[00:00:00] Hi everyone, this is Cristina and this is MJ. And this is another episode of Espooky Tales, the podcast about all things spooky and we also can't read. And that is okay. Yeah, I'm gonna bring up that review whenever I can. Why? Somebody said we can't read?
[00:00:23] Yeah, like a week ago I showed you the review. Oh! Although they gave us three stars, not one. They said, spooky, I love this podcast, but they can't read. We can't read. All the stuttering and... Oh yeah, I remember that. Yeah, that one. You had forgotten already?
[00:00:39] I was like, oh shit, I forgot that comment existed. Someone said we can't read? Like yes, we rephrase this every time. We were like, we can't read, we apologize. We do say that a lot because it's true.
[00:00:44] And then they don't take us seriously and then it's our fault. Like we mean it. You were warned. Why are you shocked? Yeah, seriously. It's like that's the Price Pikachu meme when he listens to podcasts where they say, hey,
[00:01:07] we can't read and we're like, not really that smart either. Then it's shocked when they're stuttering through stories. Yeah, it's just wild to me. It's like, listen, my eyes read, my brain reads at a faster pace than what my mouth speaks.
[00:01:23] So my brain is like a paragraph ahead and my mouth is still... Exactly. Yeah. And sometimes I skip sections entirely. Anyway, moving on. I have been forgetting to address this before we get to the stories and all that. We have new intro music. Yay!
[00:01:41] Yeah, someone messaged me and they were like, hey, is your intro shorter? And I was like, I don't think so. Why? And then I was like, oh, wait a minute. Yeah, I've been... We switched music.
[00:01:50] It's now sounds like like the beginning of the Stranger Things music and then a little bit of a cumbia beat and then it's over. It's like three or five seconds long or something. And a friend of the podcast, former podcast host, I don't think they have their podcast
[00:02:05] going anymore. Chuy from Myths Behind Legends. That was his podcast, but he made it. So shout out. Thanks again. And yeah, I just wanted something cute and spooky. Love it. Yeah, I really like it. Anyway, let us know your thoughts if you want. I don't know. Whatever.
[00:02:24] Today is going to be a mess because I forgot to take my booster meds. I take... Because they last for like three hours. They're short acting. And so I take one like in the morning when I wake up and then around noon.
[00:02:36] And then I take like half a dose around like two or three at the latest. And I forgot. And I take nothing, though I should. Yeah. It's always a mess over here. It's fine. And that's OK. We embrace it, you know, as we've been saying.
[00:02:52] Today we are talking about exorcisms. I don't know why I sounded so happy because they're horrible. Yes. Woo! Exorcisms. Although I will say nothing will be scarier to me than our episode when we did the exorcism in Tijuana. That shit was terrifying. Which one was that one?
[00:03:15] It was a while back. Can't remember. Because we did that episode and then the next one was the one of like exorcisms in real life that are actually crimes and they were terrible and depressing. It was the one before that.
[00:03:29] You say that like that's going to jog my memory. It's true. Look, I forget everything except all these stories because these are like these are my obsession. This is my hyper fixation that has lasted three years. And so I remember most of these things and nothing else.
[00:03:48] I love them. But at the same time, I forget everything. So when I like if I go back and listen to it, I'd be like, oh, my God, the new story. Have we covered? Oh, that's why you never know what we covered.
[00:04:00] I'm like, have we talked about this? And you're like, I don't know. Every time I ask in the group chat and you're like, I think maybe. Yeah, right. Understandable, though. Yeah, totally get it. The only reason I remember it's because I'm obsessed. All right.
[00:04:15] Well, before we get to our exorcism stories, a listener story. And if you have a story that you want us to read on the podcast, email it to us. SpookyTales at gmail dot com. You can DM me on Instagram. You can submit it on our Discord.
[00:04:28] There's a channel that specifically says share your scary stories. I can't talk. Share your scary stories and shout out to our listener that has sent a couple on there already or more than a couple. It's a great spot to share it because it's easy to find.
[00:04:44] Or you can call our spooky hotline. That number is in the show notes because I forgot it and I didn't write it down. But yeah, lots of options. So here's this story. OK, this is a true story. It happened to my Tia, my Tia and her dad.
[00:05:00] They were at the river catching fish while her dad was fishing. She kept on hearing an owl hooting. She got annoyed at the sound and threw dirt and rocks at the owl. The owl flew away and my Tia thought it wouldn't come back.
[00:05:16] My Tia and her dad left the river and the next day my Tia was in absolute pain until she looked at her bed. She was bleeding nonstop. Her parents took my Tia to the hospital and when they got there, nurses and doctors checked
[00:05:30] my Tia out, but they didn't know what was causing the bleeding. She was hospitalized for a month. After a month she stopped bleeding and she was allowed to go home. And she just went about her day. She was back to normal.
