Hi everyone. This is Christina and this is MJ. And this is another episode of As Spooky Tells, the podcast for All Things As Spooky, And we have the other Morto stories today, the other Dad. Yes, we do. Well. For once, we're like right on topic because this is gonna come out Friday, the twenty seventh, I think, and then like you know, that's the weekend of the aln Morto's basically yeah, and I start my celebrations on the twenty seventh, so perfect. But first I think we have some things to address. Are we doing that first? Yes? Yes, yeah, let's do that. Yeah, it was. I mean, as everyone knows, Gaza is being bombed to oblivion. It seems like Israel's goal is to fully finish their active genocide, right, yes, And like we wouldn't be as Spooky Tells if we didn't address it, because like we talk about colonization and how it affects the stories and legends and myths that we hear today in Latin America. So yeah, maybe someone's listening and they're like, stay in your lane, but no, we have to talk about this because this is fucking terrible. It's terrible, and it affects us all because right now the global politics, everyone's talking about World War three and we don't know what the hell the higher ups are gonna do. We honestly don't know. It affects us all. And it's also so like hypocritical, not hypocritical, but so like ignorant to be like, oh, world War three when there's parts of the of the world that, yeah, that's true, this is their every day. That is true, like Gaza, you know, but for people who live in a comfortable home, like you know, it's I don't know. I guess like I've been posting up about it a long time, and I'm noticing that everybody continues like nothing's happening, And I realize that we are very much addicted to that, to the comforts that we have. We have electricity, we have running water, and all this shit seems like it's so far away, but it does affect you. You are the one paying for it, but with your taxes. Yeah, you are part of the web. I guess that we're all interconnected and we're all affecting it. It all affects us. And if you're if you don't want to believe it, that's you know, I can't I can't force I can't force you, but understand that it is something that's going to affect us all and has been affecting us all. I didn't even realize how affected I was by the stuff that's been going on for seventy five years until all this stuff happened because they've been educated by Palestinian leaders and POC leaders that have been like telling and and without like fear, because for many years it's been scared of talking about this topic because if you say something, you're called an anti Semite, which is kind of ridiculous because to be a semi you either have to be Arab or Jewish, and among other lists, right, like what are semi languages, and which is Hebrew and Arabic? And I'm like, Palestinians are Arabic, so they are you know, yeah yeah, And it's like Israel or Zionists. It does not equal being anti Jewish because there's Jewish people themselves that are not for Zionism. They're not the same thing. There are many there are so many Jewish people that are anti Zionism. And Zionism is a political group and Judaism is the religion, and you have to separate both of them, because like it's like saying like, oh, well, I don't know, like a name, an extremist group, and then a religion, and then if you you put them all together, it's like, well, that's not the case. You have the people of this religion that have nothing to do with the extremists, so don't mix it together. Yeah. Yeah, And then there's like people like, oh, this is like their war, but this isn't a war. This is an occupation of a people, a genocide of a people that we are paying for. It's our money. Yeah, it's our money, and it pisses me off. Yeah. I saw this meme like a couple of days ago that was like Peter Parker and the friend. I can't even remember the friend's name. It's like the original Spider Man movies. It's James Franco's character. I just don't know the name. Henry. No, Harry, Harry, Harry, yes, Harry. Wow, I'm surprised. And you know, the meme is like Peter Parker asking him, Hey, have you heard about what's going on in the Middle East? And then Harry is like, please, I'm working six jobs to pay three thousand dollars in rent. I don't have time to think about the Middle East. And it's like that money that we should be getting for healthcare, for our taxes, all of that is being used to send more and more aid to aid Israel and genocide exactly, exactly exactly, And that's I think that's what pisses me off because I have a friend who said, no matter if you're a Democrat or Republican or any other political view in the United States, we're all eating shit, and that is so true because we do not have health care. The prices of food are going up. I mean, it's gotten so bad that even I've been limiting to what I really buy. And my husband's a federal worker, so let's start there, like, how is the hell does a federal worker in today's economy like you still have to be careful with what you buy? And then gas prices are going up and it literally takes a fraction probably of what our taxes you know, that are sent to Israel could do to help people here. We have homelessness is skyrocketing. People can't buy homes. Yeah, we didn't have money for that, but we have money for this, Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's just terrible and a lot of people think that, like it's just the United States, we're well off. Actually, now there's so many people that starve here. A lot of people are malnourished. A lot of people don't have the money to pay their medical bills. Yeah. Yeah, and to know that things that could be used in aiding and helping and in good things, things that are good, like helping people eat, helping people. But there's this thing too, there's a law in thirty six states where anything that's funded by the public or that is part of the stake cannot protest against Israel. Yeah, and people that are like calling them out are getting fired from their jobs. But like I mean, you know, there's