The Hallway Thing: Decades of Unexplained Activity

The Hallway Thing: Decades of Unexplained Activity

In this true scary story, Evelyn has lived in the same house since early childhood, and for as long as they can remember, something has lived there with them. Strange sounds, unseen movement, animals refusing to enter certain spaces… all leading to one moment that still makes their heart race years later.
What happened in the middle of an ordinary afternoon shattered every rational explanation and left behind physical proof that something in the house can act with intent.

It looked exactly like what I saw the first time, but it almost looked bigger, like almost like it grew up. For as long as Evelyn can remember, something has lived in their family's house with them, and in the middle of an ordinary afternoon, something changed. My name is Edwin, and here is Evelyn. It's true scary story. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. My family immigrated here from Cuba. Growing up, I lived in my grandma's house because our house wasn't yet built. My parents ended up buying this one house while it was still in construction, so they saw the whole construction process and everything. After a few years of being in that house, there would be moments where I, as a kid, would just be like something scary here. There were like certain parts of the house, like corners that I just refused to go near, and I just did not like it, but I never knew why. The first time that I genuinely remember like something that like I just can't explain was many years after that, when I was around twelve years old. Back then, I used to sleep with my bedroom door open. My room was right next to my younger brother's room, who was like six at the time, just in case, like my parents didn't hear him, like crying or fussing in the room. I left my room open so I could hear him. One night, I just woke up randomly in the middle of the night. I do that, and I went to the restroom. I came back and you know, I'm laying down trying to go back to sleep, and I hear like scratching, almost like nails on the ground. And at this point we had a dog. Her name was Lizzie. She was like a Chihuahua mixed mutt thing that we found on the street. I was like, oh, no, Lizzie got out of her crate. I sat up and I looked and I'm calling her name. I'm like, Lizzy, Lizzy, Lizzie. I don't see anything. So it was like I heard her, but I didn't see her. And it wasn't until like a couple minutes after I said, she's not calming, Like in my own head, I'm like, where is she? I see the math. It looks like about the size of what my dog was. It was just a small creature with a lot of hair, to the point where you couldn't see any features beside long brownie gray hair just in the corner of the doorway. Even when I'm connected with the dogs, I still said Lizzy, like in a question, like questioning, like is that actually her? It was like in slow motion. It like moves almost like if it was gonna look at me, but I didn't see anything besides long hair and like a pitch black nose. And then it like slow motions like ramp into my brother's room, and almost like at the same moment my brother started crying. I jumped out of my liked and I'm like screaming for my mom and my dad and I ran to my brother's room, turned on the light. There was nothing there. He was hysterically crying. And my dad comes in and he's like, what's going on? And I'm like, I don't know. I saw something, but I don't know what I saw. That was the first time and the last time I ever slept with my door open. I still sleep with my door closed, and I positioned my bed to like be able to see my entire room, including the door, just in case anything shows up or or anything happens. I have like a whole view of my room. I was very as a kid, no creepy. I don't like it, so for that to happen like freaks me out to the point where, like I couldn't even sleep. To this day, I can't sleep without the television on. I sleep every night with like a random YouTube video or a podcast playing in the background on my TV. I cannot sleep in par silence anymore because of that. And that was when I was twelve and I'm currently twenty eight, so it's been a while. A few other times I had seen things. I can't tell if this when sleep paralysis or this really did happen. It wasn't the middle of the night at this point. I was literally like asleep earlier. So I fell asleep at around nine pm and woke up like around eleven. And I wake up and there's just this shape above the frame of my closet, which is like right in front of my bed. The best way I can explain it is like a deformed black panther, Like it was just a shadow of a panther, but it was like the face was deformed, and it was like long. It almost looked like ass techie on drawings that sometimes are a little like like adult would be like the body would be super long and like the clause would be like astronomically large, like that's what I saw. But it was a shadow, like on the wall, and I scream and I remember my mom coming in turning on the light, and as soon as the lights came on, the shadow left, and the entire night, I just spent the whole night trying to recreate that shadow, and I was never able to. I tried to tell my mom and my dad. My dad is very Christian. He believed it, but he didn't think it would be in the house because it's like a religious house and there's no way that it can be there. My mom is Catholic, so I grew up around both religions. My mom was more inclined to believe it, just because as a child she would see things and she played with a wigi board back when she because she went from Cuba to Spain. In Spain, her and her friends would play with wigi boards and she was very into like the creepy and the like unexplained and stuff like that. And I never was. I was not that type of person. And my dad hates anything scary. My dad was very like no, no, no, and then my mom was like okay, but this could be happening. This was probably when I was sixteen years old. Now, so I'm in high school. It's summer break, I'm home. My mom's working, so I'm with my brother and he's in his room. I was sitting down on my bed. This is the middle of the day. No like witching out