[00:05:44] She remembered that all this happened after she was throwing rocks and dirt to the owl And she realized it was a lechuza, like a witch owl, not a normal owl. Eww, that's creepy.
[00:05:57] Yeah, I will add that I love lechuza stories, but I don't condone violence toward owls just because you think it's a witch owl. Mm-hmm, same. Because that happens. Yeah, and the only owl that freaks me out is the barn owl. I don't know why.
[00:06:12] I mean, they're creepy looking, but they're also kind of cute. I'm not gonna lie. I feel like they stare into your soul more than other owls. I mean, they've got piercing black eyes and I think they're bigger, no? I don't know. They seem bigger to me.
[00:06:26] I have no idea. Like the other owls, there's some around here where I live because it's like a few... I still live in a city, but it's like you drive three minutes down the block and you're in the boonies, right? Well, the Central Valley is weird.
[00:06:44] It's like a city and then, yeah, like you said, you'll drive a little bit and then bam, you're in farm town. It's so weird. So we get a lot of hogs and predator birds, like owls and stuff because there's a lot of what's it called?
[00:06:55] Like farmland and they look for... I don't know. Stuff. Stuff, yeah. Like other little critters. And the ones around here, I don't mind. I think they're just brown owls or whatever. I don't know the species.
[00:07:12] But there's something about like barn owls that I don't see those around here that just freaked me out, like more so than other owls. Because I think like the owls that everybody draws, I think those are so cute.
[00:07:26] And then you have barn owls and I'm like, it looks like you're staring into my soul. Stop that. And they're the ones that are associated with a bunch of weird supernatural things. Yeah. I don't know. It creeped me out.
[00:07:43] So our first story is the story of a mass exorcism. It took place in Panama in 2020, January 2020. Too recent for my liking. This mass exorcism was executed by the cult, The New Light of God. According to investigators, the cult was new to the...
[00:08:00] And it's always like they target these certain areas. I hate it. All right. The cult was new to the indigenous area of El Terron and had only been in the region for about three months before police began to uncover the deadly exorcisms performed by the cult.
[00:08:15] At first, no one suspected that the group was doing anything wrong or posing a threat to the community because they mostly kept to themselves, like seemingly. This all changed though, because the cult allegedly abducted a woman and her eight children. Yeah, like that took a sharp turn.
[00:08:35] I don't know. According to one farmer, Josue Gonzalez said that cult members kidnapped his wife when she was five to six months pregnant and their eight children. So the pregnant wife and his eight kids on a Monday while he was out working in the rice fields.
[00:08:53] This all happened after one of the cult's preachers said that they had a revelation from God during a trip. When he returned from his trip, he told the group that God told him everyone in the area had to repent for their sins or die.
[00:09:08] Diomedes Blanco, a community member, helped police with the rescue. He said that two of the cult members had confessed to him what they had been doing and they told him God declared the cult members to be prophets. All of them? Really? Like suspicious. Yeah. Sorry.
[00:09:28] There's like supposed to be one prophet. No, not a bunch. Yes. So. We know that many religious people are not good with reading the original book or anything having to do with their actual religion. So check that. Yeah, yeah.
[00:09:44] And they love to twist all this into something horrible for more power for their like nefarious. I don't know. Pleasures. I'm sure some of these people. I feel like it's like a great way for them to exert power over other people. Yeah. I don't know, like power trips.
[00:10:05] Yeah. Gross. Yeah. So these cult members told this guy they told Diomedes that the prophets had told the cult that in this community no one believes in God and it was the cult's job to rid the region of demons.
[00:10:23] So everyone that was outside of the group had to be freed from said demons. Right. And so to make this to happen, they were kidnapping the locals and making. Yeah. And then making them repent for their sins by any means necessary.
[00:10:38] And so they were performing these quote unquote rituals and exorcisms. But like these are never actual the actual ritual of exorcism. They don't follow these steps. Right. So their version of exorcisms, they beat people like the pregnant mother and the eight children that were kidnapped.
[00:10:59] They beat all of them and then they used Bibles and machetes to torture them. What the hell? I hate it. The farmer, Josue Gonzalez told news that he was able to rescue two of his children and then another son of his escaped.
[00:11:17] Once he was able to free two of his kids, he ran to authorities, but they were hours away from El Terron. And when he went to them, they didn't respond. They did nothing. Finally, a week after he did this help arrived, but it was too late.
[00:11:36] They were able to rescue 14 people who had been kidnapped, but a mile away from their like little compound or commune, whatever you want to call it. Police sadly discovered the bodies of Josue Gonzalez's wife, five other children and a neighbor. I guess they also took a neighbor.
[00:11:54] And it was like a fresh grave. Wow. If they had listened to him sooner, those people would be alive. Twenty other victims were also found and they had attempted to burn these bodies to like maybe not identify them.