protests going on. People are protesting against these atrocities, and there is I'll put a link in the show notes. There's a I don't remember what it stands for, like BDS, like boycott so you boycott specific company so that it affects Israel more like Puma HP McDonald's. No, that's not one of the book parts. That's part of the BDS. Oh is it not? That I know, like McDonald's donates to Israel, So people are doing McDonald's and Starbucks. Yeah, but like, well, at some point the companies are too much where you can't boycott everything, it's like physically impossible. So that's why Palestinians themselves came up with the BDS. Well, McDonald's nobody needs it. It's like poisoning your body, so people should have been limiting that shit forever, and Starbucks with these with this economy, I've been limiting my Starbucks anyway, so it's gone completely now and I'm currently looking for a for a mom and pop shop. So yeah, so for me, it's like not hard to do that, but when you start looking at all the companies, it's too much. It's really too much, it is. And also, yeah, why they made that BDS thing. Pestinis themselves did, and so I know for sure Puma and HP and HPR on there. Yeah, but also like Walmart is also one, and I would want people to be cautionary with this and don't feel bad if you cannot boycott, because I know for many places, Walmart is the only place that's available for food. Yeah, this is why the BDS thing exists, because like I said, at some point, it's you can to such a boycott everything, but those specific ones you can it's not hard to do those like, that's why they created that. Let me find it though, so that people know. So the BDS movement is what came out of Palestine itself to know what's boycott because it's targeted. So that's HP Simons, which I don't know what that is Simons. I don't know what that is either. Ax A is they fund like Israeli banks Puma Puma and then produce from Israel and so to stream. Oh yeah, so did I never use that? I was like, yeah, so those are the specific ones that are easy to like target, which is why that exists. But then of course if you can easily do like the other ones on the list, that list is huge, but this is specific and I'll put that link in the show notes so people can see as well. And then yeah, just like no, we stand with Palestine. There's also I think I showed it to MJ. But there's like companies you know the Palestine, like people use this like headscarf or scar specific kafa. Yes, yeah, so there's companies you can buy them from and the money they're straight from Palestine, made by Palestinians, and the money goes to them when you purchase one. I'll put a link in the show notes as well if anyone wants to do that to like try and sense support and like, yeah, our hearts are with Palestine. We will never stand with the oppressor, which is Israel and Scionism. And that does not mean we are anti Jewish. Those things are not the same. And I mean, like maybe I don't know someone out there that listens is like, oh no, they're supporting terrorism. First of all, No, like this is this history goes way back. It's not just something that started on October seventh exactly. I just did me and Carmen did in Yestodia is Aknown episode that's going to be out on Thursday, so the day before this, where we go into more of the history of Palestine as well as Palestinian history in Latin America, if anyone wants to listen to that for a little more background, but also just like look up things from like Palestinian people themselves, right, yes, yes, and follow Palestinian leaders too, especially uh social movement leaders. I think that's the best place to get the information from. But yeah, and with that, I would also like to say, just because I'm also saying a lot of rhetoric right now. Just because you don't agree with Israel does not give you the right to be to say hateful Jewish things. Because again, Zionism and Judaism are two different things. Okay, one of them isn't a one of them is a religion, the other one is a political movement. Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah for sure. And yeah, like I already said, like, I mean, we've already said it, I don't know what else there is to say, just like this is I don't know, how can people just like stand by and watch a whole ass country I know, and I'm seeing it a lot. I'm seeing it a lot, and it's it's heartbreaking because Latinos, Oh my god, so some Latinos love Israel and it has to do with Christianity. Christianity our Bible talks about how Israel, the Holy Land, is going to bring forth the whatever, which also is Yeah, I just I don't get it. But I mean in these specific countries, there's also been protests people standing up for Palestine. So yeah, yeah, I mean we can go on forever. Did you also want to talk about the Otto MEI yes, And actually there's a lot of stuff going on around the world right now, which I briefly discussed. But yes, the atom people of Mexico have been targeted by the Mexican government. When was it I can't wait wait before you continue with that. This also reminds me. I've seen Mexican flags at protests for Palestine and like the Mexican flag himself. Yeah, I'm Mexican too, but this is also a settler colonial flag that oppresses indigenous people in Mexico. So why don't leave the flag at home? Leave that Mexican flag alone. Yeah, yeah, leave it, leave it at home until Mexico gets its shipped together and does reparations and actually gives a fuck about indigen and as people leave it at home. We me and Christine are both Mexican, you know, uh, but we just like everything. Just like we call out bullshit here in the United States, we have to call out bullshit in our Mexico. Yeah. Yes, the Otomi people were attacked by the Mexican government. And for people who don't know, they are an indigenous group and they have asked for basic human rights like the right to have electricity, running water, land and all this shit and you know stuff that like, I mean, like basic stuff that people should have, and they live in like I think, I want to say, like in a