What is Tarot?

We're getting myschical, and I know you're kind of scared of tarot. So that's all that stuff that's or tarot. It's either taro or tarro, depending on who or what. That's Why do you say that? Because I heard it pronounced that. I was trying to look it up right now because when in one of those stories that hold on, they have to play right now, tarot, that's what she says. Yeah, so I pronounce it tarot, but other people pronounce it like tarro. I thought, no, that's it's because it's French. You don't pronounce the tea and it's definitely not tarott. Sadly, her grandma had died, like she just refused to take her medicines and she she died. So that's why she was like, ah man, it wasn't her time yet, Like this sucks. Anyway, she was watching this person on video doing taro, and all of a sudden, she says, she stops. Wait, this was on true Scary Story, right, True Scary Story. Yeah, okay, cool. She was saying she was watching it and then all of a sudden she says, Okay, he's this guy who says, okay, I feel like this is an ancestor speaking to someone named Brie and they call you honey or honeybee. And this person was telling me the story, says, my name is Brianna or Brianna and my grandma called me honey bee. So she started on the spot this during the recording right like she starts crying. She said, it was a like a just a visceral experience. Wow, like your grandma's there with you now. I've also heard of people telling stories of oracle cards, not necessarily terarot cards, which are a little bit different, and they start getting answers to things because I didn't know you could ask things. Oh yeah, but that's when I started like that. It creeped me out because of some of the things that were saying. They're like, something's here with you, but they're saying something you don't want to hear, so maybe you don't want to tell you and they don't and they say, okay, I don't want to hear it, and they just don't hear it. I'm like, I don't know, but Michelle, even astrology creeps me out, Like you know, I'm very like, how is that true? How do you know that about me? Look, look, if nothing else, we're here to open your mind today. And when because we're doing the history of taro. Whoo, and at the end, I'm going to give you a little tarot reading. What from my collection of tarot cards. It's like collect tarot cards, so you're getting a little tarot reading. Yeah, whoa, okay, Okay, here we go. I also think just in the way I think you hearing about it might also and the audience if you're freaked out by taro. Here's the history of tarot, and I think it'll make it less freaky. Number one, it started as a fucking card game in the fourteenth century. That's like bridge. What it was called taroke in Italy and which like the gentry played. It was like bridge, you know, so the minor arcana and then you get the major arcana. So these are twenty two cards and they're like the ones that we know is like the Magician, the Empress, the Emperor, you know, like they're the devil cards in there, the Tower card, Death, all the fool all those cards are in there. And those were called trump cards or triumph cards. Fun fact about me, I'm not good at game rules. I think I reached my capacity as a child, and I know GoFish or solitaire and Speed, and those are the only ones I know and I can, yeah, I remember Speed. I for the life of me. The idea of learning Bridge, I can't. I don't know how, I don't know what, but it sounded similar to war. You play with four people and you put cards down, and whoever puts down the biggest card wins or the specific card. And so these trump cards that are the major arcana would be put down and they'd be the most points, and the whole point of the game is to get the most points, like it's just a card game. The rich people that were playing these games would get the major arcano custom created, and it could be people that you knew. It would be like, oh, Aunt Susan custom cards, Like they didn't have like really specific meetings, and they were also kind of like they'd reference the church. They were meant to be beautiful, beautiful card game. Okay. At the time, I kind of thought like, okay, so maybe not quite like Pokemon, where like you collect them, but like there's a standard. Yeah, it's like a status thing. They're definitely like gilded in gold, that type of thing, like expensive you'd hire an artist. But I mean, like even now, the art of Tarot's great. Like I've collected tarot cards for a while because I just love the different art that's on it. Like there's a lot of cool like different decks. Yeah, different decks. I have different decks. So anyway, the taraoarchy game from Italy moved to southern France and became taro the French word, so that's how it got it. And so like the cards always carried fanciful designs, kind of cool like artwork like the like death, the hanged van, the tower. You know, they always had those, but they just didn't have any meanings. So MacB it's so macab but also like it's just funny because it was like they're just arbitrary. They're just like, oh, like church symbols or they're accustomed to whoever owns the deck of cards or whatever. So tara