[00:12:09] When they raided the cult's building, they found a naked woman, knives, machetes and a sacrificed goat. What the hell? Which actually sounds like what people think satanic rituals are. So that's suspicious. Side eye. Yes. Among the people that were arrested, like the quote unquote prophets or preachers, these
[00:12:34] people included Josue Gonzalez's father and a lot of his brothers. What the fuck is up with crazy ass families? Seriously? Oh my God. It just gets worse. Locals didn't think that this was like a religious group doing good.
[00:12:55] You know, they thought the cult themselves were satanic and they demanded that they leave the area. And there is one indigenous leader of the community. His name is Ricardo Miranda, and he was quoted saying, we demand the immediate eradication
[00:13:09] of this satanic sect, which violates all the practices of spirituality and coexistence in the holy scriptures. But like, why? I hope that they're not there anymore. And like, why would they still be there? They should all have been arrested. Yeah.
[00:13:23] And why would do they even need to evacuate? They should have like, as you said, they should have all been arrested. Yeah. So I don't know. Hopefully they're not there anymore because wow. It's crazy. Horrible. People suck. They do. Hashtag not all people. 99.99%. But.
[00:13:40] Okay, so this is the tragic story of Vilma Trujillo. And this incident happened back in February of 2017. Oh, that's also pretty recent. I don't like it. Vilma Trujillo lived in the mining town of Rosita, which is 300 miles northeast of Managua in Nicaragua.
[00:14:14] Oh, why does that sound familiar to me? Oh, oh my god. Why do I remember this? No, it was a Duende story. Oh, yeah. From the episode I did with Carmen on Duendes. That's what it was. Yeah. But I was like, I remember these specific words. Managua, Nicaragua.
[00:14:32] It's a mouthful. I was like, oh, I hope I don't mess this up. I'll never forget trying to read those words. Okay, now, Reynaldo Peralta Rodriguez, the husband of Vilma Trujillo said a week before the incident, evangelical pastor, 23 year old Juan Gregorio Rocha Romero went to their
[00:14:54] house and she was taken into the Assemblies of God, an evangelical church. It's always those churches too. Mm hmm. Like, don't get me wrong, like everybody is like suspish, but there's something about evangelical churches that I'm like, mm hmm. Like super suspicious.
[00:15:15] Like, like wide eyed side eye, if that makes sense. Yeah, like the extra side eye. What is it? Ojo lateral bombástico. Yeah. Members of the church thought she was possessed after allegedly attacking people with a machete.
[00:15:39] A week later, Romero and four of his followers, two of which were his siblings, began an exorcism on Vilma Trujillo. During the exorcism, she was stripped naked, bound and thrown into a fire. What? Nine hours later, Vilma's teen sister found her in a ravine. Oh my God.
[00:16:09] It gets crazy. At the time she was found, she was alive. She suffered burns on 80% of her body, including damages to her organs. She was immediately taken to the hospital. Romero said that God gave him a revelation. It's always a goddamn revelation.
[00:16:28] Yeah, it's always a revelation and a group of fucking family members. That a group of brothers. Yeah, it never fails. I forget that evangelicals call themselves like hermanos. But were these actual siblings? No.
[00:16:44] Well, two of Romero's siblings were there, but he means brothers as in members of the church. Because I have family. Oh, okay. I'm saying that it's usually... Yeah, but that too. But they call each other, they're like a group of brothers, but they call them hermanos in
[00:16:59] that church. They call each other brother or sister. Yes. And then on top of that, it's literal family members doing these exorcisms together. Yeah. Yeah. And that this group should take Vilma and tie her up near the fire so the demon could
[00:17:15] leave her body and go into the fire. But God told him to start a fire as this is where the demon would go. Romero denies throwing her in and says that she suspended herself and fell in as the demon was leaving her body. Oh my God.
[00:17:33] He says that they were praying and didn't notice when she caught fire. Investigators said he had ordered his followers to make a bonfire on the church patio. Andromedo's accomplices threw her in the fire, though his four followers maintained that they were innocent and she threw herself in.
[00:17:54] As if. Mm-hmm. No one in their right mind. Like no one. No one. And no one in their wrong mind either. Well... Just no one. Just no one. Yeah. They claimed she was an adulterer and that's why God punished her and had her possessed.
[00:18:10] Though her husband says she was never possessed and that she may have been sexually assaulted. Yeah, so this adultery they're talking about? Her husband says it wasn't even adultery that she was assaulted. And after a week in the hospital, Virma died of her injuries.
[00:18:31] She was a wife and a mother of two. Her husband said it was unforgivable what they did as they took the mother of his children. Andromedo and his followers were charged with a maximum of 30 years for Romero.