community building and they were like attacked by the Mexican government and people aren't really talking about it and for protesting, right, like a protest yes, because again the Mexican government was like, hey, we're going to give you the basic necessities. And it's been like three two or three years and the Mexican government still hasn't given them jacks because again, their land was taken for like other things, and they were put in these like yes, it's not a reservation because Mexico doesn't use reservations, right, but it's essentially in practice the same thing. Their land was taken. They were placed in this building and then in yeah, it's like a community building, is yeah, And they were like they're trying to be like evicted from it, which is like crazy. It's like where there, Where are this entire like group of people supposed to go? You took everything from them. They don't they don't have access like the rest of you know, uh, I guess Mexico does with running water, electricity and all this stuff. Where are they going to go? So they were attacked by the Mexican government, and I think it's something that we need to highlight again standing with indigenous people who are oppressed. Yes, and yeah, it's just just please you guys, research it and please. I'm seeing a lot of racism too from Mexican nationals towards the Ottomi people and that is not okay. I I oh my god, I saw this girl who says, well, if they don't like Mexico, they should leave. I'm like, they're indigenous, you dumb bitch. Yeah, oh my god, Like you're not supposed to be there. You get off their land. Yeah. But and it's stuff like that, and just you know, you guys, do your research, educate yourself more, because there's a lot of people around the world currently needing help. There's again like Haiti is also facing some crazy stuff, I believe patient occupation from the UK right now and they're they're like, it's getting bad in Haiti, you guys, Yeah, protesting and Guatemala, of course, if you listen to Ustadia asn't known, you'll know how much Corner and I talk about Asalvador like it's a lot. And then in Africa, several countries are also facing unrest, uh, especially for like Uh, the I guess the remnants and and it's not even remnants but like a lot of the stuff that still stems from colonialism. Uh, a lot of genocide going on there because UK companies and American companies are quite literally raping their land for minerals and stuff in the minds and it's killing people there. So there's a lot of places that need our focus. And yeah, it's it's gonna be tough, you guys. I've been doomscrolling, but you know, five minutes here, five minutes there, every day, letting people know what the hell's going on, and I think, yeah, hopefully we're able to help those who need help around the world, because it's it's a lot. I know it's overwhelming, but what is it. We can't we can't stay silent, and we're not going to for sure, well said Okay, and I don't know how to gracefully say, let's start like the spooky tell us, but let's start. I'm sorry for that little bit of like sadness, especially you know, especially for those of us who've been doomscrolling. And but let's let's get onto some you know, a different topic now, spooky stuff. Yeah, let's get onto our our episode topic now. So I do have a very long listener story that I've been listening listening that I've been saving specifically for this episode because God, like I think it was months ago now at least half a year maybe that this listener sent me this, but it's a Theamortos story, and so I wanted to save it for this for this day. So if you have a listener story that you want to send in, you can email a Spooky does gmail dot com. You can dm us on any of our socials. You can submit it on Discord. There's this channel called submit your Scary Story. So like that's exactly where it goes. Attach a voice note to an email, like there's some there's a lot of options. I call our Spooky hotline. That it's numbers in the show notes because again, I will never memorize it. So this story is long. So just you know, saddle up, which is what this listeners how she started the story. Okay, so here it goes all right, saddle up. Here's three connected stories. The first story is actually my grandpa's. My mom told it to me the first year we did our altar. My grandpa didn't celebrate Day of the Dead. At first, at some point he had a dream where he looked out the window and saw people walking lost, of them holding food and drinks. Then he saw a group holding nothing. Those were our ancestors. They had nothing because no one had an alter for them. That's when he started building his own, and from that day forward he told the family how important it was. My grandpa died when I was like two or even younger. He and I have birthdays within a day of each other. I wish I had gotten to spend time with him. Fast forward to my adulthood, maybe twenty sixteen or earlier. I want to say. I grew up in New Jersey, so I didn't have any Spanish friends really to celebrate, really who celebrate the holiday and I can share with I had seen my aunt's alters and everything, and I felt like we needed to celebrate. So I put together the most crudely done altar, but it was done with love. I put together whatever I could without knowing much, and off we went. The thing is, my mom wouldn't help me. She didn't care much. She wasn't the time to celebrate it. Despite knowing the previous information. That night, we went to bed. My mom hadn't cooked that night because we actually had takeout At this time. I didn't have a car, so the next morning I had to wake up and leave for work with her. We come home the same time, with neither of us having gone anywhere but from home to work and back. When we opened the door, the smell of onions filled the entire house. She goes, did you cook? I was like, no, I had been with you or at work the entire time. The smell wasn't faint to either. It filled the entire house as if someone was cooking right then and there. My mom tells me she had a dream last night. She said her mother was