or no nothing. It's like two PM. I'm watching TV and my TV was on top of my dresser. It has my PlayStation next to it, and then behind the PlayStation, I had a little like nerf ball toy that has like the ones, the hoops that you can hang on the wall, the little ones. That's what I had. Because I would get bored and I would just kind of like while I'm in bed, I would throw it. But I kept the ball behind my TV. It was just there. Nothing ever happened. And I'm there watching TV, and all of a sudden, the ball is thrown from behind my TV across my room, hits the wall and like flies from the wall all the way to the other side of my room, hits my metal closet, falls on the ground, and then rolls to the middle of my floor and just stays there. I did not believe that that just happened, because you can always say like, oh I saw something, but you could always say, oh, maybe you were too sleepy, maybe you were this, maybe you were that. But this is in the middle of the day, there's no fan, the air conditioning is on. But there's no way that it could have thrown a ball twice. And it was so hard that my metal closet had a dent where the ball hit. I just sat there and I didn't know what to say. I was like in shock. And the first thing I did was I called my brother through my phone. I didn't even get off my bed. I called my brother on the phone, who's right next to me, like in the other room, and I told him, I need you to come in here, and I need you to help me with something. He walks in and I'm like, I tell him the story, and the boss still sitting in the middle of the floor. So he goes up, he grabs it, and he puts it back where it is. We start trying to explain the whole thing away. Okay, let's see the air conditioner. Let's turn it on real quick to see if like it does anything. We did that it didn't work, like the ball stayed where it was originally. We grabbed the leveler where you see like construction workers see if the surface is leveled. We had one and we put it on the desk, perfectly leveled. There was wires and stuff that was like in the way from it to just roll off. And again it was thrown with a lot of force that it like sounded hard and it made a dent in my closet, so it wasn't like it just rolled off. My brother was like, Okay, I'm gonna try to recreate that throat because if it was let's say a spirit or something that through it, I should be able to do that too. And he tried. I don't know how many times he threw the ball at the wall. Every time the ball hit the wall, it would just fall on the ground. It would never fly across the room to the closet. So we could never explain that away. And to this day, I still think about that and like gives me goosebumps, like chills, like it's one of those things that like I hope never happens to me again, but then at the same time, like I hope it happens while someone else is there, so I'm not the only one that witnessed this because I couldn't believe what was happening. That type of stuff was just not something that I was used to seeing. My head was in the path if I was to sit up when it hit the closet, So I don't know what it's trying to hurt, but if I was sitting up just a little bit, it would have hit me one hundred percent. And it made a debt in the metal closet, so that definitely would have hurt a lot. My mom around the same time, was hearing things. She would, you know, be in the kitchen or in the living room with her computer just typing, and then she would hear me calling her back. Then she was very into like the whole like supernatural and Ouiji boards and stuff, so she knew she was not going to answer. It's the middle of the day. I should have either been in school or out with friends. She knew I wasn't home, so she would get up and go, and she would always say that it sounded like it was coming from my room, So she would walk all the way to my room and like open the door and there's no one there. I'm not there. My brother's not home, either we're both out or we're in school. She asked one of her friends, who's very sensitive to this type of thing, like kind of like a medium, but she can't communicate it. She just gets like feelings, and she said that while she was walking around the house, it was like she felt welcomed, like she was, but it was more like you're allowed to be here, behave yourself. Like that's literally what she said. She's like, it's almost like if I misbehave or if I do something, I'm not welcomed. I've had people say that in the past. Like the guest bedrooms in the front of the house, and then there's a thirty two foot long hallway to the rest of the house, so it's a very long hallway and there's like a night light. I had friends literally tell me that slept over. I'm like, I'm not walking down the hallway at night. I can't. Every time I walk down there, I feel this like pressure in the house, this heavy, like hard to breathe type of pressure. I don't know what it could be, but it's definitely not normal. I still live in the same house and I still sleep in the same room where all of this happened. Even to this day, we'll have like noises that we hear all the time. I remember one time it was Thanksgiving. I had like a plate of food for my dog because they always eat Thanksgiving with us. So I was going around the backyard by seeing my dogs like thanksgiving me on the ground. As I'm standing back up, I see what I saw in the first story, but it almost looked bigger, almost like it grew up on the roof of my house. It looked like me and you. It looked like it had like a cloak of fur on it. It looked like this long skinny thing I saw like arms like In the first time I ever saw it, it was just a ball of fur. The second time I saw it on the roof, it looked like if it was a very skinny person wearing The ball of fur that I saw was standing on the top part of like where I can see it, and then it clawed over to the other side where I can't see it. I told my mom, and that same night she like blects the house and like took down some palm trains and like put them into a cross and like hung them on every door and every window. Because that was the second time that I saw something like that. It's a very weird house. And the thing is, no matter how