[00:18:43] I couldn't find the charges for the other, like his followers, but he was charged to the full extent of the law there. Good, yeah. Which is 30 years. None of them reacted to the sentences that they were given.
[00:18:58] Many activists rallied against Romero and the church calling it femicide and misogyny. Yes, yes. I was gonna say that, but they said it for me. And because she was assaulted, wasn't even her fault. And she was blamed for adultery.
[00:19:16] And her husband was like, no, no, no, she never cheated on me. And then these men took it upon themselves to punish her. And she was dealing with the mental health crisis and they murdered her.
[00:19:31] The church, the assemblies of God are not only distancing themselves from Romero, but also denying that he was ever a leader at their church. Typical. And that is the story. And I included pictures of her. Oh my gosh, poor woman. I don't understand why they did this.
[00:19:52] Oh, that picture of her in red. She's like, posing, I look good. Wow. It really is. Okay, well, I'm just sad now. Yeah, a lot of exorcisms lead to true crime. Which is wild. I mean, just like our whole episode on this.
[00:20:16] And I found so many from around the world. There was one from in Germany, where I can't remember, but I think five people were charged with doing an exorcism in a hotel room. I would say that almost every single time, it's men performing quote unquote exorcisms
[00:20:41] in the name of God towards women or children. Except in the case of like that one in Texas, where it was like a woman cult leader, which is like very rare. Yes. But yeah, we do have a whole episode on these horrible exorcisms that are not exorcisms.
[00:20:57] They're just murders disguised as quote unquote exorcisms. Not even disguised, but like murdering someone and then calling it like an act of God or whatever. Or an accident because the demon killed them or something. I don't know, some stupid shit. Yeah, yeah.
[00:21:14] And it's like, stop doing these if you think someone needs help. And I mean, I guess I mean, some countries, they don't have the resources, but like, I don't know. Stop performing exorcisms. Yes. Okay, my next one is actually you know what?

[00:22:50] So thank you for doing that. Okay, so this is El Caso de Pascuala Garcia, the case of Pascuala Garcia. So it was October 1953 in a small town in Mexico, San HipĂłlito Penitente and this is in Guerrero, Guerrero, Mexico.
[00:23:11] And so stories of a troubled girl, Pascuala Garcia were heard and spread and word spread that the family was seeking the help of the church and a priest in Guanajuato got word.
[00:23:25] He traveled to the little town in Guerrero and he spoke with the family as well as locals, neighbors, friends and he learned that this girl, La Pascuala, suddenly had superhuman strength. She could speak in Latin, Greek and a local indigenous language that was almost lost to history.
[00:23:46] Like even almost no one spoke this language anymore. And she was 15, the youngest of eight siblings. There was no reason or explanation as to why she would be able to speak these languages like she couldn't before. She didn't learn them in school. Nobody taught her this.
[00:24:04] She wasn't like an avid reader and it's not like you had like the internet or Duolingo to learn like Greek, right? So yeah, there was no explanation. People were afraid. Pascuala had even predicted several deaths and these were all like mysterious deaths.
[00:24:23] So did she predict them or did she kill them? That's my question. I don't know. It's like, I'm just going to tell you about who's on my list right now. Yeah, right. It's actually her list.
[00:24:33] On top of her creepy predictions, she had also been heard by several people changing the tone of her voice. So instead of sounding like a 15 year old girl, she suddenly had like a much deeper raspy voice, like, I don't know, an evil man or something.
[00:24:53] Or I don't know, a demon. A voice that she shouldn't have been able to like have or create whatever. Admit? I don't know. Yeah, I get you. You know, you know what I'm saying. When Padre Benigno Gonzalez heard all this, he knew what this was.
[00:25:10] He said, this is demonic possession. He had studied demonology and he requested permission from the Vatican to perform an exorcism. But it was 1953. Somehow for some reason, the answer was taking too long. And you know, they might even say no.
[00:25:28] And he was seeing Pascuala worsen every single day that went by. So he decided that he would perform this ritual with or without permission. He didn't have any permission, actually. So he began the ritual the last week of October.
[00:25:45] And the first time that he did it, nothing changed. And so he just they kept doing this every night on this week of October. And she was just deteriorating like day by day.
[00:25:57] And on the night of October 31st, Padre Benigno began the ritual of exorcism again, like he had the whole past week, hoping that it would help the girl. This time, though, it turned out much worse. La Pascuala, she broke free from her restraints.
[00:26:16] She then attacked the photographer and her father. And the attack was so horrible that they did not make it. They had injuries that caused their deaths. Padre Benigno was gravely injured, and he laid on the ground as he watched Pascuala run into the forest. What the hell?
[00:26:36] Later, yes, she escaped. Later that night, Padre Benigno Gonzalez was found outside of the house, which had somehow caught fire. Nobody knows how, but it was on fire. He did recover from his injuries, but he retired from religion altogether.