in it, but she couldn't remember what happened. Then she shared the information that my grandma loved to cook with onions. I guess she was afraid that my grandma was gonna hala las patas. And from that day on she started helping me with either buying decorations or making tamales for the ad Deen Mortos. This story took place in twenty eighteen, so this is like an additional story to the first one. This story is from twenty eighteen. I went to visit my family in Mexico. They lived in a very small town. I had wanted to go specifically for the ad Deen Mortos, and I had the chance to finally go. We went a couple of days before, so my Tia was getting ready to put up the altar. My mom and I had gone to the next town over for sempasucchi and papel picado. We came back and set up the altar and everything. My Tia and I made some bread in our old school outdoor oven. It was a super wholesome thing. My aunt loves to drink. Though happened my cousin let's call him Jose. We were watching The Chilean Adventures of Sabrina. My other cousin, let's call her Maria, went to sleep because she knew Arthia wouldn't be home early. It was getting close to eleven thirty and she wasn't home. She was out drinking and we were talking about how crazy the show is. We waited up because we wanted to make sure she was okay. Around midnight, we hear a crack. Both my cousin Jose and I jump up and go searching for the noise. We checked on the dogs on the back the windows, the kitchen, everything. We turned on all the lights. But a short time later, my aunt came home. We had been calling her to make sure she was okay, but she didn't answer. She stumbled in and says she lost her purse last time she drank. We we told her what happened. She said, my grandpa hated when she stayed out late and drank like this. But she was home safe and so and went to sleep. The next morning, I went to the altered to investigate closer. The pictures looked fine, but then I got to the candles. The candle in front of my grandpa's picture was off clean Across the entire glass was a crack. The other candles were fine in front of my THEO and my and everything, but my Grandpa's candle had gone out and cracked. We got super scared, but we knew he probably meant well. He was just mad about my Tia coming home late like that. The rest of the trip, my patas were under the sheets. That was the crack, they heard, that's crazy. The candle hyeh wow, that's a while that it was so loud like that. But yeah, that's the story. I Yeah, I would have died yeah. Same. It's I mean, I guess, like a scary story, but it's also cute because like it wasn't something like evil. It was just like the Grandpa like checking up on the on the theia that is, he was like, you need to get your shit together. Me huh, yeah. Yeah, that's the kind of the other mortal story that you want to really yes, yes, I have too, but one of them is like my experience from last year. So it's kind of it's more like a little footnote, I guess maybe. Oh, okay, okay, it's a small story and it's from it is a it's my own experience. And I celebrate the other mortals starting on the twenty seventh of October. And for a little bit of backstory, my grandfather died last year right before the other mortals on October twenty second, so yesterday was his one year anniversary since he passed, and so I set up Alfrenda and with my mom, and then within the first days of the other mortals, we had a weird stuff happen. Oh really, yeah, So we would go to bed with the pictures in place, and every morning my grandfather's picture was moved. When we woke up. Wow, it was on the floor day than one day. It was just tipped over. It was just weird. It wasn't anything like crazy or well, but it was like, you know, something like my family needed, especially because it happened at the time it happened, and like we were fresh freshly morning while we were celebrating the other morning and away. I don't know. It was like in a weird way, like something we needed. Yeah, it was just nice because it was like, oh my god, he's letting us know that he's here and he's watching over the family, especially because his death was like nobody was it right, Yeah, yeah, no, And don't get me wrong, he was like elderly, but like not like in the hospital bed sickly, you know what I mean. Yeah, yeah, so he passed away at home. But yeah, it was it was expected, so it was a little comforting. Yeah, that's awesome. I would I would love for like a sign like that. Yeah, it was. It was really like, uh, I don't know, it made everything easier, I guess for the other Martos. We usually put up an altar like we always have, and then my my family Mesico have always visited the pan like the cemetery on that day. Whatever alter they put at home is always so small, but last year would have been the first then moreto since my grandpa passed away, because he passed away the summer of last year, so my grand my went like all out with the altar. It was like huge and and it had like because since then another brother of his passed away after he passed away, and then one of my aunts myas I don't remember if it was a brother of hers too, but since then there's been like at least three more deaths like in the family. And so she put up like all their pictures. But Mayabulita had like the biggest one. They always get the bread that he likes. They're called like Lnovia. It's like this little tourly sugary one. I'm sure you've seen it, which is also my favorite one. Like I have this memory where we were all over there for their I love that. That was in twenty seventeen, when October twenty seventeen actually, and we were all over there and he came back with a giant ass like the biggest novia and bread that I have ever seen, and he was like this is just for me and and Christina because that's our favorite bread. I love that. But so may Arita had the altar up and the candle that she had her phot of like she was she would every day. Was it was like the cutest thing because she sent like videos of the altar every day and she's like, the smoke is taller today, Like I think he's showing