much I researched about this house, there's nothing. We were the first owners to live there. The house was literally being constructed while we were like purchasing it. The land was literally just a field. There was nothing there before, and no one owned the house prior to that. And the neighborhood. I think it's also just the neighborhood. The amount of black rabbits that have shown up in my backyard. Like rabbits, I lived in a neighborhood with a bunch of houses. It's not like there's a forest nearby. Like I've seen rabbits in my backyard, my fence in black backyard. I've seen black cats in my backyard, vultures in my backyard talk. It's like every animal just conjugates to my house and they don't leap. It takes enormously hard time for me to actually for my dad or my mom to get these animals to stop coming to my house. My dog Lizzie at the time, she was a fully black kuawa that was showed up at our house. It didn't make sense because, mind you Our house is also at the very end of the neighborhood, so these animals would have to skip and walk past other houses and like and just land right there at the end of the neighbor and be in our house and in our yard. There was a pig one time that just showed up in front of my house. A pig, a black pig, showed up in front of my house, and then we asked the neighbors to see the cameras. There was nothing like we were looking. There was no pig that walked all the way over there. There was no motion detected. And it's the neighbors right next to us, So if the animals were to like show up in our house, they would have had to pass by my neighbor's house to get to my house, and no motion or anything was ever detected. The house just feels different for some reason, even though all of the houses around us were built at the same time and look and have the floor plan exactly the same. I've seen the floor plan of my house and the floorplan of every other house around me like I have it with me. Every house supposed to be the same size, But like I said before, my house has a thirty two foot long hallway. No other house that was built by the same company in the same time at the same time has that thirty two foot long hallway. Every time we have a neighbor come into the house, they're like it's one of those like funfares where you walk in and it's like there's a clown car where Like it's more spacious than it looks because no other neighbor has that hallway. My steilings go up to like I think the tallest point in my house is like thirty two feet thirty something. It's always thirty something too, It's always like thirty two thirty eight. It's like even divisibles. We're the only house in the entire neighborhood that has that, but from the outside looks exactly the same as everything else. As I got older, I started to like hear more things like I was the first kid in my house to go to college, my brother was in middle school, my mom she was at work. My dad and my mom they split, and then my dad it's still around, but he just lived somewhere else. There would be days where I'm home alone for the whole day and I would hear my name being called from random spots in the house, and I would think it was me hearing things, But then my dog would also react. And my dog never growled their barks, but she would stand with like all her hairs on the back of her neck, standing up and staring down the hallway and growling. She hated walking down that hallway. She did not want to do that. Even though dog that I have now, which is a different dog, does not like to do that either. It's almost like they stay either in the bedrooms or in the kitchen area and living room area. They will not walk down that hallway for any reason at all. My bedroom is on a different field of like than the rest of the house because you have to go down the whole hallway to get to my room, which is in the front of the house, and then my brother's room is also in the front of the house, and then everything else in the house is on the other side of that hallway. It's like we're like separated. I always felt like it was like some type of like spiritual like wall is also there, because like sometimes you just go to the kitchen and you feel lighter than when you're in the front of the house. Like there'll be days that I'll walk to the kitchen and I'll just feel like lighter, like the like are sure is gone. When I told one of my friends, she's like, Okay, so you saw a ball off, then you saw it again but bigger, and it looked like it was wearing the ball off. Then you saw a panther like shadow on your walk. Then random animals would show up in front of your house. It sounds like a skin walker. I was always very confused because we don't live near like woods or anything like that. And she's like, yeah, but the area where your houses are, they were woods before they were houses. If I had to guess what it was, I would say it was something along the lines of that, because it's just very surrounded by animal like. Everything that happens is like, oh, an animal or this, or like. The only thing that wasn't animal esque was when I saw the basketball flying across my room. But I was talking to my mom about it, and she basically said that while she was cleaning furniture, she was like moving this stand that we had like a bunch of movies on and on the back of like on the wall there were like these foam letters that I used to have when I was very little. She kept a bunch of them, but she lost the bag, like they went missing, Like the little bag of letters went missing. And behind this like stand with like movies on it while she was cleaning behind it, stuck to the wall was the letters w H. No idea what that is because I don't know anyone that starts with a W or H. The letters have like the sticky backing to it, so you have to take off the plastic. So even if like they were to say that they fell back there years ago, there was no reason for the sticky backing to like come off. And also that little stand with all the movies was relatively new. We had bought that maybe two years prior to this incident. There was no like kids in our house, like my brother was maybe in middle school. I was in high school. Like, there was no reason for that lettering