[00:26:53] And the remaining Garcia family members relocated to Ciudad Mexico. Nobody spoke of this after this night. They were scared, so nobody said anything. And it wasn't until recently that Padre Benigno passed away and he left his belongings behind
[00:27:10] like somewhere for people to just like read like, hey, here's my stuff. Read this journal here. And that's when they found out this case because he documented everything. And as for Pascuala, she was never seen again, though many swear to see her roaming in the
[00:27:26] forest to this day. Eww, I'm not- no. Yeah. Also, when I found this story, it was presented like in a Twitter thread and it's not fucking real. Ugh, but good because the pictures though. I was like- The pictures are creepy. I'll be posting them.
[00:27:44] Yeah, they are AI generated pictures and it is a fictitious story, but I thought it was fun. It is fun, but holy shit, the pictures I was like, oh, that's disturbing. Yeah, I was a little scared looking through them and reading the story.
[00:27:58] And then I got to the end and they're like, this actually is not a real story. And I was like, oh, I've been fooled. Let me tell you that the Twitter thread doesn't say it's not a real story.
[00:28:10] And then people post about this on TikTok like it actually happened, which obviously like all these stories, these urban legends, paranormal stories, like people can say, oh, this is fake but no, to someone it's real, to someone it happened, right? Not this.
[00:28:23] This is like literally someone made it up. It's a fictitious story. But people will post about it on TikTok or like Twitter, like it's real and further fool everyone like me. It was a good story though.
[00:28:37] But I'm also kind of glad because the pictures that were posted were not fun. Especially when I opened this thread when you sent it. And I was like, why am I reading this right now? It's like 3 in the morning and you're like, oh my God.
[00:28:51] Yeet, meet the phone. Damn, I should have picked another story. I didn't realize it was gonna be so short. Yeah, the stories today were short. A lot of them ended in sadness. Well, yeah, the first two were terrible.
[00:29:07] This last one is just fun and creepy and not real. I was about to go in on the priest though because it clearly state, especially like, I've actually I would think that the priest is supposed to be Catholic in the story, right? Doesn't he follow his own religion?
[00:29:26] Like only the cardinals are allowed to give you the right to do a possession. The right to do an exorcism? Yeah, yeah, an exorcism. The right to possess, what? Interesting.
[00:29:41] You know, because like it is said like in the Catholic religion that if you don't get the right from or like, yeah, from the cardinal, it has no power. Oh.
[00:29:57] And if you still do it anyways, like it gets from like it's already bad to a lot fucking worse. Because you're not supposed to do it. It goes against like, you know, I guess the rules are the ritual that goes against it.
[00:30:14] And it's supposed to give the demon more power. Like you're like you're you got orders from your religion from, you know, that's supposed to be God's word, right? And you're even if you're trying to do good, you're technically going against his word. And then doing worse. Yeah, yeah.
[00:30:33] So that's what I was like. Wow. Yeah, like Padre Benigno. Side eye. You knew better. Yeah. You knew better. Has it always been that way, though? Because I know at some point. I think it's always been that way since the church was.
[00:30:49] I think the only other person who can give you the right right away is the Pope because I know the Pope can do an exorcism whenever the fuck he wants. And he's like, today sounds like a good day for an exorcism. Let's do one. Yeah.
[00:31:05] Speaking of the Pope, those images where he was in that white puffy jacket, they're AI generated, but they were so funny. I was like, what's it called? I did say to him. Yeah. He's like, today is a good day to show off the drip to these demons. Yep.
[00:31:26] He's going to perform exorcisms in that outfit and rap like that. Oh, my God. The right. That shit was funny. No, but when there was another story we covered a while back now, it was a group of exorcisms in like during the Spanish Inquisition.
[00:31:48] And it might have been even like the first documented exorcism in Mexico. I don't I don't know like how that would work because, you know, it would take like three or six months to get a response. So I'm wondering because I don't think they spoke with the Vatican.
[00:32:03] I would think that the Vatican would just be like, OK, so we know communication is not going to be that great.
[00:32:09] You guys have the have the permission to do what you need to is what I would think like prior to leaving, because I would assume that they're like, hey, what if we encounter some shit and some shit goes down?
[00:32:22] I'm pretty, pretty sure they'd be like, do what you need to. OK. Right. Right. I would think. Yeah. But yes. But yeah, that's what I'm wondering when it changed. Maybe when like the Morse code thing was invented, they're like, you have to ask for permission now.
[00:32:37] Morse code to the Vatican. Mm hmm. OK. Because now you actually like if you're part of the Catholic Church, you need permission. You cannot do it on your own. And from what I know, they like take really extensive like steps like first to rule out anything.
[00:32:57] They'll rule out any known medical thing. And once like everything's ruled out that we know so far medically and it's still like, hey, you don't got a virus. You don't have a brain eating bacteria.