us that he's here. I love that, And like sure someone could look into and like, oh, that's just like wishful, like you're wishing it into existence. But like my candles didn't do that here, you know. Yeah, so I think it's a sign. I do think it's a sign. I was watching them like, oh is there Am I going to get a sign? Like but no, I don't get anything here. Obviously I still put up the altar and everything, but like her altar over there. I swear. There was one video where the smoke almost looks like it's making a heart shape like that, Oh that's what it looks like that And we have the video. I had to dig it up from my my What's app folder like album, But yeah, I mean, just uh, I just like I do think. I do think sometimes we do get maybe an extra visit now, Sammy screaming, Oh my god, I can we forgot what I was saying, and I'm eating a sniggers now where I've been eating my kids Halloween Kenny. I was like, I shouldn't be doing this. No, you were talking about how some people were gonna be like that's not a sign. But to you was, oh, yeah, yeah, I do believe that we could get like an extra visit that maybe we wouldn't get another day on theos. Yeah. Sam, Sorry, I'm like I said that was candy. I'm shot your snickery. But yeah, you can go to your second story. Okay, so this is my second story. And before I get to the story, I could already hear that's not how my family celebrates it. Okay. So there is no I feel like right or wrong way to celebrate this. There's so many ways to celebrate it. However, I do want in my belief it is a close practice, because I very much think you do have to have ancestral ties or else. It's just it's not the other more of those right, Like, it's it's very much an ancestral thing that it's like three thousand years old. Welcome to our haunted break. Yeah, I will. I will add though, like, I don't know when my family started celebrating it. As far as I know, we are not like like obviously everyone says there's a little bit of like indigenous, and that's part of like MESSI sache. I don't like follow that right, I don't like Sure, maybe somewhere down the line there was, but whatever it was, we've lost connection to it. In my family in Mexico, I don't know like what it would have been at all. So I don't know when we started celebration celebrating the Alen Mortos because, like my mom said, they didn't do it when she was a kid, but when she got here she started doing it. And she was in Oakland, she saw the other Mortos festivals and the altars, and I think one of my one of her grandpa's had just her I think it was me below my great grandpa had just passed away, and so she wanted to do it too for him, and that's when she started doing it. And like, I had no idea that we didn't grow up like that. It was not a thing we've done forever, just because we've done it forever with her, So like I don't have I don't think I have ancestral ties to it in that way either, I think you do. And because I'm gonna say one thing, because a lot of people who are not allowed to practice their religion and their ancestral religious religion thing, you know, because it's like either you convert or we kill you. And if you celebrate this body, we're gonna kill you. That doesn't mean you don't have ancestors who are continuously looking after you who did celebrate this and it was the religion right right, true? True. I don't know where I was going with that, so gold Okay, So I'm gonna give a little of a background for the next story. And this next story comes from on YouTube. The episodes are all in Spanish, so if you are a Spanish speaker, it's fantastic. But for our Spanish challenge friends, I bring you a story from the channel in the communities of the Sapotec people of eat More. The one Tepic. The other Morto is called Chandu. This celebration starts nine days before the mortos. They create these beautiful overrendas with beautiful arches that are made out of banana leaves, flowers and have a wooden base representing the entrance to the underworld. The Sapotec people would then have a very extensive offering. The food must be given for breakfast, which means the Sapotec people would start cooking the night prior. They would cook a breakfast feast, including making homemade hot tortillas right off the command frijoles layuda la yudas and I mean all the Mexican breakfast fixings caela, and they would wait for the biyok show. I don't know how to spell it, so I only wrote down the pronunciation, So please don't come for me. But this biok show is the wind of the dead, the old wind, and this viento of the other Los Mortos would start early in the morning on the first day of Shandu. It's a sign that there are that they the mortos, you know, the spirits of the dead are coming. Once they feel the old wind come, they start moving to the oreanda, they start moving like all the food and stuff. By midday, new food is put out, rice stews, more freshly made tortillas, and more drinks and all the fixings for a Mexican lunch. However, this isn't so simple. When it comes to a Suppletick celebration, one must be careful who the ofrenda is, for it is believed that the trek to the afterlife takes three months, so only those who have died before August should be on the ofrenda, because if a person died after August is put on the afrenda, you may pull them from their travel to the afterlife and mess up their journey and they stay on earth and you risk their wrath. There's a story from Huchitan. The Saragoza in Wahaka Reslora tells the story. And Rasalas are people, mostly women, who pray for the dead and guide them, especially those souls who've had a violent death. Their prayers are usually in Latin and suppultick in this area. Usually when a person dies of natural causes, people pray for them and the uronas, women who are contracted to will for the deceased, so they have willing accompany them to the afterlife. Wow, this is amazing. Yeah, this is so like like, I don't know what the word is that I'm looking for. I never knew about this until I read this episode, and it was so intrigued. But when the person dies