to be back there, and it said w H. And to this day, like we don't know. The only connection is like the W for like windwgoll. That's it. With the same friend, she had experienced a lot of stuff in my house as well. When she comes into my house. There's been times where she'll walk in and she almost feels like a pat on her back, like I'm welcoming her, and then something else was touching her, welcoming her as well. She's brought her dog to my house, and they did not like that house. They wanted to be in the backyard the whole time, and it was one hundred degrees outside and the dog refused to come in. One of the things that I remember most prominently with her was that we were standing again the thirty two foot long hallway. We were standing in the side of like where the kitchen was, and we were just grabbing some snatch before we went out. We're standing with the hallway on our sides, like the whole hallway was right next to us. We can see the front door. We're talking, we're facing each other, and then all of a sudden, I see this blue silhouette. It was the first time I ever saw anything blue. Everything's always been like black or whatever, but I saw a blue silhouette. It was small, and it like ran to like where my room was, and I freaked out and I screamed. She freaked out, and she screamed, and then I asked her, what did you see? And she explained the exact same thing that I saw before I told her anything. So that was like the first time that something had happened that it wasn't just me. I had another friend who was sleeping over. I was in the kitchen making popcorn. She was in my room again, and we're separated by a hallway, so she's on one end and I'm on the other end, and I'm making the popcorn. All of a sudden, I hear her scream like bloody murder, and I ran down the hallway. I went into my room and she's packing her bags. I can't be here. I cannot be here, and I'm like, what happened? What happened? And she's like the lights, because I have these like battery powered lights in my room that turn on with a little switch. The switch was off and the entire room lit up in those lights. She didn't touch it, she didn't even know that they were battery powered. She did not touch it. She didn't do anything, and they just completely turned on. At first, she was like, Okay, maybe it's just like the batteries or whatever. And then she hears someone walking to my brother's room and kind of like going between my brother's room and like the guest bathroom that's also there in that little like at the other side of the hallway, and she's thinking it's me, because it's just the two of us. She's talking to what she thinks is me, and she's talking a conversation with that, and then she hears like a bear growl and it's like very girdle. She heard that. That's what made her scream. And she's like, please tell me that you were in the bathroom and walking around and I was like, no, it was making popcorn. She's like, no, no, no, you can't tell me that. You can't tell me that. What do you mean. She was panicking. She grabbed all her stuff and her boyfriend came and picked her up, and I was just left alone in the house. It has happened to other people, Like other people, I'm not there and they get touched, they get poked, they get scratched. But if I'm around them, nothing will happen. Except for like scar, we see things together. There was this one time that we were in my house and we were coming into the front door. You know, I'm putting it down, my keys and my bag on like the little hooks and stuff, and she goes, hey, should I lock the door, and I'm like, yeah, you should lock it, because you know we're gonna be here a while. I don't want to have my door unlocked. She goes, she locks it, and you know, we're there, we're messing around, we're like laughing, and all of a sudden, we hear the door unlocking, and you see the lock moved and the door just slowly opens, stops midway, and slam shut. It's a hurricane proof door. It is metal door. It is not a light door. The doors in Florida don't open inside. They opened to the outside because of hurricanes. So it wasn't like there was pressure in the house that opened the door from the inside. It opened from the outside and there was no one there. To this day, I will still see that shadow that I saw on the roof, Like I will see it in like behind a couch, like I'll see something like nothing next to the couch. It's just like a little space and in the wall, and in that little space, I'll see something. The point, I thought I was schizophrenic and I went to therapy and my therapist was like, I'm not schizophrenic. So it's like, I don't know what it could be. My new dog, She's a year old, and he will randomly hear things. The fur on his head, on the back of his neck will go off, like will go up. And he's a lot bigger than my past dog. He's a Rotweiler beagle mix, so he's like a good thirty five pounds. He's a lot more daring than my other dog was, and he will hear something and immediately stand in between whatever he's hearing and me and just start growling. I live with my grandparents now, like they moved in. Even if I'm at work, they'll be like, hey, did you come home? Because I hear someone in your room. We still find animals just randomly in my house. Recently, a vulture was just chilling on my roof. It was just there. I think because my grandma is very religious. She's always blessing the house and always has like candles on and is always praying with her rosary and stuff. I think it's slowed down, but it's still there. Like there are moments where I'm like sleeping and I feel something like right behind me. I sleep always fit with my back facing the wall. My bed is no longer in the middle of the room. It's against the wall, so that way, like at least I feel a little bit safer. It's never gone after my mom or my brother, or my grandparents or anything. It's just it's almost, like I always say that, I feel like it's attached to me in some way. Thank you Evelyn for sharing your story with us. Another podcast, I was talking about the potential of the paranormal physically harming somebody, and this one seems like it got pretty close. But I'm glad everything turned out okay.