[00:33:10] You don't have you weren't born with like this or you don't have a mental illness or something cognitively wrong. And then, you know, once every single little thing is checked off, then they're like, OK, exorcism. But they're really meticulous now. Like they're really like, hey.
[00:33:28] Yeah. Like the Catholic Church themselves. But you can find like you can go online and Google like how to get an exorcism and you'll get like pop ups like, oh, this person performs them for this much money. Like you can order them.
[00:33:40] I'm like if somebody's charging you a red flag. Yeah. Yeah. And I want to say in Mexico and most of Latin America, like the performance of exorcisms by these type of services that you pay, they're like on the rise. Oh, yeah.
[00:33:55] They have been on the rise for a while. I don't know if the United States I mean, I would imagine I mean, Mexico itself. I think this was the Catholic Church, though. They performed an exorcism on the whole country. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I remember that one.
[00:34:07] The exorcism of Mexico or whatever. Yes. Because they were like, shit's getting out of hand. Let's do a worldwide exorcism or like, yeah, a countrywide exorcism. But I think they asked, I think the Vatican or something. Yeah, that was the Catholic Church and it was official.
[00:34:24] Yeah, and it was official. But like they asked Catholics, I think around the world to pray at this time. Yeah. To give them power. And guess what? It did nothing. You need another one. It's like literally like stop the femicides. Give them like a few more like 10.
[00:34:42] Include the United States in there because there's some shit going on in here. Like the Vatican needs to like do. Actually, that reminds me here in Portland. They recently and this is like going to come out a week after we recorded this.
[00:34:57] It's going to be late information because right now it's June 5th. But this isn't going to come out. This is next next week's episode. But there has been news of like six women that were murdered all like 22 to 26 at most in Portland.
[00:35:12] And then one was from like Longview, but all in this area, though, I think the official word like by the police department is that there's no evidence that these murders are connected. They just happen to all be found around the same time.
[00:35:28] And some of these people didn't know each other. I'm like, that's evidence because I know there's a there's a serial killer in Texas right now. I believe I heard about that. And then a serial killer in Chicago. Oh, I haven't heard about that.
[00:35:43] Like, you know, I don't understand. They haven't caught that person. And a lot of people have said that it's like I think they were like killing. I want to say gay men. I can't be 100 percent sure. Because I only like briefly what's it called?
[00:35:56] But yeah, that's in Texas is women. Right. And they're killing women. Yes, yes. Yeah. But the one in like Chicago or whatever, a lot of like people who go to like gay bars and stuff and you know. Oh, I did hear about this.
[00:36:10] Like there's like this dude that always tries to like be like, hey, I'll give you a free ride. And then people were coming at like they told I guess like they're telling people the evidence. But like, I don't know. I don't know. It's all suspicious. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:36:28] I don't know. It's scary. It's a scary world. I don't know how in this day and age you even could be a serial killer in the United States because we live in a like a state of surveillance. Like there's cameras everywhere.
[00:36:40] And if if there's no, you know, cameras like on the street just there, then there's or in stores, then people just like recording and taking pictures outside and just recording everything. Like we are constantly under. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:36:58] So I'm like, how do people even get away with anything on top of like you? Most people it's insanely difficult to live like off the grid. You need a phone. You need the Internet.
[00:37:07] You need like a paper trail, like, you know, like a not even paper trail anymore. Like everything's online. Like I just don't understand how crimes or someone can just like not be seen, you know? And obviously it happens, but I just don't get it.
[00:37:20] I don't get it either. Like it. I don't know because you are right. There's so many unsolved murders that still happen. I'm like, how? Yeah, I don't know. It makes it like I don't know.
[00:37:33] But then what is it like the police only don't really solve a lot of unsolved. No, they don't. It's like a very low percentage. Like I don't want to be wrong. So I'm not going to say a number, but I feel like it was less than 30 percent. Yeah.
[00:37:47] Yeah. And I feel like a lot of people are like, oh yeah, the police are on the case. I'm like, do you understand that they. Oh, am I supposed to feel better now? Like they don't even solve like a good chunk of their cases. Like, yeah. Yeah.
[00:38:01] They're not going to find it because they just suck. They can't even do the job. Yeah. Let's not forget that the people of L.A., the people of East L.A. were the ones who found Richard Ramirez. OK? Yeah.
[00:38:17] It wasn't that it's never the cops like they just. I don't know what the fuck they do. And I'm like, how do you have all these people incarcerated? But you guys can't even find a percentage of like cases that somehow
[00:38:30] you have all these people that, you know, did a crime. I'm like, that's suspicious. You can't even solve a fucking murder. No plus. I don't know. All those people incarcerated like side eye because like. Yep. Y'all can't even DNA test correctly. Yeah. Seriously.