of violent death, it is important to bring a resala to guide them to help them. It's called levantarre morto in English. It literally translates to raise the dead. The ress go to the place that the deceased died and through their prayers they raise up the dead and walk them to the afterlife. Wow. One Drassala has a story. One day she was walking to her car after work at night, she hears the voice of a man who when sappultick, tell they murdered me under the tamarind tree. Lift me up with one of your prayers so I can return for a cup of water. His family had placed an ofrenda for the other mortals with a cup of water. The Rassaalota was also a medium and knew such things, which is how she was able to perceive them. The voice of the man told her his name. The next morning that Rassaaloda returned to the place she heard the man and there was in fact a tamarind tree. She asked around for the man's name, and she was able to locate the man's family. She visited them and finds out that he had been dead longer than three months. He was murdered right under the tree and was found days later. He bled out and died. Wow. She confirms the facts the man told her with his family. She then returns to the place of his murder with help and begins her prayers to raise the dead. The family all day didn't feel the old wind, and just as they were about to remove the offerings from the Ofranda, the wind of the dead came. Her prayers worked and he was able to have his drink of water. And that is my second story. Wow, that's beautiful. Yes, I love that. I didn't know it was so uh intricate and so yes intricate. Oh my god, that's I was like, what is the word that I'm looking for? That? Was it so complex? And yeah, there's so many other moving components because I feel like this is just like a like a sped through version of what their culture really is like and what their beliefs really are like. So I yeah, it's beautiful and in this particular episode, which I did link in the in the notes. He has several other stories. I think about like three or four other stories that are equally as wow and have to do with put this tradition in particular where it's it's uh sepletheic beliefs. Wow. I got to listen to those. Yes, i'll send you the link. It's it's in the notes, but i'll send it to you directly, and I will try to remember to put it in the show notes. Okay, I have one more short one. This was found by Dawn on a website that I cannot remember, but it's a website where people submit their own scary stories and it was in Spanish translated it thank you, Don and yeah, I wish I remember the website, but I haven't written down somewhere. I just don't feel like looking for it right now. I'll try to remember to also put it in the show notes. Okay, So here is that story. My name is Kernimo. I'm currently forty eight years old, and this marks eighteen years since this event happened. I admit that prior to this event, I had always been skeptical about the supernatural, but this event changed my perception. Let me start by saying that I lived in Nesa, Gualco, Yot, Mexico, and worked in now Now. Of course, now I'm like stuttering with this word, and worked in now Galpan. That one was harder for some reason, but it looks easier, wow, whatever, which is on the other side of the city. So in order to get to work, I had to leave my house by five in the morning. During the time this incident happened, I was renting a home in the neighborhood of Las Mara Villas and lived with my two daughters and my wife while my brother in law, Pedro, and his family rented the house next door. The week this happened, though, Pedro and his wife had been arguing, so he had left and was staying with one of his brothers, Vicente, so I didn't expect to see him. But one morning I got up early and got ready for work like I usually do. On my way out of the house, I saw a man standing outside Pedro's house as if he was waiting for the door to open. When I passed by the man, I realized that it was Pedro and figured he had probably stopped by to visit his son. When I passed by him, I said good morning, but I didn't receive a response. Later, while I was at work, I received a call from my wife informing me that she was heading to Wahaka with my two daughters because Pedro had died early in the morning. What how, what time did it happen? I asked my wife. I saw him this morning before I came to work, I said. My wife told me that that bather. Why was I gonna say battle? What the fuck? My wife told me that Pedro had gone to spend the Day of the Dead with his parents in Guahaka. While he was there, he also decided to go play basketball on the town's court, where he met several acquaintances. He then stopped some of his relative's homes since he had planned to leave Wahaka soon. On the final night he was seen alive, he spoke with his mother, who was washing dishes. He told her to leave the chores to the next morning because it was cold out, so they decided to go to sleep, But at around three in the morning, my father in law began to hear the dog's barking and the horses neighing, so he woke up to check what was triggering the animals. He realized that his son, Pedro was also making strange noises. Apparently he had just gone into respiratory arrest. Unfortunately, the there were no health centers in town, and within minutes my brother in law was dead. To be honest, I think that's why Pedro visited his relatives that weekend. He knew it was the last time he would see them. That's why the dogs barked and the horses made They knew death was waiting to take him. I'm also certain it was him who I saw outside his house almost an hour after he died in Guahaka. I believe his spirit went to say bye to his son. Yes, Oh, I was very spooky. It is it is, and I'm assuming he saw him in like a full fledged looking human now, like yeah, like a translucent spirit. I don't know what ghosts look like. I've never seen one, obviously, but he must have looked like his normal to have said good morning to him and just like think he saw him. That's is crazy. Yeah, yeah, that's terrifying. It