didn't carry any occult meanings until the eighteenth century and in seventeen eighty one, a French freemason, it says former Protestant minister because of course, Anton Court de Jeboulon, published a complex analysis of taro, in which he revealed that the symbol of the tarot was in fact derived from esoteric secrets of Egyptian priests, and de Jebolon went on to explain that this ancient occult knowledge had been carried to Rome and revealed to the Catholic Church, and the popes desperately wanted to keep the arcade knowledge's secret. In his book that he wrote, Taro and the Symbolism of Taro, he connects the artwork to isis Osyrus and other Egyptian god But the thing about Dejebolong's work is that there's no historical evidence to support it. Like there's nothing. I'm wow, yeah, like there's no he made I mean, I don't want to, I don't want to say he made this up, but you know, he definitely took some liberties and interpreting, interpreting this stuff into being like esoteric magical things. However, this didn't stop wealthy Europeans for being all over this, and they jumped on the esoteric knowledge. Padwickon and like course of course, oh yeah, began to produce Tarot decks specifically based on dejas Boulon's analysis, and then in seventeen ninety one, Jean Baptiste at a French occultist, I'm sorry, I'm just so glad you're saying it, because that would have just been like Jean Jean Baptiste No. Jean Baptiste Edit, a French occultist, released his first tarot deck. He based a lot of the symbolism off Cabala, which is like an esoteric offshoot of Judaism. So it's like a lot of symbolism on the tarot cards now comes from that. And and he incorporated more secrets of hermatic mysticism, so he like changed up like the images so like there is more symbolism in them. Now, can you tell me what divination is? Okay? So devination is like a tool to like predict the future, or it's like predict you can predict, but it's more like helps you. I think tarot cards help you just decide what to do a lot of the times, Like it helps you get into that like little voice that's like like I think that's what devination is for most of the time. Like yes, you can be like, oh, I'm going to see in a crystal ball and I'm going to see the future, and like that's like like kind of the traditional sense of devnation. But I think devination and like a lot of the stuff that when it's helpful. It's just helping you get to your intuition and be like, oh, yeah, this does make me feel weird, or this doesn't make me feel weird, or this is a yes and this is a no, and I can tell the difference. Like it helps you decide within you what that is. So it's something that you have to like practice. Yeah, it's a practicing thing, and it helps, like if you don't know inside like what yes or no feels like, because I don't think a lot of us do a lot of the time. It helps with that. So, like it helps you start to understand how your body reacts to like oh, yeah, I should do that or no I should Like that's a terrible idea. Yeah, it's it's like a way to train your gut. I use it as a way to train my gut. So, like the thing about devonation, right, Like it can be anything like if you want to throw your shoe across the room and if it lands right side up, if it lands right side up, like that means yes. And then if it like lands upside down and that means no, that can be devination. Yeah. I think it was just my sister and I who used to play around with stuff like that. It's like, Okay, yeah, if this and this happens, then we're gonna tell my mom this. If not, then we keep it a secret. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's like flipping a coin. I don't know how to read tea leaves, but I mean that's like a simple thing. And cultures read tea leaves and they'll be like, oh, this means you're gonna get married to so and so or whatever. You know, like people have always tried to predict what's gonna happen. You want like Simpson's tarot cards. You want like Lord of the Rings tarot cards, and there you go buying them all. No. I mean I really wanted those Simpson tarot cards, but they were just like impossible to get. So that's what it can send you for your birthday. Also, I love that a woman did it now. This is used as the default deck for nearly all institutional books on tarot. So basically, if you want to get your Beyonce deck, or you want to get your pop Star deck or whatever, your iron Man deck, it'll all be based on the writer Waight Smith deck of tarot. And does it matter which ones you use? Like, does it affect? I say, just use whatever you feel connected to. In theory, you're supposed to be given tarot, you're not supposed to pick out your own. Yeah, yeah, they are the Morgan Greer tear so they're based on on the Right Way of Smith of course, but they were made in the seventies and have like cool cool, they're cool. So anyway, we're gonna do three card pull and so basically it's it's simple. It's just like past current future. So that's all we're gonna do. But what I'm gonna do is spread the cards out and then I'm just gonna hover my hand over and you can just just say stop and I'll grab the card. Okay, so we'll just do that.
