk's SpaceX, Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin, and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic. Through NASA's studies, it has been estimated that there are between one and a half to two point four billion planets that could harbor life. In theory, one of NASA's chief scientists at the time, Ellen Staufen, said that she believed definitive evidence of life beyond Earth would be found in the next two decades. But why haven't we found evidence yet? Well, we do have some theories. Ferme's paradox, which was brought up by Enrico Fermi about seventy years ago, suggests that there for sure has to be a civilization out there that is advanced enough want to colonize just about every place in the galaxy. That were the case, we should also be able to see aliens everywhere, right, However, he suggests that we are being isolated on purpose. This explanation solves the mystery of why we have not gotten any response from the radio signal scientists have been sending in hope that aliens would get back to us. The idea here is that they should get back to us unless we don't matter, and then they'll just ignore us. And that's what this is about. If you're an advanced alien and see this group of creatures from planet Earth trying to communicate, we are simply just not important enough. Supposedly they might come by and check up on us. Though this might explain some of the encounters we have documentation on, like Betty and Barney Hill's encounter Lights over Phoenix, the Battle of la and Lights over the Great Lakes, like on the show on Solve Mysteries, and trying to find more explanations for if there are beings outside of Earth that travel around in spaceships, you know, some that bump into us every once in a while. They've found too many stories and theories, clubs, organizations and people who have dedicated their lives to finding an answer. Though I have thought that perhaps they already found an answer and presented it to us, but we still deny it. I mean, looking back through history, we encounter person after person making these amazing discoveries, only to be shut down for them sounding to outrages and crazy. I must have been ten years old standing in the front yard with my dad when I pointed out something flying in the sky. Now, this is a true story, so don't get ahead of me here. It's practice to how embarrassing it feels to share things like this anyway. I remember it being a black dot hovering like an airplane above us. But my dad was finally able to catch sight of it. You know how difficult it can be to spot an object in the blue sky. He said that, yeah, it looked weird, that it probably wasn't an airplane. We were practically staring at this thing when suddenly it turned into a stripe of red light and then disappeared. We both turned to look at each other and he was like, yeah, that was probably something from outside this planet. Later on that day we heard about sightings on the radio. Had we seen a real life alien spacecraft? I don't know. It seems a little bit easier to just deny it. But people from the past have written things like this, describing them as early as fourteen forty BC. Something like fiery disks in ancient Egypt or like flamelike wine jars from the sky in the Roman Republic as a battle was about to be by the way, both sides apparently saw these silvery objects in the sky, or more recently in eighteen eighty three and Sacateca's Observatory, Mexico when Jose Boniica spot it unidentified objects crossing the sun while observing sun spot activity. Or the Ufo incident in eighteen ninety seven where they say that an airship crash and the alien that was piloting it was buried in the local cemetery, the Mariana Ufo incident, the Flatwoods Monster, the Night of the UFOs in Brazil, the Dudley Dorito, and if you want to learn more about these, just let me know. I love this type of material, although it's vast, but it lets the mind wander, something that I feel is one of the reasons to be here on this planet, to be able to just look up at the sky and wonder, just like our ancestors thousands and thousands of years ago did, wondering what's out there.