reminds me of the other except that's when take place around the other Mortos. But the other story from the Monoplula where this guy runs into his old friend he has like lunch with him, yeah, and then later finds out that he had died. That's that's always crazy to me. Like what It's like, what what do you mean that? Did I just have like lunch with a dead person? Fuck that? And like right right, it's not spooky in the moment. I'd be freaking out. After one, I would throw up, like oh no, yeah, I would be. I would be terrified, especially because, like I mean, I always picture them being like, you know, translucent and like you can tell it's a ghost, but like I guess you can't always obviously, or all those stories wouldn't exist. They're so solid. Yeah crazy, Yeah, Yeah, I don't like it. We did get a Patreon member that asked me or messaged us on Patreon to ask if we would be okay with sharing what we put on our dad? Are you okay with telling people what you put on there? Yes? I am okay. It's like video because I haven't put mine up or like what I generally put it saying what you put up? Yeah, I'll record video uh later, probably this weekend. But I guess everybody is different For me, I put actual pictures. I know for some people that's not okay, you have to put yeah, like some people don't believe in putting pictures. Some people just put artifacts that belong to that person, so that's you know, that's I also put artifacts that belong to people, like who have passed. So I put both pictures and artifacts. Like last year, I had my grandfather's picture along with the watch that belonged to him, so you know, artifacts in that. And then I put the candles, the you know, the saint candles. I put those. I do put like some artwork that represents like bull who are in my ancestry that I don't know, So I have like just of different people from Mexico that look different, but like since I don't know who is in my line. But also like for many anybody in Mexico who has uh had who aren't remembered who you know, oh, people don't, So I do something like that. It's not necessarily what's it called, but it's like, hey, you know, like you're not forgotten. And I understand that there's a lot of people in our history who will not be remembered because they were murdered or erased or you know what have you? So I do that, and then I have coppal, the incense copal burning. What else I have like all sorts of candles, lots of white candles. I do t like candles because I'm like, you know what if step on after like four hours? And then I do the fake led candles because I don't want to have a fire at night. Yeah yeah, I'm like this, listen, ancestors, you get led candles. I'm sorry, but I gotta be saved. It's not that count. It's twenty twenty three. I have ADHD. I cannot risk burning my house down because I will forget to put this out exactly. So I have led candles that I put out in the last like six hours, which is great nice, and they're on a timer so it's six hours on, eighteen hours off, so I don't have to do anything. So it's that, and then what else do I put? I have a raboso as the base. I have puppet picado. I have like little calaca artwork, like little sugar skulls work, and yet it's just not much. I do have fake flowers because I my kids are older, but they still are kids, and I'm not trying to have like everything there ruined. Yeah, but I might do fresh flowers this year. I did a little bit of fresh flowers last year, but not as much as I like. Yeah, and water drinks, I sumped. I have like vodka that I put out my grandmother who liked it, and because I don't drink, but I do have those small little party bottle what are they called, like a shot glass? No, but the little bottles that they give you like an airlines. Oh yeah, I don't know what they're called, Like a party size, Yeah, like a party sun sized little alcoholic drinks. So that's I have a few of those, and I put like a variety out and I put some like snacks and stuff. I don't really do the food thing because my altar is really small. Yeah, but I do do like snacks, like, hey, like here's some you know, Mexican candies and stuff and American candies for the family that that liked, you know, American candies for both. But I don't really do the food thing. I do the drinks thing, but that's about it. And then yeah, I throw away the food after we don't touch the food that's on the altar. We just throw it away. Yeah, I have a very tiny one, so you know, like those years ago that used to be like five dollars. Now because of inflation, I think they're like fifteen ninety nine. But I used to have these like very small like all black side tables. I don't know if you ever saw them, They're very small. So that's what I use because that's the only extra like table that I have. And it's like in the corner of the kitchen because there's a little space there. So I put my blanket that I got in San Juan de Rios. It's like you know those like classic like Mexican you know, like blankets, like a striped one. It's not like a riboso but it's like god riboso material, but in like a blanket form. So that's what goes on the table. And then because it's so small, I only have room for really, so I put one big, like eight x ten picture I have of him where he's wearing an at Last shirt because he loved at Last, and then I have two smaller pictures of him that I also liked. He when we went over there in twenty seventeen, he gave me an Adlas hat, So the hat goes on the Again, it's a very small alter, so I don't have it on the altar. My doors that go to my backyard or right behind the altar, and there's curtains there, so I put you know those like things that you can clip on to the glue onto the wall, and I have like a little yeah, I put one of those on the curtain, and I hang the hat right above the altar. It it does, it works, so that goes above that. And then I get him two of the you know, the the bread that I mentioned, the La novia, because he always had two. He couldn't have one by itself. It was always two, so I got I would Yeah, I put two on a little plate and then the the