[00:38:51] I'm going to say one more thing about this and I have forgotten. No, it's left me forever. On that note. Do you have any spooky recommendation? Actually, I do. My mom sent me over this podcast.
[00:39:06] Now, it's only for our Spanish listeners and they have so many like they have like people write in directly. So like it's a lot of stories that we've never heard before because like their fans, which I want to do.
[00:39:20] Like, I guess I would have to email them to make it appropriate. But like email them if I could like grab their stories and translate it into English and then say it, you know, on this podcast because
[00:39:33] they are also a podcast, but they are not again in English. It's only for Spanish speaking. True. I mean, I do it all the time with like Mano Peluda cases and Relatos de la noche. But I feel like La Mano Peluda is a little bit more like public,
[00:39:48] you know what I mean? Like on the radio, but I don't know. True. Okay. Well, what is this podcast? Oh, yeah. So hold on. I love people calling in telling their stories in Spanish. It just has a different feel to me. It's called the Podcast Extra Normal.
[00:40:06] Oh, okay. I'm very excited to listen. And they're really good and they have this amazing witch. Remember, I don't know if you saw the message, but this brujeria story. Was it a TikTok clip? No, no, no. No. I messaged, he's like, hey, I found this amazing like witchcraft
[00:40:23] story, the brujeria. Oh, I don't recall this. It's amazing. Yes. I'll send you the story. It's like a 10 minute listen. Okay. I found it on, I found them. Well, I should say my mom linked me to a link on the book face and it was so good.
[00:40:40] I was like, oh, and then like, they're like, like us. Like it's a, it's a, I forgot their names, but it's a guy and a girl and like the recording and like shit's happening in the background. They're like, oh my God. I'm so excited. But they're so good.
[00:40:55] And they also have a YouTube channel. Okay. I might've scrolled through the YouTube because all they watch on YouTube is the red laptop and like old man up and that. Yeah. I send it to you and this one is amazing.
[00:41:11] And I kind of want to reach out and be like, Hey, can I get your permission to translate this? Because it's like, you're right. That's the right thing to do. And you're better than me because I would have just done it.
[00:41:21] I mean, I will be giving them credit. So I don't know more listeners than us anyway. Yeah. Well, actually, I don't know how many, let me see. I don't know some of these, uh, yes. Yes. They do have like almost a hundred thousand subscribers. Yeah.
[00:41:35] We have like 200 subscribers on YouTube. Okay. No, because I don't upload. I'll send you the links to all their stuff. And I'm so excited. They're so good. And I love like when Mexicans like talk because they like their one Hello Funny with the shit that they say.
[00:41:54] And number two, I like the expression that they put in their voice because it's like, it makes it that much more dramatic. Yeah. Yeah. It's just, yeah. I feel like it's just better. Yeah. Definitely better storytelling than like me for sure. Oh, what was my spooky recommendation?
[00:42:14] I forgot the name of. Oh, yes. The podcast that I edit, it's called Two Girls, One Ghost. They had a guest, Lindsey Payne, and he does other like, he's a huge podcaster. I don't know if you ever listened to like Atlanta Monster.
[00:42:33] I've heard of it, but I've never listened. Yeah. Okay. He is the host of that. He creates like a bunch of podcasts, but he has a new podcast called High Strange and it's all UFO stories. Oh, I love that.
[00:42:43] And they're like a little more, you know, it's a more serious. It's definitely more serious. People are telling their stories. So yeah, that's a good one. That's one of my recommendations. And then there's one more because I kept forgetting to recommend it.
[00:42:54] And before I forget again, I'm just going to add on a spooky recommendation. It's called Otherworld. So there's another podcast that Carmen and I listen to. It's called Truanon. The only reason we discovered them is because they, when, what's her name? Galane, Galane, Galane Maxwell.
[00:43:12] When she was at court, they were there reporting every day of that she was at court being tried. They did an episode every single day on what happened in court. And because I was very interested in that case, I found them.
[00:43:27] And then I just kept listening to every single one of their episodes. They talk about like a bunch of random shit. I can't even, I can't even describe it. However, if you're, yeah, if you're interested in like, I don't know, conspiracy theory type stuff, but not like the
[00:43:41] hosts are not like super right winged, creepy, you know, type of people as, as, you know, conspiracy theory podcasts usually tend to lean towards like actual QAnon. They're not actual QAnon. Their podcast name is just true QAnon, but they have a frequent
[00:43:58] guest and he is the host of Otherworld. And so he just talks to people sharing their paranormal stories and it's good and it's creepy. And yeah, those are my two recommendations. I will give that a go. Yes, yes.
[00:44:15] And this just feels weird because this episode is so short. Well, we've gone to like 50 minutes, 50 minutes almost. What was I going to say? Oh, and the book, book club. The book. Yes, I did. I am reading more. It's it's going. I have finished a bit more. Yes.