is the third one that goes on this like long plate that I have. He also loved massa ban that was like one of his favorite candies. So a couple of masaan is because he also didn't just have one, he always had two. And then there's this uh cotton not cotton, my bad coconut coconut long Mexican candy. They're like, oh white and then usually pink at the end. I don't like coconut, so I don't like it. But he loved that candy, so that goes on there. And then like, uh, glass bottle of coca because he cannot set at the table without some coca. So that was that's there. And then there's a white candle and then you know the candles that are like have like and on them, so one with whichever one I find out the store really yeah, because sometimes do they'd be selling out quick? Yeah. Actually I should have gone today because I having bought piccado and it's probably gone, and I'm like, fuck, I should have went last weekend. But I can make it with the cricket. It's not the same material, but like it'll do you know my last longer because my peca from less you got ripped because it's just like paper. Yeah, oh tissue paper, Yeah, I got tissue paper, the tissue paper one. Yeah, so I might have to make that with the cricket instead, but yeah, bigato. And then we put some salt on the table. Those candles. Water. There's always a cup of water. So I will say, I thankfully don't have family members who have drowned, but uh, in some if you have a family member who has drowned, do not put water instead make them a separate altar, and a lot of places they do make separate altars for different family members. So for instance, some people will just have their like like you do, like just for your grandfather. Yeah, and some people have separate altars because, uh, like in situations like that where like say one person is okay with something but the other one was not in their lifetime, so you kind of separate both of them. And that's totally fine. Again, there's so right wrong way to do this really, but yeah, my puts everyone on there and she's like, Bella, I know you didn't like she didn't like my grandpa, and she's like, but whatever, you gotta deal with it because you're all sitting next to each other. There was oh and then the flower the simp, I can't pronounce it, yes, thank you. Yeah, so and that is also those are hard to find here, like they really hard to find here, like hard hard, but like they go fast and I don't get to go to the grocery s very often. I'm like disabled, they can't drive, so oh right by the time I go, it's gone. So in the corner is the street where all the like Mexican restaurants and grocery stores are at and there's always people that are selling the flowers outside and yeah, so there's no way to run out. But what does run now is the picato that always runs out, no puppet pick out. Yeah, and and so yeah, it's gonna be I think it's gonna be maybe a little bit more elaborate this year. I got a few more things. Uh, but let's see. But yeah, I'll probably record and then send you the video. Yeah, we'll post pictures of them. We posted pictures of our and that is last year too, or fans. So yeah, but yeah, I guess this brings us to the end of the episode. Yes, do you have any spooky recommendations? Oh jeez, I was watching spooky shit too, I actually was, and now like you told me, and it all went poof, poof, it just went blank. Yeah, what information? We have nothing. I'm trying to remember what I've watched, and I don't think I watched Beetle Juice. That's the one I can remember. But that's because my daughter loves Beetle Juice, a classic. I haven't seen it in forever. I like it just because Michael Keaton what, No, I don't know, but like him as an actor. I was obsessed with Him'm like, okay, I almost thought you were going to say that you liked him. No, Michael Keaton like younger version Chef's kiss really really interesting. Okay, I'll have to look him up because I don't know he played Batman one time. Yeah, I just don't remember what the younger version of him looks like. To be honest version Now it is fine, too, really interesting taste. Listen, I used to like have a crush on Marilyn Manson. So I'm not the person asked for a beating. You're right, No, I'm just kidding. I didn't mean to sound all judging. I judge my own taste. And then, oh, I said, I just looked up a picture of him. He had quite the hair. Let me send you the screenshaw of his hair. Wait, Marilyn Manson or Michael Keaton. No, no, no, Michael Keaton ok Marlon or Marilyn Manson scared me. No, that's fair. He scared a lot of people. Yeah, if someone said they liked him, I was like, no, he scares me. Oh my god, fancy hair. Do you see his hair? Wow? Like voluminous and like he took care of his hair for sure. Yeah, it looks fantastic, like eighties, like that's the hair you want, or girl, that's that's the hair that's now. Yeah, right, But no, I haven't seen anything new. I've been rewatching The Treehouse Terror Simpsons. Oh yeah, I haven't watched that in forever. Oh yeah, Like Hulu has them all put together, like in the same place, so I just like put them on and those are my own. Those are the only Simpsons episodes that I like, so I watch them. But I haven't meaning to watch Cobweb on Hulu. I haven't What is that one? I haven't heard of it. Let me read you the synopsis. Here, Peter confides in his parents about mysterious tapping in his bedroom ball but they say it's just an old house. As his fear grows, so do his doubts. That's weird. I'm gonna check that out. I did say that there's a new horror slasher movie coming out called Thanksgiving. I was like, that's weird, really, Yeah, it's just that's what it's called, Just Thanksgiving, and it's like on Thanksgiving and somebody's going around killing towns people. Oh okay, well, I'll probably watch that. Is it like a horror comedy? I don't know if it's a horror comedy. It just looks like like a slasher. Oh okay, okay, just a name gives horror comedy to me, so right, okay, but yeah, I guess that has been this episode. Oh right? Yeah, and yeah, I don't know, hung your loved ones.