[00:44:36] The book is The Haunting of Alejandra. And yes, we are still reading this. So you have time to join the book club and get, you know, the email or get an email on the discussion questions. We'll also post an Instagram. Yeah.
[00:44:50] Post on Instagram if anyone wants to leave their comment there. And yeah, it'll probably be another month before we actually record the episode on it. Yeah, it's been a crazy month for me, but really, I'm taking notes for.
[00:45:04] Oh, as you read, as I read, because I'm like, I'm going to forget all this shit. That makes sense. And number two, like. This book makes me like some of the characters piss me off so goddamn bad. This book makes me so mad. And it's also so triggering.
[00:45:23] It is like if you ever been in a terrible relationship with a piece of shit, dude. Or person, but I look at it from like her point of view. This is a very, very like. Hero, hero normative relationship in this book. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:45:43] And and it makes me so angry because I'm like, man, we'll talk about it more. But yeah, I mean, when we get to the episode, but man, yeah, I was mad. I was like, I don't have anyone to fight, but I wanted to fight someone that reminds me.
[00:45:59] I think it was like last last week now by the time it's out, Carmen and I were doing an Estudios Unknown episode about a high school walkout in Denver. Oh, yeah. At the end of it, I was like, man, I want to walk out from
[00:46:12] somewhere. And I'm like, I don't have anywhere to walk up. Reminds me of like when the cheating songs came out from Shakira and stuff. And I'm like, there's nobody cheating on me, but but I'm going to feel that I'm going to feel it. Yeah. Yeah. That song. Yes.
[00:46:30] What was the name of the song? I don't even remember. I don't know. It says bizarap. Yeah. My bad. Yeah. Yeah. You got to say it right. I'm going to be mad at my amazing partner. For no goddamn reason. Yeah. That's a good song.
[00:46:49] I'm going to go listen to it right now. OK, well, I guess this brings us to the end of the episode. Unless you have anything else to add? No. Oh, you know what? I will add on just because we're going on and on already.
[00:47:03] If anyone wants to join the Patreon, we read it's usually one episode a month, sometimes two. But we read creepy Reddit stories or just stories from the Internet. It's not like Latin American focus. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. But they're just stories from all over.
[00:47:19] We react to them. We expand a little bit. Yeah, it's a lot of fun. It gives us a chance to read other stories. So, yeah, go over to Patreon if you are interested in that. There's also stickers that I send out once in a while because
[00:47:33] I haven't done it in a while and I'm sorry to current patrons. My cricket broke and then and then my printer. I had to clean it and that is just I'm not going to do it because you have to like press like three buttons.
[00:47:46] And yeah, it's just a lot for me. But I did it. I actually did do it like two months later, which is why I haven't said anything now. But I did send out an exclusive key chain for the eight dollars here.
[00:47:59] This is the only way you can get the key chain is if you become an eight dollar. I think the name of the tier is like the one that you get when you join the tier.
[00:48:07] I think the name of the tier is like no mama is super serious. A spooky. Yeah. Yes. And so if you join that here, you will get a key chain. You can join pay and then cancel.
[00:48:18] You still, you know, get a don't like do a refund like pay once, you know. So like be a member of that tier for a month and you will get this key chain is the only way to get a key chain. It's exclusive to that tier.
[00:48:32] And then we do send out other stickers like artificial as because they are. Yeah. With the logo, those stickers are also exclusive to the three dollar tier and then just other little stickers like I sent one. I think it was like Valentine's Day.
[00:48:47] It was like a little heart like the candies, you know, those candy hearts that people get. And I just said it's spooky in the middle and they were so cute. They were so cute. Yeah. So stickers like that are exclusive to the three dollars here is an above.
[00:49:01] And then the one dollar tier, you'll get that shout out. And then that's all you get. And that three episodes actually. My bad. You get at three episodes. Everyone on patron gets at three episodes. So yeah, if any of that sounds interesting, you know, head on
[00:49:16] over there and join. I used to do movie night. So I used to do the I did like to I want to bring him back though. I just got to find some time. Yeah, life is so busy. You guys, I'm sorry. We're surviving.
[00:49:30] OK, but you know, like now that I'm a little more organized and I'm not like the completely like the this is fine meme where everything's on fire. That's me right now. Little fires now because like I have meds now.
[00:49:44] Life is good unless I run out and there's they're out of stock then it's going to be a mess again. So that's why I'm like I think I can start movie nights again. We'll see. OK, now that was everything. Yes. And stay spooky.
[00:49:59] We're going to be out in the forest in this little town in Guerrero. And stay spooky. We'll catch everyone next time. Bye bye. Spooky Tales is hosted by Christina and MJ, produced and edited by Christina. Everything is written and researched by Christina, MJ, and
